Dayo's Angel Episode 11
‘This is like a big April joke, how on earth would Kayode get married without informing me’? Dayo had decided to go for the wedding.
‘It still baffles me brother mine, let’s go check it out’ Ada stepped down from the car, she had a feeling Emem was manipulating Kayode, because she’d never believed those two could get married.
‘So when do you plan to meet your tracker friend? We still haven’t talked about your dad’ Dayo digressed. He needed to see for himself for the last time, if his sister was hiding something from him.
‘Uhmmm, he wouldn’t be around for two weeks, whenever he comes, I shall alert you’ Adaeze busied herself with arranging her gown. She didn’t like the look on Dayo’s face, he was suspicious and that could ruin all her plans. She needed to see Abu before her cover was blown.
‘Alright then, take your time’ Dayo replied coolly. That was it, Adaeze was not being truthful and he would work hand in hand with his lawyer to uncover whatever it was about her dad that she refused to air out.
‘Oh my God, I’m so happy you could come, welcome guys’ Emem rushed to welcome them.
‘Thanks darling, you look swell, it’s your lucky day’ Ada hugged her.
‘Where’s Kay’? Dayo asked.
‘In his room, preparing, aren’t you excited for us’? Emem wondered why Dayo hated her so much.
‘Of course I am, I’m just wondering why this wedding is so sudden’ Dayo walked past them and left for Kay’s room.
Kayode was the brother he never had, they were one and loved each other equally, they even shared a secret that no one else could learn, he’d shielded Kayode from it all, that’s what made their bond stronger.
‘Go away Emem, I am putting an end to all of this misery’ Kayode groaned.
‘Open the door Kay, it’s me’ Dayo pounded hard against the door.
‘Yes, what do you want’? Kayode pulled open the door.
‘Oh my God, you’re drunk on your wedding day, what’s going on Kay’? Dayo pushed past him and stepped into the room.
It reeked of alcohol and cigarette, that wasn’t what caught his attention, it was the pistol on his bed that caused him to panic, had his friend contemplated suicide?
‘Just get out, the world loves you and not me, everyone adores you and not me, let go of my gun, let me end it all’ Kayode struggled with him but he was faster.
‘I am taking this home; I can’t let you kill yourself over some silly mistake’ Dayo quickly placed it in his pocket and pressed Kay on the bed.
‘Kayode!’ he shook him hard.
‘I am scared Dayo, she’s going to ruin my life’ he broke into sobs as the effect of the alcohol waned.
‘Sorry man, listen up, I promise you this, you would be fine, I will talk to Emem, just get married to her, you have no choice, that baby in her womb is probably yours, though she has a nasty behavior, I can vouch that she was loyal. Just accept this and move on, life continues, okay’? Dayo comforted him.
‘Thanks man, I feel better; you’ve always been there for me’ Kayode felt better after speaking with his friend.
‘And you’ve been with me too, even on that night….’ Dayo paused as he remembered what they’d done many years back when they were children.
‘It was all my fault, you took the blame, one of the reasons our parents moved to this side of town, we were inseparable’ Kayode replied. He remembered that night vividly, when they’d thrown a bottle at a neighbor’s generator and there was a spark. As kids, they were curious and wondered why it sparked, so they threw stones and before they knew, a fire had started. The fire consumed the whole house, but no one had known they were behind the fire.
‘So brace up yourself, smile, you’re going to be fine’ Dayo smiled and reached for his buzzing phone.
‘Hello Dayo, we need to see right away, I discovered something that may be useful in finding Moyo; I am at my chambers right now, hurry’ Wale said.
‘Finally!’ Dayo sighed; there was hope for the case.
‘Who was that’? Kayode was curious.
‘Just a client, I need to go now, I’ll be back in the next thirty minutes, I promise’ Dayo dashed off.
‘A client eh’? Kayode sat dejectedly on the bed. Dayo didn’t really care about him, Emem was right.
‘It’s probably about Moyo and he doesn’t want me to hear about it’ Kayode smiled mischievously. Though they shared a deadly secret, he was going to break the code of brotherhood, after all, Dayo wasn’t his biological brother, he needed a plan.
At ‘The Harem’ Larkin fed on a cigarette as his eyes scanned the documents that proclaimed him owner of the underground brothel. He’d built it from a scratch and turned it into an empire. He smiled and remembered the voices in his head that told him he was good for nothing, that reminded him of his deficiency in height, but he never gave up, his mother had always believed in him.
‘Bless her soul’ he inhaled deeply, his mother had taught him to be strong, she’d encouraged him to face the world but she’d died young and left him to fend for himself, he never knew his father, so the streets swallowed him alive but one day he became strong and fought back.
‘I am here boss; you sent for me’ Abu stepped into Larkin’s Study nervously. He couldn’t deny that Adaeze’s words had some effect on him, he’d had enough time to think about his life and from the look of it, Larkin was not ready to let him go anytime soon.
‘I need your views on something’ Larkin offered him a seat.
‘Anything sir’ Abu nodded.
‘For many years now, we’ve been running this place underground, I’m thinking of taking it to the next level, we have very rich clients, the lot of them are political leaders so we have all the protection we need. I want us to engage in the production of adult videos’ Larkin said.
‘Blue films’? Abu raised his brow.
‘Yes, it’s a lucrative business and many would be willing to pay for it, this would propel us to great riches’ Larkin’s eyes danced greedily.
‘It’s a good idea, but that would mean we’ll need more people’ Abu muttered silently, it meant they were going to kidnap more and he didn’t like the feeling of it, Larkin was not ready to let him go.
‘Yes, would that be a problem for you Abu? You’ve never complained about it’ Larkin noticed a change in the boy’s countenance, was he growing soft?
‘Not at all, but we’ll have to cover our tracks and be more careful’ Abu replied, he couldn’t sound weak, he needed to pretend as long as possible before Adaeze came up with her plan. One thing was sure, he needed his own freedom from Larkin, but how could he earn it? When Larkin was a dangerous man?
‘Like I said, our rich clients would always protect us, we have senators and governors, the elite of the society eating from our palms, what do you think can stop us’? Larkin beamed.
‘Nothing’ Abu rose to his feet.
‘Good, tell Shantal to get Moyo ready, it’s time for her to serve our clients, she has rested enough’ Larkin instructed, Abu bowed and stepped out.
‘Do you mind’? Abu bumped into Cindy as he stepped out of Larkin’s office, what was she doing there? Did Larkin send for her? It seemed weird, Larkin hardly slept with the girls, he had his own mistress who run her own brothel in the northern part of the country.
‘Whatever’ Cindy sneered and pushed the door open.
