Love is a very strong attraction and a tender affection towards someone.
Love should be expressed towards all people.
God is love and so He created us to love and help one another. He created Eve because Adam needed someone to help and love him.
Love is an expression of gratitude unto God. When you show love to others, you are telling God that you appreciate His love towards you. Corinthians 13:4-13 gives a clear meaning of love.
BELOW ARE THE DESCRIPTIONS OF LOVE :
1. Love is patient: Love does not hurry. It has the ability to endure, wait, without becoming annoyed or upset. When you love, you will endure with others who are facing trials and persecutions. Love perseveres with others' weaknesses, ignorance, errors and infirmities.
2. Love is kind: Love gives. It is generous towards others. God gave His only son to die for our sins. He showed us love through His generosity and compassion. It is not harsh on others. It is caring and safe.
3. Love forgives : Love is always ready and willing to let go of other people's wrongs. We may offend one another but the love in us will want to make peace. Love will move you to apologize first even when you are not at fault. Love pardons; it does not get angry for long. God forgives our sins because He loves us. Love does not keep a diary/record of other people's wrongs.
4. Love is not easily provoked : Love accommodates others. It does not get angry easily. It does not also make people angry. Anyone who is easily provoked will quarrel with almost everyone.
5. Love is not selfish : Love seeks the good of others. It is willing to make sacrifices. Many times, friends run after good things without carrying others along. Love will never do things to hurt another person. Love seeks the satisfaction and comfort of others too.
6. Love is humble : Jesus humbled Himself because He wanted to make a sacrifice for us, Love is not proud. Love makes people humble themselves to help others. Love does not look down on other people.
7. Love protects :Love defends, shields and keeps others safe. Love makes you your brother's or sister's keeper. It encourages, supports and teaches others to walk in the safe path. It cares to secure others.
8. Love does not envy: It is very easy for one to become envious of others when they are prospering but love will not envy. It rejoices with those who are rejoicing and trusts God for its own blessing.
9. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth : A saying goes thus: Don't tell everyone your problems because 80% would not care and 20% would be glad It happened to you. This is not good. (Read Romans 12:9). Do not rejoice over another person's downfall ; rather be a source of support, strength and encouragement to others. Do not rejoice when a sinner is punished rather encourage him or her not to sin again. Always stand by and for the truth everywhere you find yourself.
10. Love cares: Meditate on the following attributes of Love.
Listen without interruption
Speak without accusing
Give without sparing
Pray without ceasing.
Show love to others irrespective of who they are and what they do. We are called to love. Jesus loves us so that we can love others; help the helpless and pray for the weak.
