? HATRED ON A GIRL CHILD ?

EPISODE 9

I was chewing the cud when the doctor opened up that I was a month pregnant. "Doctor tell me you're joking" I said in bewilderment.

"No! I didn't give a tongue-in-cheek – I am serious..." the doctor replied.

Words failed me and I kept staring at the doctor as I was subjected to stupefaction.

The doctor felt uncomfortable because that was a great news for him but I found it depressing and odious.

"Mrs Ben,you should be delighted; Favour has been locked in the vault of the Grim Reaper" The doctor verbalized thoughtfully.

"We'll help you with the hospital ambulance so that the deceased would be taken to the graveyard "he added and absconded.

It was really a crying shame; due to the fact that Mama would be disappointed if she did not see her grandchild's corpse.

Although, she had been calling, I haven't told her what was happening and she was unaware of Favour's departure.

I kept meditating pensively on what to tell Mama "Should I tell her that Kaima,my cousin who had no child, came and took her? or Should I tell her the truth?".

"Telling her that Favour was with my cousin would be a flight of fancy– it is imaginative but not at all sensible. This is harebrained idea,
I will tell her the truth" I said in my mind.

Instantly,I moved into the doctor's office "Doctor, your suggestion is quite good but unfortunately,I have wasted all my money on hospital bills" I spoke with a soft voice.

"Don't worry Mrs Ben,I know your present condition and you won't be charged anymore" the doctor uttered

I was sadly happy to the doctor's positive response" Thank you so much Doctor,God bless you" I thanked him with my face grim not wry grim though.

Immediately,I called the resident pastor in the church we were attending, narrated to him everything that had transpired and pleaded with him to come so that the guiltless toddler would rest in peace.

The pastor didn't decline and promised to be in the hospital in the next thirty minutes.

When I was waiting for the pastor, the kind-hearted nurses came and wanted to converse with me.

I was like a Yes Man as I was uttering yes to what ever they said.

They thought I was following because I was smiling broadly not knowing that inside,I was lonely as a stone in the depth of a lake.

Luckily, the pastor arrived .The doctor called the driver who took us to the cemetery.

When we got to the God's acre, I saw thousands of tombs and my blood ran cold.
The voice of Lumpkin, the crying bird echoed in the graveyard.

Its voice sounded so shaky and wobbly. My heart thumped into my stomach when two able bodied men started digging the grave.

Favour's look was much lively. She did not look like a déad person. Her round face was still fresh with her tick eyebrows.

The grave was dug wholly by the men in a blink of an eye. The pastor ordered them to open the little coffin and they did as instructed.

"Favour,my beloved daughter,I know you're the one that supposed to bury me hereafter but unfortunately the Grim Reaper said otherwise. It was quite unfortunate, you had a bad father and I am to be blamed for your déath. Rest on my love,I know Ben will surely regret this" I blubbered with my cheeks full of1 tears.

The pastor then ordered the two men to deep down the little coffin in the grave. They did as they were instructed.

My heart sank inside my belly when the pastor said the last prayer.

Forthwith,they buried my child.

I was cheesed off and felt like eating someone alive. It was already 12 noon and I entered the house secretly.

Ben who doesn't stay a day off work except weekends was at home cuddling his new wife who said that she had been put in a family way.

My heart raced because I did not know my so-called husband was having an affair before he finally revealed it few days ago
