THE EXCURSION. Part 6.

No water to wash or cool off, my throat was as dried as a desert sand.

Everyone was thirsty and famished.

Money became useless in the absence of food.

Everyone alighted from the bus and slept on the bare floor in the fueling station.

Amaka sat beside me and patted my back. I didn't sense it as being caring but only fighting for her own security.

I might be wrong sha but I didn't feel any drop affection in me because all I wanted was to go back to my concoction life and GPA in school.

It was dark, no car, no bus, nothing.

The only sound we heard was the sound of cricket and the buzzing of moths.

It was more than an hour, the driver did not wake up, we approached him to wake him but he wasn't responding.

We shook him but nothing.

"Is he dead?" Someone asked.

"God forbid, someone should wake him now" another Lady yelled.

"Bring him out of the bus for fresh air.

He was carried out and his clothe was torn apart for air, no water to pour on him, no medication.

"Please check his pulse and heartbeat" another one said.

Everyone that was tired jumped up while others concluded that the driver is dead.

" what are we going to do now? Please wake him up" people started yelling while others were crying.

Hours of effort trying to resuscitation went futile.

His pulse was beating slowly, no one knows what to do.

We gave up on trying to revive him, he was laid down and people were already weeping and trying to make calls.

Did I remember to say only one person's phone was on because she came with her power bank, all phones dead.

We tried making calls but the network was not on our sides.

In the middle of no where, we suffered anxiety attack, emotional attack, mental attack and psychological attack.

Now we just sent this old man to his grave with our nonsense excursion, we shouldn't have allowed him to sleep.

But what if he sleeps off while driving and led the bus into the lagoon as he said earlier.

At that point, nothing matters to me anymore, the only prayer I had left in me is that if anything is going to happen to us, they should find our bodies on time and in one piece.

My white Police designer shirt had turned brown, my trouser drops from my waist despite the tight belt, I was hungry to the bone.

The night had months in it, it was as if the day would never break.

It was a night of no mercy.

I thought we had tampered with nature.

To be continued...
