Episode Four
Vivian parked her Range Rover in the front of a well known supermarket, She went straight inside, she was dressed in a white sequin short gown, bringing out her hourglass figure, the breeze did justice to her long hair by flowing it backwards.
'You're welcome to.......
'Thanks!' Vive interjected rudely. She wasn't a fan of pleasantries, She considered them as a 'waste. of time', and she would rather go straight to the point without greetings,if permitted.
'I need two expensive white wine' She said, while stressing the expensive in her statement.
'Right away, Miss' The male attendant replied and dashed off to the inner room where the wines were kept.
Vive took the time off and studied the supermarket, it was neatly arranged, and it was filled with various types of people doing their shopping.
'Here it is!' The male attendant said and handed her two bottles of wine.
'Thanks' Vive replied and paid the male attendant and left the supermarket.
She was about crossing the road to the other side where her car was parked when a crazy taxi driver who was driving carelessly splashed mud water all over her dress. The driver drove off without apologising. Vive was angry and bitter at the moment,She quickly rushed to her car, trying to save herself when she heard a voice.
'Vivian! Vivian!!' A guy called out.
Vive half-turned and saw Kay, her former coursemate in the university.
'Hey, longest time, it's been a while.' Kay said with a big smile.
'Yeah...how have you been?' Vive said coldly, slightly embarrassed by her dress.
As if reading her mind,He said 'Sorry about your dress, that's lagos for you and I'm doing great!'
'So, what are you doing here?'
'I should be asking what brought you here, this is my hood, I live around here now!' Kay said with a touch of pride.
'Wow! This is great'
Kay grinned widely, opening all of his teeth.
'What are you smiling at?'
'You!'
Confusion sliced through her. 'Me? If it's about my dress, Mehn, laugh all you can!'
'Nah, not about your dress, it's just that I could never have imagined that I would be standing so close to you right now.'
'Why? Am I a masquerade?'
'Nope! You know you were like the prom queen then, everybody wants to hang out with you, you were really classy then....
'And I'm not classy anymore?'
'Not at all, but.....let's go for a drink, just for old times sake, what do you say?'
'Lead the way!' Vive said and they went to the nearby restaurant together.
Episode five
Ope opened the booth of her car and arranged some of her luggage there, She mimed to the hip hop music blasting out from her phone.
She was really going to have the time of her life, her husband had told her, they were not going to live their life in Nigeria, but she never knew it was going to be this fast.
She closed the booth and walked inside their hotel room. The door creaked as she opened it.
'I'm ready! Let's get going!' She said calmly.
Jide sat benumbed on the bed and ran his hands on his head. He took a sharp intake of breath and stared blankly at his wife.
'What's wrong?' Ope asked, She was feeling uneasy and she felt something was wrong.
Silence..
'Damn it! Let's be on our way else we would miss our flight' She retorted firmly.
'We are not going anywhere!' Jide said, his voice was terse.
A frown creased Ope's brows and maelstrom of emotions welled up in her and threaten to explode, If anything she hated indecisive people.
'Excuse me?' She asked with a voice barely higher than a whisper.
'We are not travelling again, you heard me, right!'
'Because?'
'Because I don't want us to go anymore'
His answer knocked her off her feet and she felt like a fool whose opinions aren't needed when decisions are being made.
'It's been just a month, that we're married and why do I feel like you've relegated me to something, I can't even comprehend, you told me last night that. Our passport and visa are ready and we are travelling abroad this morning and I've been busy packing out things in the car and now....
'Mother needs to see us tomorrow' He interjected.
'Oh really! Why didn't you tell me you're a mummy's boy? You mean you would cancel out our trip because 'your mummy needs to see us'?'
Her voice was very loud, such that Jide feared it might alarmed the people next door.
'Keep quiet, let's settle...
'Sweetie, we can't settle anything, I'm sure your mummy would have your manhood if you don't do as she pleases!'
Even though, she said 'sweetie', She wasn't sweet with her outbursts, She was condescending.
'Have you gone nuts? How dare you?'
'I'm perfectly fine, you need to check yourself by the way, you're married, you're not tied to your mother's waist, you have a family, Jide, you have to make decision for your family, We've been in this place for the past one month, Your mummy didn't disturb us, but just when we were about to trave...
'It's just a trip to Dubai, and nothing more, why so insensitive?'
'Oh really? I'm insensitive' She strode up to him. 'Sorry to burst your bubbles, I'm not going anywhere, it's not about the trip, it's about you standing firm with your decision'
'We are going to leave this hotel, like immediately and nothing, I repeat nothing is going to stop us!'
'I am not going anywhere!' Ope said firmly.
Jide was running out of patience, Time was not on his side anymore and he can never come out clean to his wife, Jide was damn sure, it would ruin his marriage. Then he had a brainwave, and an idea struck him.
'Okay fine! We're going to the Airport!' He said , all smiles.
She was calm within few seconds. 'We are ten minutes late, I don't think....
'Don't think! Just do it, we might be lucky'
Protesting forward would be futile, Ope picked few things and left their hotel room with her husband to the 'Airport'.
