? EPISODE 8

Mum, how are you doing?”. Steve asked his mom who was in the kitchen making dinner, Abigail was yet to return from work.
“I’m fine son, I know you are hungry, don’t worry, food will soon be ready. I notice you eat your food to the last drop of it nowadays, unlike you. You hardly finish your food, you eat as if the food disappears from the plate”. Steve’s mom said smiling.

Steve returned the smile hysterically. “I’m actually hungry mum, but that’s not why I’m here”. He spoke softly, with his head bent towards the ground. Not looking at his mother’s face.
“What troubles you my son?”. She drying her wet hands with a hand towel and made to move close to Steve, but he quickly reacted.
“Don’t come close mom, I will tell you everything”. He said apprehensively, refusing her to come any further. Even when she insisted, he refused telling her to respect his decision. “Please mom, just respect my decision, I have a reason for not allowing you come close to me”. His mom stepped back and asked him to say what it was that troubles him.
“I am surprised at some of your recent behavior, you act very strange sometimes since you and Sonia returned from your journey”. She said, while she continued with what she was doing.
“Mum”. Steve called. “Yes son”. She answered.
“What is the saddest word you’ve ever heard?”. He asked, still looking down.
“Why ain’t you looking at me Steve? This is unlike you son”. She looked more worried this time.
“Just answer me mum, what is the saddest word you’ve ever heard and wish not to hear?”. He asked again.

If answering your question will make you look at me and tell me what is troubling you, then I will answer”. She said turning around to face him very well. “The saddest word I’ve ever heard and wish not to hear again is goodbye from a loved one. It was really the saddest moment of my life when your dad said his final goodbye to me, I wish not to hear any such word again from someone I love. Now tell me Steve, why the question?”. She asked.

“Mom, life is full of mystery and things happen to those we expect them not to happen to. Most times, the things we fear most befall us. Can I ask you one more question mom?”. Steve said in the most tender voice.
“Ask, but you are scaring me with your words”. She said nervously.
“What if you hear goodbye from someone you love, someone so dear to your heart what will you do?”.
“Please Steve, I wish not to answer any of these your questions again. I am not going to say goodbye to anyone untimely again. Not you, not Abigail and not Eric your brother. If you don’t have anything important to ask, just let me concentrate on my cooking”. She answered him angrily.
“Mom, whatever it is that happens during and after my wedding with Sonia, remember my words this day. Stay strong for Eric and Abigail, they will give you the joy and comfort you need in life. It will be sad for you to hear me say goodbye to you and my siblings, but….”. That was the last thing he said as she jumped up from her sleep.
“Oh! It’s a dream, looked so real”. She said as she stretched herself. “But I don’t understand this dream, I really have step up in my prayers. Certain things shouldn’t be taken for granted. This seemed more than just a dream, it was so real”. She Said to herself, as she knelt down to pray.

The next morning, she went to wake everyone up for morning devotion. Eric and Abigail came out for prayers, but Steve was not in his room.
“Did any of you see Steve this morning?” Mother asked.
“No mum, you just woke me up. I’ve not been out of my room this morning”. Replied Eric and Abigail said similar thing.
“Where on earth could he have gone this early? And he didn’t tell anyone he was leaving. Anyway, I had a bad dream last night and I want us to pray together as a family”. She told them her dream, both Eric and Abigail expressed shock. When she was done narrating her dream to them, they all prayed as a family holding their hands together.

– Sonia’s House –

“Wake up, go and call your sister”. Sonia’s mom told Henry as she tapped him on his left hand. “It is time for morning devotion”. She said, then Henry got up, went to Sonia’s room, but she wasn’t there.
“Mum, Sonia is not in her room”. Henry told his mom, who was seated in the sitting room waiting for them to come.
“How do you mean? It is too early for her to have gone out”. She said as she went round the house and compound, but there was no trace of her (SONIA). She got back inside and prayed with Henry, holding hands together in unison.
After prayers, she called Sonia’s number and she answered with her voice heard clearly coming from her room. Mom and Henry expressed shock. She walked to her room and met her lying down.
“Where have you been Sonia, we’ve looked everywhere for you?”.
“I’ve been here mom”.
“You were not, Henry was here to call you for morning devotion and didn’t see you”. Said her mom.
“Mom, he didn’t search well, I was using the toilet. I’ve been having running stomach since last night”. Answered Sonia.
“Have you had some medication?”. Mom asked.
“Yes I have mom”. She answered.
“Okay, go back to sleep. Make sure you take good care of yourself, and remember we shall be praying together as a family henceforth. We stopped long ago and it is not good for us, the Bible told us that “a family that prays together, stays together”.
“Okay mom, let me have some rest”. She answered coldly.
