THE EXCURSION. Part 7

It was becoming a tragic and regrettable journey.

42 lives at risk of anything, one down.

No help, no one can drive the long bus.

Few minutes later, we saw a glimpse of light from afar, it got bigger and closer every minute. We realise it was the front light of vehicles
.

Many of them, moving at high speed.

Everyone jumped up and lined beside the road and started shouting before they got closer.

"Help! Help!! Help!!!"

We shouted with our hands in the air.

These vehicles which looked like a military van zoomed off while two jeep followed then another military van followed.

They looked like an escort to a military personnel.

They zoomed off without a step on the break, they didn't stop.

"Who would want to stop and help people at this time of the night in the middle of no where, what if they think we want to lay ambush or rob them" I thought.

It was the dead end for everyone. We sat in a place and carry out head count every 10 minutes to make sure no one is missing.

Everyone had turned to a total mess of what an animal shouldn't be, hunger and thirst were dealing with us mercilessly.

Suddenly, we heard footsteps around us and a voice came amidst it.

"Everybody hands up! don't move, if you move I will blow off your head, put your hands up!" One of them exclaimed.

We fidget as we obey their orders. They scooped out of the bush with their guns aiming at us.

They were soldiers

"Please don't shoot, we are students please, don't shoot please" one of us exclaimed.

"Students? What are you doing here at this time of the night?" One of the quizzed.

"We got stranded and our driver is in a critical condition, please help us" we cried.

They lowered their guns and a man that appeared to be their boss came to us. He stared at us and felt worried. He saw the body of our driver where he was laid.

"Check him" he ordered one of his men. He rushed to where he was laid and examined him.

" he is alive sir" he said.

"Lift him into the van and take him to the barrack's hospital, board the ladies into the van and come back for the boys." He said and headed back into one of the jeeps that later came to park in front of us.

Our driver was lifted into their van and some ladies rushed in with them, the van couldn't contain all of them.

"We have the key to our bus sir, can one of you drive it" the social director inquired but they refused because they were not yet sure who we really are.

Others waited behind.

Three soldiers stayed with the rest of us while the van zoomed off.

It was a relief.

"I prayed the driver is alive" I prayed.
