Part Four

I couldn't stand the way the spirit was grinning at me. It seems as if he was drawing out my life energy. I was choice less at that moment, all I could think of was to carry out what I've been planning.

So I left him there and started running to my parent's room. I have made up my mind to inform my Dad about the spirit and I planned to inform him that midnight so that he will be able to see the spirit himself.

I got to their room and their room and saw my Dad awake. I guess he was praying. So, seeing him awake makes me more confused. I could fathom the reason why he couldn't hear the banshee's scream.

I ran over to where he knelt down praying and quickly tapped him. I didn't say anything, I just gestured to him to follow me. He saw the way I was shaking, so he stood up and followed me instantly. I started tip toeing to parlour.

What I saw when I got to parlour was unexplainable and funny. The TV was on and the DSTV station was showing the best channel I love most. What surprised me most was that the banshee was on TV smiling at me.

So, there's no way I will explain to my Dad that I didn't switched on the TV and how will I explain that what I want to show is the creature on TV. I lost the courage and confident to narrate what had to him.

"So, what is it that you want to show me?". He said while yawning at the same time.

"Eehhm ehm, nothing sir"

"What do you mean by nothing?,so you disturbed me and forced me here just to see nothing?".

"I'm sorry sir" I said with a pitiful expression.

He left me there and went back to see his room. Then I sat on the chair thinking about what will be found dead in the morning. I dozed off some minutes later.

I was woken up the next day by the eagerness to know what will happen the next day. I stood up immediately and ran to my brother's room. He was still lying on bed when I entered his room.

I quickly moved closer to him to check him if he is asleep or dead. I shakes him and beat his cheek. He reciprocated the touch by yawning and changing his sleeping position.

I was relieved and happy to see my brother still alive. I stood up and started walking towards the door. I didn't even noticed my brother's dog that was sleeping at the entrance until I stepped on him. I hissed and went out angrily.

When my brother woke up the next morning, he ran to my room panting and crying at the same time. "Come and see, come" he said and ran out immediately. I followed him outside and he showed me the corpse of his dog. The body was at the spot where the tree always disappears and appears to.

That moment, I realized that the Spirit takes the life of something more closer. I started unraveling the mystery myself. The spirit's only way to our compound was through the tree and he takes the life of creature closer to him. That's why he killed the dog lying at the entrance of the door instead of killing my brother, that's why he didn't enter three days ago and killed my pig outside.

Then I thought of temporal solution to the problem. I decided to buy more chickens and placed them near the tree so that he can be killing them one by one until I finds a permanent solution to the problem.

So, I went out that day and bought five chickens. I put them in our abandoned cage and placed it right at the entrance of the house. I tried to convince my parents that the chickens are for my upcoming birthday, I told them "I bought them so that we won't be worrying about meat". They both believed me.

The night came and I slept at the slept off as usual, but I didn't sleep inside my room this time, I slept on the sofa in the parlour. I wanted to confirm if my hypothesis is real, I wanted to confirm if the spirit will still enter the house tonight.

I was woken up by the scream. More louder than yesternight and as yesterday and the day before, it was only me that heard the screams.

I started looking around for something unusual. For ten minutes, I didn't see anything. I started beaming with smile that I was right. I was really happy that the spirit won't enter. Then I saw the door opening slowly with a force of wind.

Then the spirit entered and went directly into my brother's room.
