My lying husband
PARTELEVEN
Gbenga is not from any royal family. Infact, his father is late and his mum is a cassava farmer
who also fry and sell garri in the village. He is from one remote village in Ogun state. He claimed
he was a graduate of University of Ilorin but Gbenga never went to school more than a
certificate course he did with a private institution affiliated with Unilag. The cars he brought to
my place were all cars belonging to customers who came to wash their cars in the carwash.
Mr. Lekan told us he knew Gbenga will land in trouble one day because of his high taste and
pretentious lifestyle. Mr. Lekan was the one who brought Gbenga from the village to Lagos to
help his mother reduce the burden on her after they lost their father. Gbenga had also
impregnated two other ladies whom he also lied to before he did same to me. The first lady,
Morenike had a baby girl for him and the girl is already four years old. The second lady, Ajayi
died during child birth, but she also had a baby girl for him. I am the third girl he impregnated.
Morenike's family vowed their daughter will not marry a wretched man like Gbenga. They took
her baby and sent her back to school. In his neighborhood, Gbenga made them believed he was
working in a big multinational company, hence he will leave home dressed like a corporate
worker. He could no longer tell them lies in the carwash again because he has been caught red
handed severally. The people in the carwash and environs knew him very well that he was
nicknamed, "The Manager". For three hours, we were there as his boss told us more about him.I
was dumbfounded and perplexed at there relations.
But how did I fall victim of all his lies? How could someone who didn't go to school play smart
on me this way?Adaora and Blessing too were confused at the whole drama. Someone that
was once taken as a prince turned out to be a mere carwasher and a son of a poor widow. How
did I get myself into this mess?but how would I have known he was a clone? I was suspicious of his pseudo identity but my lust for riches blinded my mind of judgement. The poverty I was
running from had eventually caught up with me and overtakenme.
His boss assured me Gbenga won't go away with it this time around. He collected my dad's
number and put a call through to him right in our presence. He also called Gbenga's mother and
right there he sealed up the deal. I will be moving in with Gbenga in his one room apartment. He
will take responsibility for the pregnancy, the baby and myself. A meeting was scheduled
between my people and his people and without any ceremony I became Gbenga's wife.
