The HEADIES Award.
The Nigeria’s biggest and most prestigious music award, continuously thrives to recognize outstanding and laudable achievements in the Nigerian Music Industry. At the HEADIES, there lots of award categories that recognize different works and endeavors of music artistes. One of such awards is the highly competitive is NEXT RATED category.
Here’s a run through the list of those who have won the Next Rated Award from 2006 to date.
On the 10th of March, 2006 at the Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos, where the Headies first took place, ASA won the Next Rated category with a cash prize.
On the 17th of March, 2007, Overdose won the Next Rated.
On the 15th of March, 2008 at Planet One, Maryland, Lagos, the Next Rated winner was Wande Coal and this time the “brand new car tradition” debuted.
On May 16, 2009, at the Abuja International Conference Centre, the first time the Headies was taken outside Lagos, Omawumi won the Next Rated category and got a brand new car as well.
On the 29th of May, 2010, the duo – Skuki won the Next Rated category with a new car.
On the 22nd of October, 2011, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, the name – HIP HOP WORLD AWARDS was officially revamped to “The Headies”, a name derived from “HEADIE”, the name for the 21 carat gold-plated Hip Hop World Awards Plaque. On that same day in 2011, Star Boy Wizkid got the Next Rated Award. This fetched him a brand new 2012 Hyundai Sonata.
In 2012, the HEADIES held on the 20th of October at the Eko Hotel and Suites, where DavidO was announced winner of the Next Rated with a brand new car for it.
The 2013 edition of The Headies was on the 26th of October at Oriental Hotel where Sean Tizzle took the Next Rated award alongside his car prize.
In 2014, the Headies went back to Eko Hotels and Suites on December 14. This year, Patoranking won the Awards amongst other contenders as Yemi Alade, Skales, Runtown and Orezi.
Now, 2015 is here and votes are on-going for the race of who will be crowned the Next Rated Artiste in 2015.
Will it be Cynthia Morgan, Kiss Daniel, Korede Bello, Lil’ Kesh or Reekado Banks ?
