6. Drakensberg Traverse (South Africa)
This 40-mile hiking trail will take you through
the heart of Natal National Park in South
Africa. As you might expect, the views from
several areas around the trek are absolutely
incredible. However, youve got to be one hell
of a hiker to get to those places. For example,
theres one section of the trail that involves a
climb up a rock cliff thats roughly three
times the size of the famous El Capitan
Yosemite.

7. Mount Washington (New Hampshire)
Every year, tens of thousands of people make
their way to Mount Washington in beautiful
New Hampshire. They believe that theyre
going to get a signature New England
experience, failing to realize that this includes
experiencing New England weather, which can
be incredibly mercurial! Nowhere is this more
evident than on this hiking trail, which has
been said to experience some of the worlds
worst weather. Its the elements, and not the
trail, that ultimately claim the lives of ill-
prepared hikers.

8. Huayna Picchu (Peru)
Heres a trail that claims at least a couple of
lives every years part of the reason its
become known as the Hike of Death. Now,
when you first look at it, you might not think
much of it. It is, after all, an old Incan granite
staircase. However, the staircase totals 1,000
steps, many of which are crumbled and can
become slippery due to the weather. Making it
up is the easy part, though. Its getting back
down the steep incline that often proves too
much.

9. Maroon Bells South Ridge (Colorado)
Theres a lot about this trail that should strike
fear into the hearts of novice and expert
hikers alike. Of course, it might lull you into a
false sense of security. The beginning of the
trail takes you up approximately 11,000 feet,
and its actually fairly easy all things being
equal. However, theres still more to hike after
that! As you get higher, things get increasingly
more difficult, and those that havent gone in
prepared may find themselves paying with
their lives.

10. Angels Landing (Utah)
This hike is only about a half mile long. So,
youre saying to yourself, What could
possibly go wrong? Well, the thing to fear
about this trail isnt the trail itself, its the
number of other people who will be hiking it
at the same time you are. The trail itself is
incredibly thing, which means that traffic jams
are quite common. This can become a deadly
problem as you near the top, as more than a
few people have been accidently pushed off
the cliff-face by other careless hikers.
