Dayo's Angel Episode 12
‘Moyo, there’s something I’d like to share with you, I don’t know how you’ll handle it, but it’s really important’ Linda rubbed her hands nervously; she needed to let Moyo in on the truth as Shantal had advised.
‘Yes, go ahead’ Moyo quickly sat up. She’d eavesdropped on Linda’s conversation with Shantal and it scared her, how could such a thing happen? It sounded like some fairy tale.
‘You see that man over there’? Linda pointed to the picture on her dressing mirror.
‘Yes’ Moyo nodded.
‘That’s my father’ Linda paused.
‘Yes, I figured it out, the resemblance is too strong’ Moyo smiled.
‘What I am about telling you would change your life forever, it could even lead to the death of us all, but you told me to pursue freedom and that’s what I am doing, I need you to join me in this, what do you think’? Linda had to seek her opinion first.
‘See, I am prepared to do anything, at any cost to get the hell out of this place, so go ahead and tell me everything’ Moyo replied.
‘My real name is Adaeze and not Linda, my father had issues with alcohol and gambling, so he lost a bet and that’s how I ended up here. Larkin stole my father’s name, his documents and everything that belonged to me, that’s not the part that hurt me most.
I am quite sure, my father had bragged about my mother’s riches and her wishes for me, my mother had me while having extramarital affairs with my dad, I never met her, but my dad told me she was nice, though we wrote letters and exchanged pictures’ she paused.
‘Larkin came to the knowledge that my mother had left a great portion of her wealth for me, but I could only possess it when I came of age, that was one of the reasons I returned to Nigeria with my father.
My mother had just died at the time and he needed me to familiarize with my half-brother whom I’ve never met, Temidayo’ she paused again as she noticed the confusion on Moyo’s face.
‘Temidayo?’ her heart pounced at the mention of that name, it brought back memories of Kayode’s friend, the medical doctor whom she couldn’t stop thinking about.
‘Yes, so when Larkin kidnapped me and slaughtered my father, he came up with his own plans. I met another girl when I arrived here, Linda by name, she was the prettiest of us all and Larkin used this to his advantage and we were almost the same age.
He knew I had returned to Nigeria to meet with my brother and from my mother’s letters, he knew my brother had never set eyes on me before, so he switched us. Linda became me and I became Linda, she went by the name Adaeze as most people know her now, then they pierced me and took some of my blood for her D.N.A test to prove she was related to Dayo’ tears welled up in her eyes.
‘Adaeze? Please describe this lady’ Moyo’s heart raced. First Linda had mentioned ‘Dayo’, now ‘Adaeze’, she wondered if it was the same rude woman she’d met at the doctor’s house.
‘Tall, light skinned, very pretty, do you know her’? Linda wondered.
‘Do you have her picture’? Moyo asked.
‘No, but Larkin does, if we could sneak into his office, maybe we could find it’ Linda replied.
‘Please we need to, we need to work together now and find a way out, so what’s your plan’? Moyo asked.
‘I spoke with Shantal and Cindy, I’m trying to gather more people for this cause, then we plan on winning Abu over, he is the closest to Larkin, if we could by any chance gained his support, then we’ll be as good as free’ Linda sounded hopeful, she had already lost an eye trying to escape, she was willing to lose more.
‘Do you trust Shantal and Cindy very much? Like how much percentage of trust can you allot to them because it’s one thing to have a plan and it’s another for someone to leak it. Trust becomes a vital ingredient if we must win this war’ Moyo advised.
‘I do trust Shantal completely; I’d give Cindy a 60′ Linda paused, could the girls really betray her? Who didn’t want out of bondage?
‘Then you shouldn’t have told Cindy, from what you’re saying, you don’t trust her, you just told her because you felt she’d be interested’ Moyo observed and Linda paled knowing the implications of her actions.
‘Not to worry, even if someone snitches, we still have enough time to create another plan, here’s what I think’ Moyo suggested, she felt Linda’s plan was too weak, they needed a Plan B. If Linda’s plan was to fail, then they’d fall back on her own plan.
‘Let me hear it’ Linda inquired.
‘For us to escape from the Harem, we need the help of an outsider, I know that’s totally impossible as Larkin and his men are always on the watch even when the girls are with their clients. I think we would need Adaeze, it’s risky but we have to take this risk, let’s win her over, and see if she could tell the authorities of Larkin’s kidnappings and forced sex work.
If Adaeze is willing to work with us, it would give us hope, and it’s better than relying solely on Abu, the way I see him, he looks wholly loyal to Larkin and winning him over is almost impossible’ Moyo sneered, she never really liked Abu.
‘That would be difficult, even if we were to work with Adaeze, we’ll need to speak with her and we ladies are not allowed to own phones. It’s only Abu and Larkin that have that luxury, that’s the reason we need Abu. Don’t you understand’? Linda asked.
‘Oh, I get then, we have no choice than to put all our eggs in one basket’ Moyo replied quietly.
Suddenly the door burst open and Abu stepped into the room, to the amazement and fear of the girls, what if he’d been listening?
‘Get up bitch, you’re getting holed up tonight’ he dragged Moyo off her feet and bundled her up.
‘What do you think you’re doing, put her down Abu, this is no way to treat a lady’ Linda rose to her defense.
‘Lady? You’re all whores’ Abu sneered and laughed hysterically.
‘Wale, we need to work fast, I am to stand as Kayode’s best man, so just tell me what you found’ Dayo stepped into his Lawyer’s office.
‘Sit down’ Wale wondered why he was in such a hurry.
‘Did you hear me? I don’t have much time’ Dayo slid into a chair.
‘Relax, we have a lot of work on our hands, check that out’ Wale offered him the complementary card he’d found.
‘The Harem? What’s this’? Dayo wondered.
‘I searched the internet for an hour in search of that organization and I found nothing’ Wale rose to his feet and paced the room.
‘So? Keep looking, I’m willing to pay you more, we need to find Moyo, I don’t want anything bad to happen to her’ Dayo said.
‘Then pray hard because I made some calls and what I was told about that organization is gruesome, I fear your friend may already be in harm’s way’ Wale said.
‘Tell me about it’ Dayo was petrified.
‘It is an underground brothel where the crème of the society go to seek and receive pleasure and they pay heavily for it. I found this card on the murder scene of Moyo’s relatives, the police had tried to dissuade me, they’d told me there was nothing but I followed my instincts and I found this card.
This means that one of Moyo’s parents was involved with this brothel, and maybe they had some issues, so they decided to kidnap their daughter and wiped them off the face of the earth’ Wale explained.
‘That’s insane, why would somebody do that? Are you saying these brothel runners may have kidnapped Moyo’? Dayo asked.
‘Yes, that is the only valid explanation, now I have this card; we need to find a way to get into that club and search for her’ Wale suggested.
‘That wouldn’t be a problem would it?’ Dayo asked, he didn’t like Wale’s countenance.
‘There would be a problem, not everyone is allowed into the Harem. They have special customers and each had a passkey that allows them in, most of these men are very powerful and therefore must be protected from scandal, that’s the only challenge we have’ Wale rubbed his chin.
‘What if we call them and tell them we’re interested in joining the club? What they’ll need most is our money, so we have to disguise ourselves and claim to be business men looking for pleasure, that’s our best bet’ Dayo suggested.
‘Yes! Brilliant idea, I never thought of this’ Wale grinned.
‘Thanks, I need to go now’ Dayo rose to his feet.
