FORSAKEN
(Final Chapter)
CHAPTER 12

Aunty faith was seriously looking at the woman who was brought in, she walked closer to the her, the woman now was looking back at Aunty Faith in shock, then Aunty faith called her, Joy, she replied by calling back at Aunty Faith. They hugged each other uncontrollable tears rushing out of their eyes.

We stood and watched them. What are you doing here the woman asked my aunty. Well today is indeed great, your daughter is getting married, so she and her parents decided to visit this place with some items. We were all shocked. “my daughter getting married? Her parents?” I don’t understand, nothing is making sense.

Well aunty Faith replied, this is your daughter Jennifer (pointing at me) and her adopted parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius, and her sister Bianca. She was shocked, surprised and at the same time ashamed of herself. She just knelt down begging for forgiveness to no one in particular. I have forgotten I prayed to God to bring my mother before my big day, my heart was bursting in anger.

How dare she have me born when she wasn’t ready, why would she make me suffer the pains of being born by a loosed woman? How dare she abandoned me and how dare she ask for forgiveness just like that? As if it is as easy as she is making it sound, I thought within.

Daddy has really understand my kind of person, he knew what I was thinking. He came closer to me, remember your prayers my child, you begged God to make your mother present in your big day, are you going to be ungrateful not to appreciate him for answering your prayer? Remember grandma, FORGIVE.

The words fell on the rocks of my heart and melted away every anger I felt. I forgave my mom, I also knew life hadn’t been fair on her, she was looking really bad, I have forgiven you, I said to her. We hugged each other for some minutes without letting go of the other. It took dad’s intervention before we could let go of each other. Mom followed us home, she had a nice bath and good meal, which according to her hadn’t done that in a long while. Mom gave her some clothes that could fit her, mother and aunty faith went home the next two days since she had to buy some clothes and make her hair the following day.

Wonders they say shall never cease, three days after we all arrived Benin, a man came and claimed he is my father, I asked mother how true, and she said indeed I am his, the resemblance was convincing everyone said. The same man who had rejected me twenty three years ago is coming to claim me as his daughter.

I looked at him in disdain; he is the architect of everything I went through. If he hadn’t denied me that day when mother took me to his house, even though everyone had said ‘she is your child, she looks so much like you’, my mother would not had abandoned me out of shame, and maybe he and mother would have ended up together and I would have had a good family and siblings like every other child.

So because you heard I am somebody now, or that am getting married, you just came out of nowhere to claim me as your child? You are not my father, the only father I thought I had, denied his responsibility to me years ago, but now I have another father, so I don’t need you. He held my clothes and begged profusely, I could see the repentance in his eyes, but my heart was heavy.

My life is just like a movie, I said within me. Mother joined him to apologize, if you could forgive me my child, you can forgive him too. Please forgive us, she said. I looked at both of them standing face to face with both my biological parent, not even in my wildest imagination had I thought it would happen.

I opened my heart and hands and forgave them. Right then after I forgave him, father knelt and asked in the presence of everyone that mother should marry him.

He said, I have disgraced you publicly, by denying you and our child, so I beg you today publicly also, “will you marry me?” Mother was too shocked to say a word, father continued, it’s not too late, let’s be parents to our child who had suffered so much from our mistakes, together lets carry our grandchildren from her. Everyone applauded and I asked mother to say yes, and she happily said “yes”. We later learnt father was once married, but the marriage hit the rock, mother on the other hand had also been so unlucky with men. Indeed there is something called “DESTINY” as mother and father after so many years and all the difficulties still ended up as man and wife.

Mother and father had a small traditional marriage. It was family and very few friends. My wedding was like a celebrity wedding, it was simply wonderful, life was perfect and Gods plan for my life was bright indeed. I had my grandpa and my adopted parents, my biological parents, my angel of a sister, aunty and of course Alex on my wedding day. My only regret was that grandma wasn’t there, but I know anywhere she is, she is so proud of all of us.

I, THE ABANDONED CHILD, THE VICTIM HAD BECOME THE VICTOR AND WHITE SHEEP OF THE FAMILY...
