Chapter 11

I was discharged the following week and I immediately started with the divorce process. I had to take the papers to Nelson in prison. He sincerely apologized for everything that he had done to me. I forgave him and hoped he'd change once he completes his sentence. I moved out of his house and moved in with Gina temporarily.

Samuel was pestering me with marriage since I left the hospital but I wasn't ready for another one when I barely left one alive. Even though I knew Samuel to be a good man, I didn't want to rush things. He even proposed an idea that Alex and I should move in with him. But I wasn't his responsibility so I didn't want to burden him or give him the impression that I was going to marry him anytime soon.

Two months later, I came home and found the house empty. I wondered where Gina had gone to. I switched on the light and nearly died from shock " Surprise!!!!!" They all said. I stood there with my lips forming an "O" and my palm on my chest. It was Gina, Samuel, Alex and some few neighbors. I smiled as they started singing the birthday song. I didn't even remember that it was my birthday. As I was recovering from the surprise and emotional display, Samuel knelt down in front of me with a ring in his hand. I looked around and saw everyone looking at us and my cheeks burned from embarrassment. "My dear Cynthia, for the second time in our lives, I ask, will you marry me?" He asked looking right into my eyes. No matter how many times I deceive myself, I really needed this man in my life. I looked at the others and they were all mouthing, "say yes". "Yes" I answered. He quickly put the ring on my finger and hugged me tightly.

We got married few months later and moved to the states with our son. Life after that wasn't so bad. Life is full of struggles though. But being in a *pool of struggles* shouldn't be anyone's portion.

The End.
