Dayo's Angel Episode 10
He hoped and prayed his lawyer could find a way through all of this, he yearned to see her again, to know her better.
‘Goodmorning bro’ Adaeze sauntered into his bedroom.
‘Morning, how are you’? Dayo stared at his sister. He’d listened to her call and from the look she’d given him, she was hiding something, he remembered the name of the lounge she was supposed to meet her ‘tracker friend’, he decided that he’ll follow her there without her knowledge.
‘Still mad at me’? she encircled her arms around him. This man was so handsome, she wished he was hers, he was every woman’s dream.
‘No, but you’ll have to pray nothing happens to Moyo, this is all your fault you know’ he reminded her.
‘The way you’re taken by this strange girl baffles me, you know next to nothing about her’ Adaeze moved away from him irritated by his concern.
‘You’re right, but I think I like her’ Dayo admitted for the first time.
‘You like her? What about Kayode’?Adaeze asked, it seems her plans had backfired. If she had not called Emem and informed her about Moyo, Kayode would’ve kept her for himself and that would cause Dayo to kill any iota of feeling he had for her.
‘He lied to us remember? He said she was his girlfriend but that is not the case, so I don’t think going after her is wrong’ he shrugged. He’d felt slightly guilty at first, when he desired her, but right then, he was rid of all guilt.
‘Excuse me, let me take this’ Adaeze fetched her phone, Emem was calling.
‘Goodmorning honey, guess what’? Emem sounded excited.
‘Morning to you, what’s that’? Ada asked wondering why Kayode’s crazy girlfriend was so excited.
‘I’m getting married, I want you to be my maid of honor, it’s happening right now’ Emem said.
‘What do you mean you’re getting married, it’s so sudden’ Ada was surprised.
‘Don’t worry, just come over, I’ll explain later’ She brought the call to an end.
‘Who’s getting married’? Dayo asked.
‘Kayode and Emem’ Ada replied.
‘What? Why would he marry someone like that? Is he crazy’? Dayo rose to his feet. How could his friend get married without informing him?
‘I don’t know, I guess we should dress up for this wedding’ Ada rolled her eyes.

His life was a mess and he knew this, he’d dined with the devil and there was no escaping for him.
‘Phew’ he gasped. It happened just like a dream, how could he have been so careless? Now Emem was in possession of the very documents that could land him in jail, it was all his fault.
After paying a visit to Dayo and his lawyer Wale, he’d come home to meet his house fully embellished with all manners of décor, flowers and ribbons and a man in a grey suit who claimed to be a priest.
‘What is going on here’? he’d asked her but she just popped a wine bottle and drank from it.
‘We’re getting married, that’s what’s happening’ Emem replied. He’d laughed her to scorn, he’d mocked her and called her names, but the moment she showed him those papers, he became silent.
‘Honey, open up’ her knocking brought him back to the bitterness of reality.
He had no choice, he had to marry Emem to save his head else she’d leak his secret like she’d threatened.
‘I am coming’ he replied tightly. Now he would lose Moyo forever, there was no chance to show her his love and this was all Dayo’s fault. A spark of anger turned to hatred as he thought about Dayo, he had the wealth, now he would equally take Moyo away from him, if his nit witted sister had not informed Emem about his Moyo, all these wouldn’t have happened.
‘Guests have started arriving, get a grip on yourself Kay’ Emem was persistent. He’d left her with no choice but to force him into the marriage, she’d been with him through thick and thin and there was no leaving him.
‘I’m coming’ he grumbled and reached for the door. Dayo and his family would pay heavily for what they’d done to him, he vowed it.
‘Why do you look so sad honey? It’s our wedding day’ Emem stretched out her hands to rub his face but he dodged it.
‘Why are you doing this to me? Are you aware we’ll never be happy? You’ll never be the woman of my dreams Emem, stop deceiving yourself’ Kayode scowled at her.
‘Do you really have to be that mean to me? Remember I have the papers that could be your very end’ she swallowed hard.
‘Oh come off it, we both know you’ll not turn me in, you’re just doing this to ruin my life, but God would save me from your hands’ he smirked.
‘God? You’re deluding yourself Kayode, marrying me is the best thing that is going to happen to your pathetic life’ Emem inhaled deeply. She knew Kayode hated her, but she would manipulate him against the very person that had been on her way for a long time, Dayo.
His best friend Dayo, had never approved of their relationship, and somehow, she got to know about this, and Kayode’s undying love and devotion to Dayo irked her.
‘Me? Pathetic? Bitch you and your whole family are the ones who are pathetic, now go get dressed and let’s go ahead with the wedding’ Kayode hissed angrily. He couldn’t tell Dayo about the wedding, he decided to push him out of his life.
‘I’m just being honest, I know you want to be Dayo so bad, you want to be rich like him or even richer that’s why you were running those shady deals, you care so much about a friend who doesn’t regard you, so, just accept me and let’s build our empire together’ Emen poured out her thoughts.
‘Just go, get out’ he dismissed her with a wave of his hands.
The words echoed in his mind and he felt scared as he realized Emem had spoken the truth, Dayo was perfect, Dayo was everything he’d wished to be, but he wasn’t able to achieve it.

Being a legal practitioner came with its privileges. Dayo was one of his biggest clients and he’d do anything to please him.
Wale had known his parents, he’d been their lawyer too, till they both died and assigned him in charge of affairs pertaining to their only son.
‘That’s my Identity card, I’m from Wale Chambers’ he showed the police that were on the Moyo case his card.
‘Welcome Barrister, we’ve been on this case for a while now and there’s nothing new can find, it’s a dead case, I’m afraid you may not find much’ the man scanned his ID card briefly.
‘I am representing my client, this missing girl had come for him for treatment, so I have information that may help you, provided you let me through’Wale knew how the police could act at times, it seemed they didn’t trust him.
‘Go in then, we’ll talk later’ they lifted the yellow tapes and he went into the building were Moyo’s guardians were killed.
‘What do we have here’? Wale searched the house but he couldn’t find a thing. The house had become a crime scene, though the bodies had been taken away, the dark stains on the brown carpet were still there, obviously they were bloodstains.
It was really a tough case, who were after Moyo and her family? He knew Dayo would be disappointed, but there was nothing much he could do, so he picked his briefcase and was about to leave when he saw a piece of paper at the edge of the center table. He decided to take a look at it, it wasn’t a piece of paper like he’d thought, it was a complementary card.
‘The Harem’ he read the words. He wondered what that was about, he fetched it quickly and dropped it in his briefcase and stormed out. He had a feeling he’d just found a key to solve the puzzle.
‘Thank you officers, I wish I had listened to you, the case is a dead one’ Wale said as he approached them.
‘I’m glad you’ve seen for yourself’ they replied sounding more confident.
