Stress can change the size of your brain(and make it smaller)
I bet you didn't know that stress can actually Change the size of your brain.
Its commonly the most cause of changes in the brain function.
I also found some research that showed signs of through the brain size decreases due to stress
--One study used baby monkeys to test the effects of stress on development and long-term mental health. Half monkeys where cared for by their peers for 6 months while the other half with their mothers.
Afterwards the monkeys were returned to typical social group for several months before the researches scanned their brains for monkeys who had been removed from their mothers and cared by their peers, areas of their brains related to stress where still enlarged, even after being in social conditions for several months.
Another study found out that in rats who were exposed to chronic stress, the hippocampus in their brains actually shrank. ''The hippocampus is integral to forming memories''.
It has been debated before whether Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can actually shrink the hippocampus,or people with natural smaller hippocampus are just more prone to PTSD.
This study could point to the stress being a factor in actually changing the brain.
