LIGHT AFTER DARKNESS this story is a drama Episode 1 the scene took place at the house of Kalu, a poor and wretched man. His children has gone to school. He is seated on one of the benches inside his hut. He was in a sad mood. Kalu: (soliloquizing) when will this condition of mine come to an end? Oh God, you said that anyone who trust in you will never lack, but why is my own case different from that of others? (kpom kpom kpom. There's knock at the door) yes come in the door is open. (Onyenkwere enters with a butlars in his hand) Onyenkwere: good morning friend. How are you? Kalu: is it not obvious to you that am not fine? Onyenkwere: what is the matter. Kalu: my friend am not happy with this my condition. In fact am tired of this world. Onyenkwere: Kalu stop talking like this. I have warn you time without number that you should stop behaving like a fool. You should comfort yourself with the adage that pays "no condition is permanent". Kalu: Onyenkwe i have tried my best, but no way. It is better for me to die and leave this sinful world. Onyenkwere: must you kill yourself because you are not like others? Just build your faith and hope in God and He will surely meet you at the point of your needs. Kalu: hmmmm. Well! Thanks for your advice. Onyenkwere: i have to be on my way now. I want to go and brink some bamboo tree at that my farm before Umudike village. Kalu: ok. Thanks for your concern (Onyenkwere left while Kalu continued thinking about his life). Kalu: (calls his wife) Oyidiya! Oyidiya!! Are you deaf? Will run and come here immediately bedford Amadioha strikes you! Oyidiya: (answered from the kitchen) am coming o.. This one you're fuming i hope all is well. Kalu: how can everything be well when you want me to shout before you answer me. Oyidiya: i am sorry my husband. I was inside the kitchen when you called. Please forgive me. Kalu: thats by the way.. Can i have my breakfast now? Oyidiya: my husband you have to exercise some patience, the food is still in process. Kalu: (murmuring) is it because am not rich that you can't give me food at the right time? God please help me. Oyidiya: (feeling remorse) please my husband take it easy. Its not your fault nor mine. Please let me go and finish with the cooking. She left to the kitchen. Few minutes later she arrived with a tray in her hand and calls her husband... Nna anyi(our father) come and have your breakfast.. Kalu: am coming. (he later went for the food. After eating he thanked his wife and set off to farm) Oyidiya am off to the farm. Oyidiya: ok. Go well and come back on time. (Kalu left the house while his wife stayed back to do the cleanings in the house and other domestic works) To be continued.....

Episode 2 At the village school. The bell rang for morning assembly and all the students ran to their usual spot. They queued in different lines according to their classes.. Chapel prefect: good morning fellow students and staffs. All: good morning prefect. Chapel prefect: we shall open this morning devotion by singing from our ancient and modern hymnal number 280 (they all sang in unison) [color=red]Jerusalem on high my song and city is my home whene'er i die the center of my bliss o happy place! When shall i be, my God with thee, to see thy face? [/color] (etcetra) chapel prefect: Chibuikem Kalu, please lead us in a short prayer. Chibuikem: lets close our eyes as we seek the Lord through prayer (they all closed their eyes as he pray) dear Lord in heaven we thank you for making it possible for us to be alive in the land of the living, its not by our power but by the infinite mercy and love you have upon your children, we say may all glory, honor and adoration be ascribed unto your holy name in Jesus name. (he pause for their reply) All: amen Chibuikem: (continued) As we have gathered here today may you shower us your blessing, forgive all our iniquities. Today's activities we put into your able care. Come and take absolute control so that at last we all shall glorify your name. May these and many more be our inheritance in Jesus authoritative name i pray. All: (echoed) ameeeeen.. Chapel prefect: shall we sing the national anthem together? (they all sang) [color=blue]Land of the rising sun, we love and cherish, Beloved homeland of our brave heroes; We must defend our lives or we shall perish, We shall protect our lives from all our foes; But if the price is death for all we hold dear, Then let us die without a shred of fear. [/color] chapel prefect: the pledge all: [color=blue]i pledge to Biafra my fatherland. To serve with honesty to defend the land of the rising run wherever i go. To always uphold her glory, dignity and honor. And to promote peace and unity. So help me Chukwu Abiama. [/color] chapel prefect: good morning once again (they all responded and he continues) we will wait and recieve some announcements from the principal (he goes down as the principal comes to the stage). Mr. James: good morning all All: good morning sir. Mr. James: i don't have much announcement for you now but i must let you know that i am highly disappointed in some of you. You dress anyhow you like to school. Well i have good news for you or do i say bad news! Hence forth i will discipline any student seen not properly dressed. For those of you that are owing any dime, make sure you pay up asap because i will be driving you home soon. Also have it at the back of your mind that the school will not condone any atom of malpractice in the forth coming promotional exams. So you better study hard.. That will be all for now. You can now retire to your classes. He left the stage while the students sang their marching song as they marched to their various classes.. To be continued... I really apologize for not posting for a long time now. I have a really busy schedule this time and i managed to come up with this short episode but i promise to make it up to you guys... Episode 3 In SS2 class, the students are seated some reading while some are chatting and making noise. Chibuikem is seated quietly, reading his book when one of his classmate joined him. Chibuikem: Uzoma how are you fairing today? Uzoma: am fine and you? Chibuikem: i thank God for a bright day like this. Uzoma: yes o.. I can see you're serious with your book. Chibuikem: i am trying my best because i don't want to fail this exam o. Uzoma: (with a pleading look) can i join you? Chibuikem: naughty boy you can join me if you wish. Chidiebere came in haphazardly dressed with shirts flying out. He interrupted their discussion. Chidi: Uzoma whats up nah? This one wey you dey read your book today, i hope safe we dey safe? (he said in pidgin english). Uzoma: Chidi when will you ever learn to respect yourself? Why must you insult me. You see am not in the mood of exchanging words with anybody so go away with your wahala.. Chidi: o boy which one be your own na, we dey quarrel? O na because of that fuucking promotional exam you dey behave like this? See me i no dey worry myself because money na everything and everything na money. Uzoma: i can now see that you want to be an obstacle to me. Get out of my sight before i do something you and i will regret. You think you can sort your way with money, good for you but don't try to disturb my reading. Chidi: o boy which levels na? I go show you pepper o. (he walked away with a frown while they continued their reading). Uzoma: chi can you imagine this idiot trying to disturb somebody this morning. Chibuikem: don't mind him maybe they've sent him. (the class prefect announced the coming of their mathematics teacher so that they will prepare for the lesson while he went to call the teacher). Chidi: (with his gang chika, chike and Emeka) me i no like this una maths self. Chike: i no dey even understand anything for the subject (sighed heavily). Chika: na only you? I like am at all. In fact i no dey learn anything. (the teacher came in while they were still making noise. The class became quiet as soon as he stepped in, he walked straight to the black and wrote the topic: [color=red]WORD PROBLEMS LEADING TO QUADRATIC EQUATIONS [/color] before turning to face the class Mr. John: good morning class All: good morning sir. Mr. John: how are you all today. They all chorused: we're fine sir. Mr. John: we are going to look into the topic "word problems leading to quadratic equations" lets take a look at these examples ( he said as he went to the board to solve some examples and explaining them at the same time. Example 1 X(16 - X) = 60 SOLUTION X x 16 = 16X, X x X=X2 :-16X - X2= 60 (X2 means X raised to the power of 2) X2 - 16X 60 = 0 factorizing: (X-6)(X-10)= 0 :- X = 6 or 10 when X = 6, 16X - X = 16 - 6 =10 Example 2: X(8 - X) = 15 expanding: 8X - X2 = 15 X2 - 8X 15 = 0 factorizing (X - 3) (X -5)= 0 :- X = 3 or 5 Mr. John: (after explaining the above equation) any question so far? Chika: sir i no understand anything o. Which one come be X, Y. We dey learn maths abi na english? Mr. John: Are you out of your senses? What sort of question is that? Now leave my class. Chika: i no dey leave to anywhere o. Na simple question wey i asked you, you come dey chaose me. Mr. John being a short tempered person picked his book and work out of the class. The students rebuked Chika for his action. TBC

Episode 4 Chibuikem arrived from school and gave his father the latest news in school. Chibuikem: Daddy good afternoon sir. Kalu: good afternoon my son how was school today? Chibuikem: it was fine but... (his facial expression changed immediately as tears welled up in his eyes). Kalu: my son tell me, what is the matter? Chibuikem: our principal said that he would drive us home if we fail to pay our school fees and other debts. (he said as he allowed the tears to roll down freely) Kalu: is that why you are crying? Don't worry my God whom i serve will surely provide in Jesus name. Chibuikem: amen... He left his father and retire to the room to remove his school uniform and take his launch if there's any Kalu: (calls his wife) Oyidiya! Oyidiya: (answers from the back yard) nna anyi am coming o. (she answered almost immediately and ran to meet him) my husband you called me. Kalu: i want to go and meet my brother so that he can help me out in paying Chibuikem's school fees. Oyidiya: ok o, if you wish but.... (she swallows the remaining) Kalu: but what? Oyidiya: you know i love you and will not like you to recieve any embarrassment from anybody please. Kalu: its nothing, let me go.. He said and left immediately. AT NWOYE'S HOUSE Nwoye is a very wealthy man lacking nothing in life except the dear of God and love for fellow humans especially the poor ones.. He is seated in his sitting room well furnished and decorated. He was answering call from abroad before his brother Kalu knocked) Nwoye: (after answering the call) the door is open. You can come in. Kalu: (enters and greeted his brother) brother good afternoon. Nwoye: (heaved a sigh of disappointment) what is good about the afternoon? My friend say what you have come for.. Kalu: hmmm.. I.... I.... Want. Nwoye: (interrupting him) c'mon my friend say what you want to say and stop wasting my time. Kalu: please don't be offended. Its that i need your help. My son Chibuikem is in ss2 and i don't have money to pay his fees. Please help me. Nwoye: (was silent for a while then speaks) i will give you the money but under one condition. Kalu: what condition? Nwoye: only if you will allow me your wife for just a night. He said smiling. Kalu: what do you mean? I should allow you to sleep with my own wife? Tufia! (kalu said emphasising with his hand) over my dead body will i practice such evil act Nwoye: if that one is not ok then give me your daughter. Kalu: i can not do that. Its my fault not yours, i shouldn't hat come in the first place. Because i came to seek for help thats why you're insulting me like this? Nwoye: please the door is open, you can use it. Kalu: are you chasing me out of your house? Nwoye: please carry filthy self and get the hell out of my house. Am i the one that made you poor? Kalu: thank you for reminding me that am a poor man who can hardly pay his son's school fees. I will leave your house... ( he said and walked out of the house while Nwoye laughed at him stupidly. TBC

Episode 5 The next morning Kalu is seated in his house crying in anguish because of the humiliation his brother melted on him the previous day. To him life has choosen to deal with him, he couldn't even afford to train his children in school. Kalu: God please if it is your will let this poverty depart from me and my household, please don't put me to shame. Do not allow my enemies to glory over me. Chibuikem: (enters) good morning dad. Kalu: morning son, how are you? Chibuikem: am fine. Daddy i need my school fees else they'll drive me home. Kalu: honestly speaking my son i don't know how to get money now (he pauses to think for a better solution and later speaks on) you know what? You will go, am coming to meet your principal. Chibuikem: alright dad don't fail to come o. He said as he left for school. _______ Fast forward to school Kalu: (walks into the principal's office after after knocking and getting approval) good morning Mr. James. Mr. James: good morning and welcome. Have a seat. He said pointing to the seat opposite him while Kalu draws the chair back a bit to allow him sit.. (The principal continues) how may i help you sir? Kalu: please (he said kneeling down) i beg you in the name of whatever you hold supreme, just allow my son to stay for the lessons, i will pay up as soon as possible please. Mr. James: (in anger) my friend did you think here is a church where you beg for mercy? If you don't know, here is a school and we run a school with funds so you don't have to beg rather pay. Others will not go home and your son will stay back. Kalu: please consider me and do me this one favor and i promise never to let you down. Mr. James: for your information mr man, let this be the first and last that you will come here to beg. And let me sound it clear to you, there's no atom of preaching that can convince me. If you can not afford the school fees then take your son to a lower class school or better still keep him in your house. Kalu: please i beg you in the name of God. Find a place in your heart and God will surely replenish you. Mr. James: you know the way you came in here, now the same way take your God forsaken self out of my office before the count of three (he counts) 1......... 2....... (before he could open his mouth to count 3, Kalu has already jumped out of the office. Mr. James: (continues) nonsense, you think we run a charity home where you can beg for anything anytime you like. You think that education is free. Kalu: (on his way back to his house) God you said that your children who trust in you shall not seek for anything. Is my own case different? When he arrived from the school, he walked straight to his sitting room and sat down on one of the wooden chairs. After some minutes his son came back crying. Kalu: my son stop crying. Am sure that God has prepared an answer for our prayers. Chibuikem: but dad when will it come to pass? Kalu: soon i know... Go and call your mother and siblings lets have a short prayer session. Oh pardon my manners, i never told you that Kalu has two more children along side Chibuikem and Chioma. Well he has four children in total: Chibuikem, Chioma, Chidinma and chidubem. Chibuikem came back later with his mother and siblings... Kalu: i called you all here for us to have a prayer session. I think that my condition is now getting worse. Please Chioma lead us in a short chorus. Chioma: God will make a way, where there seems to be no way..... They all sang in unison for about three to four times and stopped. Kalu: now we are going to pray thus: Oyidiya you will pray for the life of everybody. Chioma you will pray for every children for God to guide and protect them, Chibuikem you will pray for your education that God will give you all wisdom and understanding and provide funds for training you and finally i will summarize it. Lets close our eyes (they all knelt down and closed their eyes) Oyidiya: our most gracious father in heaven thank you for the life given to us. Now we have bow down to seek your face, o Lord we need your intervention in our lives so that we will know that you are our God. Thank you for answering our prayer in Jesus mighty name. All: amen... Fast forward Kalu: father in addition to what your children have asked, I ask you to come and wipe away poverty from my family. People have said all manner of things because of our condition. Father i want you to put them to shame. Father let those that mock us to scorn come to rejoice with us. Thank you Lord for blessing us, thank you Lord for re-writing our story, thank you Lord for having answered our prayers in Jesus name we pray.. All: amen...... (they felt a kind of excitement as they encouraged themselves that God is still with them). TBC
