The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out air raids on Boko Haram commanders at a terrorist camp at Tumbun Rego in northern Borno.
The air force in a statement on Thursday, September 1, said the attack on the Boko Haram camp was carried out on August 29, 2016.
It stated that intelligence report had it that some Boko Haram commanders, who survived an air assault on the night of 20 August 2016 , leading to the death of over 300 insurgents, had sustained serious injuries and were said to have relocated to the camp at Tumbun Rego for medical treatment.
Following the report, the air force trailed the suspected leaders of the sect which it described as are high value targets and successfully attacked the camp.
Though, the NAF is yet to ascertain the casualty figure, but the post-strike video clips shows that the degree of damage achieved was devastating as the buildings were engulfed by large fire the as seen in the video of the air operation.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has again declared that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau is dead.
However, Major General Lucky Irabor, Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, is the one announcing Shekau’s death this time.
Speaking during a tour of Adamawa state on Thursday, September 1, Major General Irabor insisted that Shekau is dead, Vanguard reports.
He said that the individual originally identified as Shekau has indeed been killed.
