Dayo's Angel Episode Five
Ojo Larkin was a dwarfish man, from what her father had told him, Larkin grew up in the states, he lived in America for a good number of years before he was deported for some reason. Though Larkin was a man of small statue, he had so much power and that made him very dangerous.
Adaeze knew her brother was angry with her, but she had nothing to say to him, she was living a lie and she couldn’t lead him into that. Larkin had warned her about this, soon her cover would be blown and Larkin’s plan would be ruined, she shivered at the thought of being punished by Larkin, death was far better than his cruelty.
Like many other girls he’d kidnapped for his pimping business, he’d preyed on her easily as she’d been an orphan, who roamed the streets and slept around not knowing where to go, he’d kidnapped her at fourteen and forced her to do his bidding, one of which she was doing right now. She’d lived this fake life for about ten years, all to make more money for his greedy throat.
When would her lies end? When would her slavery end?, no one could escape Larkin, no one at all, Linda tried it and paid with her eyes, she knew his boys were watching her, they’d been watching her for the past ten years though they hid themselves, but she knew Larkin’s men were always around to monitor her movement.
She couldn’t go on like that, if anyone would ever get out of Larkin’s grip it was going to be her, she had her plans, soon they would hatch, but she needed to play along with him first, then she would strike him like a viper and watch his corpse rot.
‘Here we go Larkin’ she dialed his number hurriedly, part of her job was to give him monthly reports, but she’d failed to do so because she’d lost interest in the operation.
‘Hello sweet darling, I hope you’re calling to tell me about the money’ Larkin sounded hopeful.
‘Good evening boss’ Adaeze stuttered, she had not expected him to be that forward.
‘Evening, answer my question eh’? Larkin asked.
‘It would be here soon, just be patient with me, I’m working on something very big, trust me’ she replied.
‘Alright then, don’t fail, Larkin doesn’t accept failure, you know that’ he reminded her and brought the call to an end.
‘Phew’ she sighed, she had just bought herself more time, she loved Dayo very much, she wished everyday she wasn’t living a lie, she wished she could tell him the truth, but the truth never did any one good.
Her phone buzzed, she was reluctant to pick fearing Larkin had called her, but a second look revealed it was Emem.
‘My baby, how are you doing? I heard what you did to that bitch that tried to steal your man’ Adeaze cheered her on. Dayo had returned from Kay’s place with a sore look, definitely the girl was out of the picture.
‘There’s a problem Ada, they’ve found her’ Emem replied weakly, knowing the consequences that would befall her and her dreams of getting married to Kayode should the girl return to the picture.
‘What’s that? Are you okay’? Ada asked.
‘Moyo has been found, I don’t know how Kayode did it, but he’s rejoicing in his room right now, I think Dayo must have tipped him, just find out more for me’ Emem asked.
‘Sure, I’m heading straight to his room.
‘Pass me the knife’ Larkin ordered one of his boys; he sliced a piece of apple and threw it into his mouth.
‘Shantal is preparing the girl’ Abu informed the boss.
‘Good. Good, we’ll need someone to replace Adaeze, she’s acting up’ he threw another piece of apple into his mouth.
‘What makes you think that boss’? Abu asked. He’d met Larkin as a boy, homeless and poor, but Larkin changed all of that and took him like his own son, for that, he owed the man his all, his loyalty even his life.
‘We had a plan, the woman’s will stated the property should be divided once she was old enough to stand on her own, from the way Ada sounded, she may have second thoughts about this whole deal’ Larkin replied.
‘Boss, I doubt it, she wouldn’t dare, no one here can dare you especially after what befell Linda’ Abu scoffed. They’d done a lot of dirty work for Larkin and killing was the least of it, if Adaeze tried something funny, she’d end up dead or sold off to some demented rich man as a sex slave.
‘Go and find her Abu, tell her to come home, I need to see her face, I have not set eyes on her for three years, I need to look into her eyes, so I’d know if she’s still honest with us or she plans to betray us all. We cannot fail, this is the biggest operation we’ll ever do, so see to that’ he ordered.
‘I’ll do as you say’ Abu nodded.
‘Good, now tell Shantal to prepare the girl for proper introduction into our family, first, she needs to change her name, I don’t like ‘Moyo’, it’s too African for such a rare beauty, we’ll call her ‘Daria’ he smacked his lips together.
‘Okay boss’ Abu replied and stormed out of Larkin’s office.
‘No one would screw me, no one’ Larkin spoke to himself. It took him two years to cook up such a juicy plan, one that could land them all in jail should the police find him, it was time to reap the benefits, and no one could stop him.
Minutes later, Abu returned, he’d discovered something that would displease the boss greatly.
‘We have a little problem Boss’ Abu paused.
‘What is it’? Larkin swirled around at the urgency he sensed in Abu’s voice.
‘Moyo has been declared a missing person; we have to do something’ Abu said.
‘Bring her to me’ Larkin requested, he needed to work fast before she was traced to him.
