•••••••••••••••• episode 1•••••••••••••••••••

Tyrihad's love for Trisla had become
unbecoming lately. Everything, from the court
room sessions to the nights standing at the
balcony, Tyrihad's world revolved around
watching her smile, laugh, and play with her
hair while she looked like the most beautiful
girl, he had ever set eyes on. Trisla had a
hold on his heart and the thought of their love
never coming to life, made Tyrihad grow mad
every second.
'Loving the wife of your King is not an
honorable task but honor and love are not
synonymous terms.'
Tyrihad could take it no more. The day of the
Grand Festival was the day after and the
whole kingdom was invited. Trisla seemed
more pleased than ever. She was happier than
most of the days. In her happiness, Tyrihad
seemed to forget all his worries and divulge in
inventing merriments for her. Her happiness
seemed more important to Tyrihad at this
point than the mere idea of someone stealing
the universe's greatest power from him.
Tyrihad had finally decided to confess his
love to Trisla on the eve of the Grand Festival.
"Tyrihad has gone mad in the love of the
Queen." Lincoln laughed.
"I hate to agree but you are right. He is no
match for us." Frederick laughed too.
"Tomorrow is the day, Fred."
"Yes, tomorrow is the day- the day of the
Grand Festival.
Let the Game of Roses begin." Frederick
laughed a devilish laugh.
The day of the Grand Festival had arrived. The
three suns shone brightly, rejuvenating the
spirit of festivity. Men from far and wide came
in their carriages, laden with gold and
ornaments unknown. Nobles and their wives,
peasants and slaves all celebrated the festival
alike. The lovers kissed under the lamps and
the kids danced around. A grand feast and
food for all was available.
Tyrihad wandered about his room, up and
down, a rose in his hand, practicing the
perfect way to let Trisla know how he felt.
Frederick and Lincoln had just arrived in the
palace disguised as rich merchants, their
carriages laden with gold that sorcery had
brought forth. Frederick bustled through the
crowd as his eyes fell on the key to getting
the Book from Tyrihad- Trisla.
The music continued as the footsteps
descended down into the dance hall. Tyrihad,
carrying the rose in one hand and a smile on
his face descended into the hall, his eyes fixed
on the radiant Queen. She was dressed in a
golden robe and her tresses hung like a dark
cascade. The day had finally come.
Tyrihad continued walking towards the angelic
Queen, one step at a time and everything else
seemed to vanish, and the music wasn't heard
nor was the crowd seen. Everything seemed to
come to a standstill as Tyrihad walked
towards his Queen, a rose in his hand, ready
to confess his love.
"Trisla, how have you been?" Tyrihad's voice
shook as he spoke to her.
"I have been quite pleasant my lord. How are
you?"
"Trisla I need to talk to you."
"Surely, my lord."
"In private." Tyrihad was solemn.
Trisla obeyed him and they both walked away
together.
"What do we do now, Fred?" Lincoln was
getting impatient.
"We wait. Everything is going just the way it
should." Frederick smiled.
"But they are getting away." Lincoln argued.
"Let them." Frederick's smile had something
hidden.
Meanwhile, in some lonely corner of the
palace, Tyrihad held Trisla by her waist,
pulling her towards him.
"What are you doing Tyrihad?" Trisla
struggled to get away.
"Trisla, I love you and I know that it might
seem wrong but I have fallen in a kind of love
that I cannot battle with.
I am sorry I just needed to let it out. I needed
to tell you that I am in love with you and I am
a man who never believed in love, until I saw
you." Tyrihad bent down on his knee, a rose in
his hand.
Trisla had tears in her eyes, unable to fathom
what had conspired in the past few second. In
her heart, she had never seen love. All she
saw was lust for her body in the eyes of men
all around but this- right now, in the eyes of
Tyrihad- it was something she had never felt
before. It just seemed right.
"Tyrihad, I am your Queen. It is wrong." She
sobbed, fighting against all her desires.
"Nothing is wrong, when it comes to love,
Trisla. I will protect you forever." Tyrihad held
her hand.
And they both enveloped into a heavenly
embrace, under the light of the three suns,
coming through the chamber window, lighting
up the figures of two people deeply in love.
Tyrihad pulled back, wiping away her tears,
getting back on his knees and holding out the
rose once again.
Tyrihad smiled to himself as he finally
understood the meaning of the lines in the
Book-
"Light of love shall shine upon you.
The rose has thorns, so farewell adieu."
"Will you be mine, forever?" Tyrihad asked.
Trisla nodded in agreement and accepted the
rose.
"The Game of Roses has begun." Frederick
clapped his hands and they both disappeared
in a thin mist, straight to the chamber where
Trisla and Tyrihad stood.
Blood drops trickled down Trisla's hand and
her face grew pale. She fell down like a corpse
while Frederick and Lincoln appeared behind
her from mist.
"The rose has thorns, so farewell adieu."
Frederick recited.
"When swords are forged with magic, steel is
no match.
The things that Tyrihad loses, the devils shall
catch.
The secret of Book shall be revealed.
The devils in the shadows try to steal."
Frederick continued reciting verses from
Tyrihad's book.
"You were expecting us, weren't you?
Finally, we are here." Lincoln laughed.
"And you shall hand us the book or see your
beloved Trisla die." Frederick kicked Trisla's
lifeless body.
"You bastards." Tyrihad reached for his sword.
"Are you looking for this?" Frederick took out
Tyrihad's sword from his back.
"I think you do not realize our powers Tyrihad.
We are not some lowly nobles who you can
fool.
We are sorcerers, the Guardians of the Realms
and you have the Book which belongs to us.
Now we know everything about you, even
before you do it. We know that you thought
that you could defeat us and had an
elaborate plan but you see- When you fight an
enemy and you know his next move, it is a
battle that you have already won.
So now, if you want to see Trisla alive, you go
and get us the Book." Frederick threatened
Tyrihad.
Tyrihad stood powerless, thinking what to do
next.

★★★★★★★★ episode 2★★★★★★★★ "Move fast and get us the book. We do not have much time." Lincoln shouted. Tyrihad stood still, like a man frozen with fear. "You cannot do anything now, Tyrihad. It is useless to waste time in thinking of ways to fool us. Just go and get the Book. Our little game is over." Frederick said calmly. A tear rolled down Tyrihad's cheeks. He had always thought that things were in control. He kept account of each second so that he doesn't miss seeing the faces of the two men. But right now, he was powerless, and all because of a petty magic rose. "How did you cast a spell on the exact rose I picked up?" Tyrihad tried to buy some time. "I am not one of the normal sorcerers like the ones you see for your amusement, the ones who hide a coin in their sleeve and term trickery as magic. I am the disciple of Kjahal and all I needed was to watch you descend down the stairways with a rose in your hand, and cast a spell on your wretched love." Frederick laughed. "You will die, you wicked spell caster." Tyrihad thumped the ground. "Surely, I will, but not today." Frederick smiled. "Now go and bring the Book. We do not have the whole day and neither does your beloved Trisla." Lincoln laughed. There seemed to be no other option. Tyrihad could think of nothing to avert the situation. He had to give the Book. Trisla's life was far more important than any power. Tyrihad turned back in despair and started walking towards the drawer that held the Book. Each step seemed heavier than the last. His heart raced and his mind tried to think of a frailest possibility of not giving away the Book. Suddenly, he stopped in his path, and turned back, a smile plastered on his face. "You can kill Trisla." The words escaped his mouth. Frederick grew pale, shooting a glance at Lincoln who stood calm as ever, smiling to himself. "So you want to play games, Tyrihad?" Lincoln smiled. "You might consider yourself very clever, reading all those fancy books about statecraft and diplomatic problems of all the realms. You might think that you can outwit us with your petty games making us think that you do not care about Trisla's life. But we know you better than you know yourself. We can cut every shred of your life, tarnishing you piece by piece. Do you think that you are a noble, righteous man? You are nothing. You are a mere puppet, working at the whims of an evil Book. So you can play your games throughout the day, trying to save your precious power and let Trisla die or you can give us the Book and live happily ever after. The choice is yours." Lincoln said angrily. "You heard me. Trisla can die." Tyrihad's face was solemn. "Well then, as you say." Frederick pulled out Tyrihad's sword and stood right on Trisla's body. "You have a last chance to give us the Book." Lincoln warned Tyrihad. "Before you put the sword through her body, let me ask you something. What happens with you two once you kill her? You do not get the Book which was your only motive and you kill the love of the man with the greatest power in the universe. It doesn't sound very pleasing." Tyrihad laughed. "Tyrihad, you don't get us, do you? A man is most dangerous when he is at verge of death because he will do anything to stay alive. But the thing most people do not acknowledge is that a dying man will do anything- even things that are wrong, even things that are evil, even things that he shouldn't do. But we are not men who fear death. We welcome death. We fight with death every second of our lives. So you see, we are not the most dangerous men you will meet but we are surely the most righteous and you cannot scare us into taking wrong decisions to save something as petty as a few breaths." Lincoln replied. "So we stand at a cross road again." Tyrihad smiled. "There is no fucking cross road. We kill Trisla and you can keep the god forsaken Book and let it kill you." Frederick raised the sword in the air. "Stop!" Tyrihad shrieked. "You can have the Book." Tyrihad gave up. He reached for the drawer, taking out the book wrapped in a violet cloth. "Here it is but you need to restore Trisla's life first." Tyrihad stepped back. Frederick casted a spell on Trisla's lifeless body and her paralyzed body seemed to move. Lincoln pulled her up by her hair, putting the sword at her neck. "Hand over the Book." Frederick instructed. "Can I make a final entry?" Tyrihad asked. "Do we look like fools to you?" Lincoln moved the sword to threaten him. "I want to write my own death." Tyrihad begged. "What?" Both of the looked puzzled. "Yes. I want to work out a deal. I need to write my own life and my own death." "We cannot allow that." Lincoln barked. "Wait Lincoln. If he writes his own death, the power of the book ends, right now and our work here is done, isn't it?" Frederick spoke. "Yes, that is right but Frederick..." "Let him do it then." Fredrick cut Lincoln off and walked up to Tyrihad. "You will write in front of me." Frederick stood near Tyrihad. Tyrihad cut open his wrist, and with the blood that trickled out, wrote on the paper- "Today, I make with the Devil the deal of life, My breaths won't last. But my name shall fly . And Tyrihad dropped down, dead. Trisla wailed and a dead silence ensued. "We longer need the Book, Lincoln. Our work here is done." Frederick and Lincoln disappeared from the chamber window down into the streets, hidden in shadows like forever, working as the Guardians. TO BE CONTINUED.
