Trying to move her hands, she felt something on her right arm. A bandage was wrap around her arm. She used her left hand to touch her head, she withdrew it the moment an excruciating pain flood through her head. She winced in pain. She wanted to remember how she got here. The room was painted white and she figured she was in a hospital. She lifts up her head a little not minding the pain that pressed on her neck region to her head. She seems to be alone as she struggles to sit up on the mattress. The white door which was adjacent to where she sits flung open and a lady on white walked in with three people. "Ah! She's finally awake." A lady among the three guests commented happily. The other woman hugged her immediately, Amanda looks at them confusingly. "Hi Amanda, am doctor Sheila Peters. Glad you are awake. Your family has been worried sick." Dr. Sheila spoke. "My family?." She asked wondering what the doctor meant. "Yes your family. Your aunt Ogechi and Aunt Philomena with your uncle Olisa." She pointed at the three people who were looking and smiling at her. "I think there is a mistake here. I don't have a family." Amanda said to the surprise of her aunties and her uncle. "Amanda it's me. Mama Soludo. Don't you remember me?." Mama Soludo asked walking closer to her. "Should I?." She asked un perturbed about it. "Doc what's happening to her? Why can't she remember us?." Uncle Olisa spoke out. "I don't know, I think she has a memory loss. I did told you guys that the heavy impact on her head may cause a little damage. Now I think she may have amnesia." She informed looking at them. "Wait, what?" Amanda asked confusion written on her face. "Amanda relax, we'll be right back. Can I speak with the three of you in my office?" She turns to Uncle Olisa as she exited the ward room. Mama Soludo followed immediately after Mans Tobenna stepped out then uncle Olisa staring close at Amanda shook his head a little and followed soon after. Arriving at Dr. Sheila's office, mama Soludo and mama Tobenna sat on the visitors chair while Uncle Olisa took the arm chair. "Doctor what's happening to her?." Mama Soludo asked quickly. "Well I called the three of you out of there because what I want to discuss with you are very important. She is suffering from amnesic syndrome otherwise known as amnesia or in simple term. Memory loss." She dropped the bombshell. "Oh my!" Mama Tobenna exclaimed fearfully. "So what are we going to do now? Is it permanent?" Uncle Olisa spoke out, worried. "No I don't think so. You see, she had many blows to her head and it affected the hippocampus of her brain cell where it stores information. Well in my guess she is suffering from retrograde amnesia." She commented adjusting her eye glass. "Is that bad?" Uncle Olisa asked her. "No, you see Retrograde amnesia is the inability to recall memories before onset of amnesia. One may be able to encode new memories after the incident. Retrograde is usually caused by head trauma or brain damage to parts of the brain besides the hippocampus. The hippocampus is responsible for encoding new memory. Episodic memory is more likely to be affected than semantic memory . The damage is usually caused by head trauma, cerebrovascular accident, stroke, tumor, hypoxia , encephalitis, or chronic alcoholism . People suffering from retrograde amnesia are more likely to remember general knowledge rather than specifics. Recent memories are less likely to be recovered, but older memories will be easier to recall due to strengthening over time. Retrograde amnesia is usually temporary and can be treated by exposing them to memories from the loss." She informs and sighs of hope is heard in the room. "So you mean if she gets to know the things that she doesn't remember again, she will get back her memory in time?" Uncle Olisa questioned. "Yes, it will help alot." Dr. Sheila said nodding her head. "Thank God, thank you Dr. Sheila. Thank you very much." He said as he extended his hand for an handshake which she took in hers. "So is she free to go home with us?." Mama Soludo asked hopefully. "No, she has to stay with us at least three days so I can put an eye on her." She commented as she stand up. "That's alright Doctor, we really appreciate what you have done for us." He commented. A nurse commented tirelessly as she dashed into the doctor's office, panting hard. It seems she was running. "What do you mean you can't find her?." Dr. Sheila commented adjusting her eye glass. "I mean she is not in her ward." She spoke again catching her breath. "You must be joking, I thought she was dosed." Dr. Sheila commented as she stood up immediately. "Yes she was but right now, she is not there anymore." The nurse said. Dr. Sheila was initially confused at that point of time. She didn't know what to do if it is true. She decided to check for her herself. She took her stethoscope and hung it round her neck before she walked out of her office hastily. Not wasting time, she got there and saw that the bandages have been removed and the drip have been unplugged and placed on the mattress. "Oh my word!" She exclaimed shockingly as she placed her hand in pocket and couldn't find her purse inside. ** Meanwhile... Amanda walks around not knowing where to go, she didn't feel safe at the hospital as she felt she was being watched every night. She knew it wasn't right to disappear from the hospital but right now, it doesn't matter. She wished she had a phone to contact Maureen or Victoria. She wandered what she was doing in her village, she remembered the place but had forgotten her family. How she ended up in a hospital baffled her, decided to see if she could find an eatery to eat so she could replenish her strength. Then she remember she was still in the hospital's gown. Taking out the purse she had stolen from Dr. Sheila when she wanted to inject earlier, she checked inside and saw sixteen thousand inside. She became glad again and decided to look for a boutique where she could buy new cloth. People looking at her strangely but she didn't care, she just walked around for some time till she saw a boutique shop nearby, she quickly entered and bought a jean trouser and a top with a face cap and a pair of sneakers which cost her about ten thousand naira, left with six thousand naira, she decided to locate an eatery as her stomach is rumbling due to the hunger she was experiencing. *** "Ma'am am here for the bill." The waitress diligently said. "How much?" Amanda asked her after finishing a plate of jollof rice. "It's two thousand naira ma." She replied. Amanda took out two thousand, wanting to handed to the waitress, she was stopped midway. "Don't worry I'll settle the bill." She said someone say. "You didn't want anyone to know your family background so how did my father knew you were here then?." She spit out almost angry. "I told him because at that time, he was a father to me." She looked away. She knew Maureen very well, staring at her would make matters worst. "Okay, a year later. When I asked you about it. You said the same thing." She was trying to keep her temper in check. "Yea because I wasn't sure if I should have told you then. Am sorry." She commented again. "Okay, fine. I totally understand why you didn't tell me." She said as she sat back on the bed with Amanda to her surprise, she kissed her passionately and they both started unbuttoning their clothes. "Wait wait. I'll should take a shower first." Amanda said halfway. "We'll do that together." Maureen replied as they resumed kissing.

Jidenna commented worriedly, the news of Amanda had reached him the day he wanted to visit her, now seated with Victor and Favour in Victor's shop where he sells Snacks and provisions ranging from groundnut oil and and fish, the business belonged to his late mother who he took since he was a graduate of unilag, he seared for job close to five months when he was in Lagos, he came back to the village two years ago where he reopened the business him and his only younger sister, Jane is taking care of. But Jane went to delta state to write her jamb where she stays with a friend leaving only him to run the business. At times Favour and Jidenna comes by to assist him in attending to customers. Now is one of those when Jidenna thought to tell his friends about what he heard yesterday when going to the hospital. Favour is Abel's younger sister who leads a group of cultist round the village which Pius is a member and also the second in command when Abel isn't a round. At the time of Amanda's harassment, Abel had gone to Onitsha accompanied by Olanre, the youngest in the sweet boys gang which they call themselves when in their usual meetings. Abel is known to be friendly but can be deadly when trampled on, he doesn't like someone talking shit about him or his sister, the only person he could die for, literally. Favour was what he lived for and with similar stories to Victor, he is a graduate also from the university of port Harcourt, he couldn't get a job for two years, he came back to his poor mother and sister when he became notorious, only to those who crossed him. She asked then flashes of memories flood through her brain as blurry images blasted immediately. She held her head quickly, an old woman's face came to her head once more followed by a little boy's name, she couldn't see his face clearly but knew somehow they're related, visions of her getting attacked by two men came into mind, Maureen scared of what's happening quickly ran and hold her. "Are you alright baby?." She asked confused about what to do. Amanda trying to remember everything but blurred images filled her head, she couldn't place it anymore. "Where's my phone?." She suddenly asked. "We were on our way to the location before we saw you at the eatery." She comment, looking at her as she helped on her feet. "Get dress, we're going to the location now." She ordered taking out a black bralette and a black jacket after wearing a white tank top with a black penciled denim jean. "Thanks for the clothes you got for me dearie". She commented smiling for a bit. Maureen who was changing into a sea blue T-shirt and a white jean shorts, she brought out a Barretta 9 hand gun from the side zip of her bag. She checked out the capacity of it then puts it behind her as her shirt falls over it. "Should we call Taofeeq?." Maureen asked as she got ready. "No, let's handle it ourselves." She stepped out followed soon by Maureen. "So where to?." She asked after igniting the engine. "My phone, it trigger a dark memory when you mentioned it earlier. Looking at the GPS, Maureen took a right turn and sped up, she didn't tell her father that she was coming for Amanda. She look over to Amanda and watches her admired the trees and bushes for a while then gave a short giggle. Amanda looks back at her and smiled. Looking around again, the road was really familiar, she shrieks again as blurry images blasted in her brain once more. Maureen hit the brakes at once. "What's wrong Amanda?." She became disturbed. Amanda stepped out of the car with her hand on her head, she kneels down. She was right in the scene where she was attacked and almost raped and used. Her memory was painfully unclear as the images are still blurred. An image of her struggling in the sandy ground flashed through her mind and she gave a short gasp before regaining her strength once more. She knew something is missing in her life but she couldn't place it. "Am fine" she finally got up, wipe her knee clean and stood up. "Are you sure?." Maureen found herself asking but Amanda waved it off. "Am really fine, just a little headache." She lied. "Headache and you behaved in such a way." She pressed on. "Yes , no need to worry your pretty little headache." She reentered the SUV folded her hands waiting for Maureen to start the car.

"Here, the location is pointing at this direction and the signal is strong." Maureen answered her she came out of the van, Amanda did same, as soon as she stepped foot on the ground, the pain came again and faces pushed into her head once more and she held the car door for support when her legs became wobbly. "Aunty!." A boy's voice is heard loudly from behind. It was Soludo, he was about to take a leak when he saw Amanda, he ran quickly to her, forgetting what he came out to do at that moment. He jumped on her body, she just stared at him strangely. "Aunty, it's me Soludo, or have you forgotten about me?." He said sadly, obviously Uncle Olisa had told the children of what had happened. When she heard his name, his face came to her clear this time, she remembered everything now as she knelt down holding her head, Soludo was afraid, he didn't know what to do, he tried to touch her but Maureen held him back. Her memory came back, and she remembered everything from when she first came to the village and why she had came, her grandma who us the first person she spoke with first, the children she got to know, her uncles and aunties then the incident that happened six days back. "Oh God, my head hurts!" She finally said getting up. "What happened?." Maureen asked. "I remembered everything, my family. I remembered my family Maureen." She spoke out. Soludo hugs her again, tears pouring out of his eyes. "I thought you have left us oo, mama has been crying since that day, she has been very worried. Every night, she put you in her prayers, every morning, you're the first thing that comes to her mind. She has been restless." He ran out into their building and soon, the whole family came out, shock written on their faces. "My grand daughter has come back to me oo." Mama shouted rejoicing as she uses her walking stick to hug her. "My God has brought you back." She spoke out as she hugs her. "Yes mama" she answered. Soon, everyone began hugging her except the men who just smiled at her. There, Jidenna and his friends entered the compound, surprised at first, Jidenna cleaned his eyes. "That's her." He whispers to Victor and Favour. "She's beautiful." Victor whispers back to him. "Hello Amanda." He greeted when he got close. "Hi Jidenna," she answered. "It seems, you got back your memory. Welcome back." He said then extended his hand for an handshake but she shift his away and hugged him to the surprise of everyone there, including Maureen. "I wasn't expecting this." He smiled as her hands held him tight. "You're the reason am alive, so expect more of this." She said to his ears. "I can't thank you enough Jidenna, am forever grateful." She added. "Am touched, just glad that you're fine." "I don't normally do this you know but I have to." She smiled and kissed his cheek. Then left him, he looked at Victor and Favour who just smiled at him. "Amanda who is your friend?." Uncle Olisa asked her when she had finished talking to Jidenna. "She's a very close friend of mine." She said, "her name's Maureen." She introduced. "Welcome to the family my daughter." Mama said. "Thank you Mama." She said. "You're welcome. Can we all go inside?." Grandma said as she start heading into the compound. "You can join us Jidenna, you and your friends." Amanda added as she followed mama behind. Soon everyone was inside the living room of Amanda. *** "Actually mama, we got him arrested after that day." Uncle Olisa said signalling to Jidenna. "That suits him. Pius is a menace to this community and am glad he is behind bars." Mama Tobenna commented. "Yes oo, me too, imagine hurting my two sons. God will never forgive that boy." Mama Soludo jumped in. "So Maureen, what can you tell us about yourself?." Mama Soludo added. "Well, aunty am a business woman." She replied sipping the bottle of malt offered to her. "Really? That's nice." Uncle Ebube, Eze's father commented. He had traveled out of the village with Eze that week when Amanda came, after assisting in repainting the house. He came back two days ago and heard what happened. "By the way, Jidenna, my family hasn't appreciate you enough for what you did. Olisa go get that thing for my son here." Olisa go get that thing for my son here." Mama spoke out making the rest of the family including Jidenna wonder what she meant. Soon uncle brought out a wad of money 500 notes. "Here, on behalf of my family we give you this fifty thousand naira." He offered it to Jidenna who became surprised, he looked at mama who nodded for him to accept it. He refuses it, "Seriously, I thank you all for this but I can't take it. Am sorry." He gently said to the surprise of his friends especially Victor. "I did what I did for something else, not to be rewarded for any thing." He added and Uncle Olisa and mama understood. "Well, take it for your mum. Let's appreciate her for having you." He pushes on. "C'mon Jidenna, accept it na." Amanda adds in. He looks at her and she smiles at him, since she had tell him to take the money, he had no choice. Whenever he sees her, he felt his heart throbbing and his voice shaky at times, the day he first saw her was the day he fell in love with her. "Alright." Bye Amanda." He said waving at her. "Bye Jidenna." She replied him while Maureen was looking at him jealously. Few seconds after him and his friends walk out, she entered into her room and took a piece of paper and a pen, write something on and quickly went outside. She looked at the gate and sees Jidenna walking out followed by Victor behind. She called out to him and he immediately turned around, when he saw her walking towards him, he waited. Victor walked passed him as him and Favour waited a few feet away from them. "I came to ask if you would like to go out for lunch some time. My treat." Victor shields Favour behind, Jidenna carried a log of wood he saw and got prepared. The first guy with the axe ran immediately to Jidenna swinging the axe at his head but he maneuvers his move blocking the impact with the log of wood but lost his balance, he falls down, the boy strikes again but he was lucky to have to rolled out of the way of the axe, Victor wants to intervene but the other two blocks him, the fair plunges the machete at him but he steps back and swiftly gave him a striking blow to the chin, he goes down on one knee and spits out blood from his mouth, not wasting time, he kicks his his face and he falls down. Jidenna finds it out to get up on his feet since the first guy isn't giving him much space, with the axe again, he strikes at him, Jidenna uses the log as a shield but it broke into two parts, he tries swinging again but Jidenna used his foot and hit his Knee making him lose his balance when he falls to his feet, Jidenna march his face and falls down flat on the ground. "Ah!" Victor winces in pain as the third guy's machete scratches his left hand. He adjusted and kept a fighting stance, in his initial fight, he had forgotten Favour, the third guy swings his machete at his head, he ducks and gave him a headbutt and stumbles down. "That's wonderful." Pius said holding Favour in his hand. Holding the dagger to her neck. Turning around, Victor looks right at him "Let her go Pius." He said fearfully. Jidenna stands at Victor's side now holding the axe. "Let her go Pius, I was the one that reported you to the police, she had nothing to do with it." Jidenna pleads. "Why should I? You don't just cross me and and get away with it." He said and plunges the blade deep into Favour's back. "No!" Victor and Jidenna screamed at once as Favour falls down on the ground gasping for breath. Pius runs into the bush. In the twinkle of an eye, victor takes the axe from Jidenna's hand and chases after him. Jidenna ran to Favour, took off his polo and pressed against the open wound. "You're going to be fine." With tears in his eyes, he brings out his phone dials the emergency number, waiting for an ambulance. "Hold on please." He said seeing as Favour eyes widens in disbelief, she wondered if she would get the chance to survive. *** Victor sees Pius up ahead but didn't stop running, he throws the axe at him, Pius ducks out of the way, he stood up but Victor had already caught up with him. "Lucky shot but you missed." That'l angers Victor and he gave him a strong blow across his face and Pius laughs as he also punches Victor back. The both started fighting, tearing at each other with Victor taking the upper hand. "You bastard, am going to end you." Victor screams loudly as he punching him hard on the face, his fist bleeding but he didn't give a damn. He keeps punching him non stop then he froze as he felt a sharp pain in his left ribs, he takes a look and saw a dagger stuck in his flesh with Pius holding it. Pius had brought out his dagger without Victor's knowledge and stabbed him in his ribs. Victor quickly shifts back a little staggering as he falls to his knees. He looked up at Pius laughing hard. The dagger still stuck in his rib, his body dropping as he feels dizzy and weak. He couldn't speak as the pain travels through his whole body. He grunts loudly when Pius pulls the blade out of him then he falls down as he feels his eyes closing.

He heard his name and tried to open his eyes, it belongs to Jidenna, "Am here, blood. Your bleeding." He said as he ran to him clutching his stab wound. Two police men and two paramedics arrived sooner as they carried him on a stretcher. "He ran that way." Victor managed to say when the police asked him if his attacker. "Corporal, follow me." The heavily built officer tells his colleague and they both ran in the same direction Pius had earlier took. When the they came out of the bush, a police van is there as they arrested two of the boys while one ran away. Favour is seen at the back of the Ambulance as they wore her an oxygen mask, her back bandaged, soon Victor passed out and they carried both of them to St. Mary hospital that was two miles away. *** "We didn't see him but rest assured that we're going to find him soon. The two boys in our custody as already confessed to the crime and our boys are doing their possible best to apprehend him." Lieutenant Kingsley Chukwu told a worried Jidenna. The hospital door flings open and Abel, Favour's brother came in with Emeka accompanying him behind. "Jidenna, where's she?." Abel asked interrupting him and the police man who is on mufti. "Young man who are you?." Lt. Kingsley asked Abel who simply ignored him. "He is the brother to the injured girl officer." Jidenna said. "Well, in that case. She is doing okay." He said and Abel heaves a sigh of reason. "Where's Pius? Where's that bàstard." Abel asked. "He got away." Came the reply. "Come make we go secluded area like that unfinished building along That Iroko tree. "Pius eyed him suspiciously but agreed." Not knowing it was a trapped, he followed him behind. *** "Amanda where are you going?." Maureen asked her as she takes a handgun from the van, cucks it and checks the magazine before putting it in her front uses her polo shirt to cover it. "Maureen, Pius is a threat. Not to my family but everyone has in this community and am going to end him today." She replied as she hand her a piece of paper. "What's this?." Maureen ask. "Pius phone number." She replied. "How did you get it?." She pressed on. "I stole it from his phone." She answered looking somewhat angry. "Who's?" She asked again looking at her. "Jidenna. Track his cellphone. She teased and Amanda just smirks a lil. "Okay, we're on him. Lemme drive okay?." I'll be a dead man. And I still like my life." He shouts at him then looked over his shoulder and drops his gun down. Pius quickly put his hand in his fanny bag and touches his gun. "I wouldn't do that if I were you Pius." Abel said from behind. Pius, recognizing his voice laughs and turns back slowly clapping his hand. "I see I just walked into a trapped right?. He said and Abel scuffs. "You're not too bright. So slowly remove that pistol so we can talk as men." He said and Pius looks around and quickly brings out his pistol and aims at Abel, he ducks as the bullet hit Jude's chest killing him. He shoots at Abel again but screams out when a bullet ran through his left leg. Chineche had shot him from behind. "Pius. I Thought we are pals. Do you want to kill me?. Looking at the lifeless body of Jude, he got angry. "You've just killed my man. What am going to do to you now will be enjoyable by the three of us. "CiCi come deal with the basterd." Pius smiled at that. And Abel quickly suspected something. "CiCi wait." He signaled to him, "Pius take out your dagger. Am not stupid. This time if you do anything stupid I'll end you. Pius looks at him clutching his wounded knee. He brings out his dagger and throws it down far from him. "Good boy and I lied." Abel said as he cocks his head at his forehead. "Do it fool." Pius spits on him. "Gladly..." "Boom!" Pius brain splatters everywhere on the ground as he dies. Abel was shocked as he looks at his boys, all of them gave a puzzled look till Amanda, Maureen and Taofeeq showed up. "I just help you with the insect. You should thank me." Amanda said handing a shotgun to Taofeeq. Abel laughs and points his gun at her. "He was mine you bitch". Amanda looks at him and walks away. "I did you a favor. Deal with it." She said as the three walks out. Abel looks at them and shakes his head, looking over at Pius deformed head. He spits on him and CiCi and Emeka carried Jude lifeless body away. *** "Now what?." Maureen asked Amanda. "We find Michael's killer." She said. And Taofeeq looks on. "Good because his location isn't far from here." "Let's go then." The End.
