1: Red wine produces
anticlotting action i.e it lowers
the levels of protein fribrinogen
(A protein present in blood
plasma; converts to fibrin when
blood clots) which promotes
blood clot formation.
2: Red wine reduces the risk of
kidney stone formation.
3: It has a heart protective effect
i.e moderate intake helps prevent
against coronary heart disease
by reducing the production of
Low Density Lipoprotien (LDL)
cholesterol and boosting High
Density Lipoprotein (HDL).
4: Red wine prevents the
initiation and progression of
atherosclerosis (A stage of
arteriosclerosis involving fatty
deposits (atheromas) inside the
arterial walls, thus narrowing the
arteries/ hardening of the
arteries). This occurs when blood
vessels begin to lose their ability
to relax. Both the alcohol and
polyphenol in the red wine
promotes formation of nitric
oxide (NO) which is a key
chemical relaxing factor in
regulation of vascular tone.
