Dayo's Angel Episode four
His mind was restless, driving with focus took him much effort as thoughts of her being harmed troubled him beyond measure, from the first time Kay brought the girl to his house, he knew his heart had been stolen by her, but he pushed such thoughts away as Kay was his bosom friend. How could Kay let his lunatic ex drive Moyo away?
From the beginning, he’d dissuaded Kay from dating Emem but he wouldn’t listen, the girl was troublesome from what he’d heard but Kay was a sucker for busty women and Emem was busty.
‘Where is she? What happened’? Dayo rushed out of the car as he brought it to a halt.
‘I don’t know Dayo, I’m so scared, I’ve checked everywhere for her but I can’t find her’ Kayode replied with a shaking voice. He felt so bad for what had happened to her, Emem had come to ruin his life, to ruin his one chance of finding true and pure love, things Moyo represented.
‘What really happened? Why did Emem come here? I thought you guys had broken up’? Dayo arched his brow.
‘I don’t know, it seems someone tipped her off about Moyo’s presence; she’s still up there’ he pointed to his house.
‘Emem is your ex, and has no right to come and drive your girlfriend out of the house, man up Kay, I’m disappointed in you’ Dayo shook his head.
‘Man, there’s nothing I could do about that bitch, she just wants to ruin my life, she came threatening me to send Moyo away and when I scorned her, she pointed a gun to my face, she is heavily pregnant as we speak’ Kayode hissed, he was in a hot mess and he needed to get out of it fast.
‘Pregnant? Please don’t tell me it’s yours, how could you get her pregnant? Man, you know how violent she is, she’s going to ruin your life” Dayo was shocked at the news.
‘I don’t know what to do, let’s just focus on Moyo first, what should we do, how do we find her’? Kayode asked.
Kayode toyed with the idea of telling Dayo the truth, the truth which was this, that he’d picked Moyo on the streets, he knew nothing about her and she wasn’t his girlfriend.
‘Call her, I guess she’s angry with you but just beg her or something’ Dayo suggested.
‘I…’ Kayode paused, he didn’t have her number.
‘What? What’s wrong’? Dayo asked.
‘I’m sorry I should have told you the truth’ Kayode exhaled, he couldn’t lie to his friend no more.
‘What truth’? Dayo wondered.
‘Moyo isn’t my girlfriend, I hit her on my way home and I picked her, I lied about that’ he said.
‘Why would you lie about that’? Dayo stared at his friend suspiciously.
‘Nothing, I just wanted to please you, you know, I thought you’d be cool if I hung out with a girl life that’ Kayode replied.
‘Well, that’s true, I want you to be with a girl like that, she looks angelic and wouldn’t give you trouble like that, now, your latest revelation would make things very difficult for us’ Dayo rubbed his chin. Where would they start? This would be a tough one.
‘What do we do? I’m so scared’ Kayode asked.
‘Well maybe she’s gone back to her place, there’s nothing much we could do, do you have her full names? We could try to reach her on Facebook? Even if we report to the police, we don’t have her names or her picture, we’d probably look stupid’ Dayo reasoned.
‘Are you saying we should give up just like that’? Kayode asked.
‘I’m saying we should keep our fingers crossed, hoping for the worst and the best, let’s pray she isn’t in any harm, I’ll help you find her, I’ll call my lawyer, he’s good with things like this, with the help of the police, we may find her or trace her to wherever you picked her from’Dayo reassured him.
‘Thanks very much’ Kayode was pleased
‘But…once we find her, she’s staying with me till you get that lunatic out of your house’ Dayo said and he meant every word.
‘Whatever you say boss, just call your lawyer” Kayode smiled. Dayo was right to say that Emem was a ruffian and could do anything to harm Moyo. One problem was solved, now he had to figure out a way to get rid of Emem.
‘He must be asleep, it’s quite late, I’ll call him tomorrow’ Dayo replied and slid into his car.
‘Thanks man, we’ll see tomorrow’ Kayode waved at him.
As he drove into his compound, he saw Emem waiting for him.
‘Hello sweetheart’ Emem drawled as she came close to him.
‘What do you want’? His voice was icy and unwelcoming but she wasn’t perturbed.
‘This is a list of my needs and the baby’s; I have just a month to go before she is born and’ she presented him a sheet of paper.
‘What’s all this? Why do you want to ruin my life? I would never accept that pregnancy and you know that, get rid of it’ Kayode hissed and walked away angrily.
‘Wait, were you talking to me’? Emem scoffed, he was incredible.
‘Who else? Just stay the hell away from me else I’d go to the police and get a restraining order’ he warned.
‘You’re such a huge joke, when you refused to use condoms on me, when I begged you to wear them, what did you say? ‘Baby nothing is gonna happen’, now I’m pregnant, I already aborted five babies for your ungrateful ass and you’re telling me to get rid of it, are you for real’? She gestured with her hands.
‘That’s your problem not mine, I don’t love you and would never do, so just get your ugly self out of my house and rot in hell’ he fired at her.
‘You lie Kayode, you lie, I am not going anywhere and you are getting married to me whether you like it or not, I wouldn’t let you play me and get away just like that, we’re in this together, you and me’ Emem fired back.
‘Whatever bitch’ he sighed and walked away, he should’ve listened to his friend Dayo and stayed away from Emem, she was really no good.
‘Me bitch’? Tears welled up in her eyes. She wondered what she had done to deserve so much hatred from Kayode. He hated her so much; he couldn’t hide it nor pretend anymore.
She knew she had her flaws, but those flaws helped her to survive when her mother died, she learnt early that the world wasn’t nice to calm people.
She remembered when he had nothing, but she never turned him down or made unnecessary demands, she was patient and loving and believed one day, he would make her his wife, but everything had changed when he had a big job at an oil company, he now saw her as filth, but she wouldn’t let him go, Kayode had to pay for his crimes against her.
Tears fell from her cheeks; if Adaeze had not called her, she wouldn’t have known about his new girlfriend. She was ready to kill anyone who came between her and Kayode, they were meant to be.
‘Shantal!’ one of the guards yelled as they dropped her in a room filled with many young women. They were all expensively dressed and wore the best make-ups, she saw such women on T.V.
‘You don’t have to yell my name, I’m not deaf, Abu’ a chubby middle aged woman rushed towards them.
‘I don’t have time for you old woman, just get the girl ready, the boss needs her fresh and clean by tomorrow, so she resumes work’ Abu replied and pushed Moyo forward, she almost crashed into Shantal.
‘I’m sorry’ Moyo whispered to the woman.
‘No, it’s not your fault child’ Shantal rubbed her head, she was so pretty.
‘A new whore for the boys’ one of the young girls screamed and they all burst out laughing.
‘Careful now, Cindy, else you’ll miss breakfast’ Shantal warned, she hated it when the girls made fun of each other.
‘Where am I? What is this place’? Moyo asked, the woman seemed friendly; maybe she could help her escape.
‘This isn’t the time for questions, take a seat and eat something then you get cleaned up’ Shantal replied and walked away.
She felt very sad whenever another young girl was brought into Larkin’s harem; that was the name of the man her father had gambled with and used her as collateral.
When he’d lost the gamble, Larkin and his band of thugs came looking for her and they found her, he forced her into prostitution and when she grew old turned her into a cook and a patron for other prostitutes.
Ojo Larkin was a dwarfish man, from what her father had told him, Larkin grew up in the states, he lived in America for a good number of years before he was deported for some reason. Though Larkin was a man of small statue, he had so much power and that made him very dangerous.
