FORSAKEN
CHAPTER 7

Samuel quickly called a taxi and rushed Silas to a nearby hospital. In less than 10minutes after Samuel and Silas had gone to the hospital , Mr. Ebe came and saw the house in a mess.

There was blood on the sitting room floor. He was furious and asked what happened. I was confused as to what to tell him. He shouted at me and asked again what had happened. It… it…. It was Silas, I stuttered, Silas? Who is Silas? He asked. At this point, I could hear my heart beating fast Si…….Si….. Silas is Madam’s friend, he tried to rape me, so I hit him. Samuel took him to the hospital. Mr. Ebe was confused and lost in thought.I sat at a corner thinking what could have happened to Silas, and how Mrs. Ebe would react when she hears I told her husband about Silas. While lost in thought, I heard Mrs. Ebe shouting. Where is that thief? Where is that prostitute? How dare she?, I would deal with her, when she came closer to me, she landed a hot slap on my cheek, insulting and calling me at sort of names. At this point Mr. Ebe came out in anger and asked her who Silas was.

She told him Silas is the man she buys jewelries from. She had asked him to bring her some jewelries. When he came, he saw Jennifer trying to steal some jewelries and some cash, as he tried to stop her. This evil girl used the flower vase to hit his head. I have always complained that my money, jewelries and some other valuables been missing. I stood hopelessly confused. How can someone just make this kind of allegation up now, I didn’t know between Mrs. Ebe or Silas who could have formulated this. I couldn’t speak, nor defend myself. Mr. Ebe became very angry at me, I hate thieves, especially ladies who steal so you were about running off with my wife’s jewelries and valuables, and worse with my hard earned money. I will deal with you. I would make sure you end up in police custody. He locked the gate and placed a call through to the police.

Two hours later, the police came and I was handed over to them. I was too shocked to speak. I the victim had become the accused. I didn’t say a word, but my heart was bleeding. Different thought ran through my mind. I just wished I wasn’t born, it seems like the world was against me. As the police took me in their van to the station, I thought about my life. Why does it seem nothing I do is ever enough, I wondered aloud. At home my grandpa accuses and mistreat me over a crime I know nothing about. Everywhere I go, I always end up being the victim. Now I am paying for the sins of Mrs. Ebe and Silas.

While I was lost in thought, I heard granny’s voice echoes in my ears. “My child of destiny, be strong, keep faith alive and always forgive those who offend you even before they ask” just then, I smiled and thanked God for my future. I forgave Mrs. Ebe and Silas, from my heart.

I was placed in the female cell with others. It was a painful experience, the girls there weren’t friendly at all, and the mosquitoes feasted on us all night. The next day, I begged a police officer to help put a call through to Mirabel, but unfortunately, her number wasn’t connecting. I had no other person in Lagos and of course I had been disowned by my family. I accepted my fate and prayed, because it would take only a miracle to get me out.
