The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke, on Thursday, administered the Oath of Allegiance to 2,279 corps members posted to the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members comprised 992 males and 1,287 females.

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, in an address, charged the corps members to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative of the scheme seriously.

Ambode was represented by Mr Oluseye Oladejo, the Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations.

He said that through skills acquisition, corps members could become beneficiaries of the start-up capital from the Lagos State Trust Fund.

According to him, the trust fund is a partnership arrangement between Lagos State Government and the NYSC.

“As you commence your national service year, I enjoin you to reflect on the successes the scheme has recorded in the sustenance of national unity, integration and economic development since its inception.

“You must pay special attention to this programme in order to secure for yourselves a post-service life of self-sufficiency and financial independence.

“You must make efforts to contribute to the successes recorded by the scheme in the state,’’ the governor said.

He also charged corps members to contribute their own quota to national development through selfless commitment, dedication and active participation in all activities during the service year.

Mr Mohammed Momoh, the State NYSC Coordinator, said the corps members were well behaved and had been responding to training since the camp opened on Jan. 16.

Momoh urged them to make productive use of their stay in camp and participate actively in all activities, as these would propel them to have a fulfilled service year.

“I urge you to read all NYSC publications that will be given to you during the orientation exercise.

“Read your orientation course guide and NYSC By-Law, which have been put together to enlighten you on all you need to know about the scheme and the pitfalls to avoid in order for you to have a successful service year. (NAN)
