Episode 5

The woman came inside and I saw someone that looks like my mother in-law, the age bracket will not be too far from each other.
"Is this Agbeke?", I thought.

" Mama Segun", I saw my husband calling the woman's name with excitement.
The woman laughed and hug my husband and I was just looking at them.

"Is this your wife?", she asked.

" Yes ma", my husband replied.

"What about my children"

"Hmmm...we're trusting God ma", he replied.

My mother in-law did not allow my husband to finish the statement when she cuts in.

" That is what he always say, trusting God all these years... "

"Haaahaa...mama Tobi", the woman cautioned my mother in-law, she always call her mama Tobi, Tobi is her first born, my husband elder sister.

" My wife, how are you doing ", she moved towards me and gave me a warm hug.

" I'm fine ma, thank you very much ma", I replied as I smiled a little.

"You did not know me, I was not around during your wedding, I went abroad but I always talk with my friend. Mama Tobi and I are good friends from our village and she always tell me about you.", the woman said.

" You're welcome ma, please have your seat ma", I ushered them to sit down.

"Thank you very much my dear wife", she said as she took her seat beside my mother in-law.

I went to the freezer to get them cold juice as I pour the juice for them myself.

I sat beside my husband as he engage them in a conversation.

" And how is everyone at home?", he asked my mother in-law.

"They are all fine. I followed my friend here as her last child did her naming ceremony yesterday, we were about to go back when I told her we should also see you before going back", she said.

" Oohh....okay", Daniel replied by nodding his head.

"I hope you know Tope, my last born?", mama Segun asked Daniel.

" Yes ma...I remember how we always teach her and her mates in the village then", my husband said smiling.

"Anyway, she got married last year and she gave birth recently, yesterday was the naming ceremony", she continued.

"Alright ma, that's good", Daniel said.

" Anyway mama Segun will go back to her daughter's house, I will stay here till tomorrow before we both go back", my mother in-law said.

"No problem about that ma", Daniel replied.

I finished cooking as I serve everybody hot semo with egusi soup. I watched how my mother in-law was looking at me while eating. But I concentrate on my food. We finished eating and we all left the dining. I went to the kitchen while the rest of them went to the sitting room to watch a movie.

After some time, mama Segun said she was going as she did not want to get late to where she was going.

We all followed her as she left our place.

" Thank you my dear daughter, don't worry, your prayers will be answered soon", she said as she entered the taxi.

"Thank you ma, bye ma", I replied her.

We got inside with my mother in-law and it was already late.

" What do you want for dinner ma?", I asked her as she was sitting down with all concentration on the movie.

She did not reply me as I was forced to ask her again.

"What should I prepare for you ma?", I asked again.

"See...you this woman, I don't want to eat anything, I will eat when I see my children", she said.

I think this is the opportunity I have to talk sense into this woman, my husband was busy with his laptop in the bedroom.

" Ma, but I am not the one that is manufacturing children and it's not good as you're blaming me for our childlessness ", I said.

" So who should I blame?, my son?", she asked.

"As a matter of fact ma, blaming will not solve the issue, you suppose to be praying for us and be helping us with what we can do to have a child, but all you do is to put the blame on me,and I know it is not your fault, it is the fault of the society that put childlessness as the fault of the woman, neglecting the man also..."

"So, what do you mean?", she asked.

" I mean you ought to support us and always help us in prayers...."

"I've done that and I am tired of doing that...now I'm ready to take action and you will see the action soon", she said as she stood up angrily and went to her room.

>>>Months Later<<<

" Hello, who is inside? ", I heard mummy Junior's voice calling me. I was busy reading a Christian novel.

" Yes, I'm coming ma"

I went to open the door for her.

"Come inside ma", I said as I ushered her inside.

" Thank you my dear, sister "

"So who do I owe this visit?"

"I want to thank you for your help that you rendered in Junior's birthday party and I want to tender apology on behalf of Precious...."

"Precious?"

"Yes, I got to know that you leave the party in anger because of what she said, I am so sorry about that, don't mind her, you know she's not married yet, so she cannot know how it is now"

"It's alright ma, it is not her fault, I know God will vindicate me"

"Yes ma, I believe you ma, God will vindicate you ma, and I shall rejoice with you soon", she replied.

As we were talking, I felt the urge to vomit and I quickly rushed to the toilet.

" What is it dear", Mummy Junior asked

"I don't know, I've been feeling somehow since last week"

"And have you gone to the hospital?"

"Not yet"

"It's better you should go so that you can know what is wrong and the treatment for it"

"Alright ma, I will go tomorrow", I said as she left.

"Or can it be pregnancy?, I pray it should be pregnancy ooo, the way I will rejoice eehhnn".

I changed my posture immediately I saw Joy entering the office holding a paper in her hand. I guess that was my test result.

I was smiling as she sat down but I stopped immediately I heard what she says.
