AKARA (BEANS CAKE): A fried bean ball made from a washed, peeled beans rich in protein.
Ingredient: beans(picked), onions, fresh pepper/ground dried pepper, warm water, oil (for frying), salt to taste.
Steps Involved: soak beans for about 5 minutes ,wash thoroughly and peel off the skin. After that has been done,grind until smooth.
Note:It shouldn’t be too watery, it should form a thick smooth paste. The fresh pepper can also be grinder or chopped finely into the mixture. Then the mixture is now poured into a large bowl seasoned with salt and beat in the warm water to make it light, fold in the sliced onions mixing with a metal spoon letting out the air which has been beaten into the mixture. Heat the oil, use a deep spoon to add in the bean paste into the hot oil and fry both sides until it appears golden brown. Use a perforated spoon to take out the fried beans cake, place inside a colander then later place on a kitchen paper to drain the excess oil. Serve with bread, pap etc.
