------------------------

First of all, I want to use this opportunity to thank a brother like a boss in person of Coolval for his concern in the past few months that I fell sick and had to abandon my on-going story THE THOMAS on this beautiful website. Coolval checked up on me on a couple of times and I appreciate it.
I must voice my disappointment at the fact that NONE of the readers of my story bothered to check up on me probably because they didn't know or something. Well, two people checked up on me, the first person literally attacked me for abandoning the story. The other was a senior to me back in secondary school. So, I appreicate them too. To the others who knew I was sick but made not one move to contact me, I thank God I didn't die.
This story is to celebrate my comeback and no matter how successful it turns out to be, I have no plans for it because I dedicate the story to COOLVAL himself for his brotherly love and he holds exclusive right to the story.
This story will run for as long as God wants it to run and I am going to finish it as well as THE THOMAS as soon as Val unlocked it.
Writing is my life and every blessed day, I wake up with new ideas. This is one of such ideas and I am giving it out. I call on every lover of literature to grace this thread and enjoy the tension the story brings.
Naturally, I am a crime writer, but when I delve into writing romance stories, I put a bit of crime and add tension coupled with suspence. This is not going to be different, but you won't have to beg for updates provided we maintain discipline on this thread. I hate e-fights and if anything of such happens here I may suspend the story and send it to val to finish on my behalf.
I am open to corrections based on how the story is running and I want to have an interactive running with the readers. Frequent questions would be dropped and we will all debate constructively without me giving out details of what to expect in the next chapter.
POWER AND LOVE is a romance novel from start to finish, but a little twist of betrayal, conspiracy, politics and above all LOVE is what the story represents.
Let us enjoy the story as I dish it out.

INTRODUCTION BUNMI JOSE My name is BUNMI JOSE, I am twenty six years old, a graduate of Business Administration at the University of Lagos and a graduate at HAVARD business school where I had my masters programme after my first degree. Upon completion of my Masters programme in the United states of America, I returned to Nigeria where I resumed at my father's company as the President. My father, SAN JOSE is a British-Nigerian born to a Nigerian mother and British father during the colonial era in Nigeria and after a few years of marriage, my grandfather was transferred to London and my grandmother stayed in Akure where she raised my father alone all through Elementary school, middle school, high school and the University. My father reunited with his father when he travelled to London and after a few years, my grandfather died leaving all his properties to my father who returned to Nigeria and established a Multi-National company known as SAN JOSE CONGLOMERATE which deals mainly with the production of local produce such as Sugar, plastic, textile and funiture. SJC which is the acronym of the company is a large employer of labour with over thirty administrative staffs, head of departments, members of departments and secretaries inclusive and almost one hundred factory workers. I assumed the role of President in 2013 when I clocked 24, a position I have held with seriousness and even though it was difficult at first, being a woman and considering how young I was. I faced difficulty in controlling the staffs I have under my stewardship as all of them are older than I was. Another problem I faced was presiding over board meetings which comprised old men and women of my father's age bracket and with the power I had, I could decide to accept or reject proposals made by these men and women. As a twenty first century graduate of Business Admin, I was very informed about the latest trend of running a company and the secrets to success, but I relied on these old men and women for advice because I believed in their experiences especially in the area of fighting other companies to maintain the number one spot in the country. Even though it took the intervention of my father who assumed the role of Chairman after I came on board before I won the support of the staffs. As he had to threaten them with sack. But sixteen months since I won their support and admiration, it has been a jolly good ride. I hope to get married before the end of the year as I am in a relationship with the best man in the world, in person of MIKE COLLINS. Even though he is a staff of the company, as well as my employee, I love him and nothing is going to change that. ---------------- KIKE BROWN My name is KIKELOMO BROWN, KIKE for short. I am a graduate of Industrial design at the John Hopkins university and I am twenty seven years old. My father, Late High Chief OLUMAYOWA BROWN was a former governor of the Western Region, a business man, a billionaire and above all a father to two wonderful children. Myself and my elder brother, TONY BROWN. I lost my father ten years ago when I was seventeen and my brother thirty years. Don't be suprised at the age gap as I couldn't explain the reason behind such gap, but all I knew was, Tony is my step brother as we were born of different mothers. Even though none of us knew who our mothers were, not even a picture for recognition, but the only mother we knew was ABIKE, our father's third wife and first lady, even though she had no child. It has been my dream to manage a multi national company just like my brother is managing our father's company, but I can't stand the pressure of working in the company as I can only speak English and Yoruba, but to work as my brother's deputy will mean I have to learn French and maybe Chinese. But Tony has promised to buy or establish a company where I can be the President and I simply cannot wait for that moment to come. I am single and I hope to meet MR RIGHT very soon. TO BE CONTINUED SHORTLY

INTRODUCTION 2 TONY BROWN My name is ANTHONY BROWN, TONY for short. I am forty years, a businessman and a philantropist. As a son of a former Governor of the old Western region and also the largest reciever of his property, I am saddled with the responsibility of running his business, as well as running his name according to dreams and aspirations. I am a very honest person, straighforward and open to business ideas that can improve the company, as well as my bank account. I can be greedy when it comes to money, power and women, and I have a way of getting whatever I want, even if it belongs to someone else. As a philantropist, I hate to see the poor suffering and I can be called an activist for the poor, because I rarely let my greed get close to the poor, because it would be termed cheating, but as a beliver of the supremacy theory, I love proving points to my fellow rich counterparts by outsmarting them in business deals by doubling whatever amount they invested, therefore, creating this inferiority complex in their minds and making them look poor regardless of their riches. But, all my business life, there remains olny one company which has stayed ahead of me in terms of profits at the end of the year and recommendation by world leaders. It is SAN JOSE CONGLOMERATE. While I major in hotel, hospitality, travels, construction and hoteling, SJC majors in factory production of clothing and textile, furniture, plastic among other things. And my company in a way or the other depends on their production as we make use of their products in every division of my company. Even though we are their largest customer, we are treated like others by their new and naive President, BUNMI, the CEO's daughter. By buying from SJC, we are enriching their pockets and at the end of the year, they still topped us on the index table as the richest companies by their profits and losses. I am out to bring SJC down and so help me God. ----------- MIKE COLLINS My name is MIKE COLLINS, a graduate of CHEMISTRY at the premier university, the University of Ibadan and five years after graduation, I am still jobless and poor. I relocated to Lagos one and a half years ago and that was when I met BUNMI JOSE who fell for me instantly considering the circumstances which led to our meeting. We became friends, and after a couple of meetings, we became inseperable, even though the idea of becoming lovers was impossible as my greatest problem then was unemployment. BUNMI was ready to help me, but I was not qualified to work in the administrative department with my first degree certificate. The minimum the company takes is second degree. Out of persevearance, the heavens smiled on me as one thing led to another as I started dating BUNMI, and her father had no choice but to give me a job in the company to head the production department, a decision which still amazed the board, but it was final. I am to resume on monday, but I have nothing to wear, but trust BUNMI, she was always at my rescue, she just took me out and we shopped for everything down to handkerchief in preparation for my first day at work as well as subsequent days. I hope I will do well in my new position and not disappoint my love, and her reluctant father. Even though BUNMI wants marriage at the end of the year, I don't think I am ready, considering my finances, but whatever happens, it can only be delayed. I will get married to her sooner or later.

CHAPTER 1 Collins checked the time for the upteenth time as he was already dressed in a sky blue long sleeves shirt, a black pant trouser over a pair of well polished black shoes. He had a Rolex wristwatch on his left wrist and his black tie stood straight down to the half of his stomach. With his shirt properly tucked in, a black belt held it in place with his trouser. The time was 6:20AM and today is his first day at work. Punctuality they say is the soul of business and as promised the previous day when they met, his girlfriend who is in charge of the company where he is to resume promised to pick him up on her way to work, but Collins was out to impress her by getting to the office before her. Once the 6:30AM news broadcast started, he walked out of his one room apartment, locked the door and stepped out of the popular face me face you building her lives in. "Uncle, you dey go out? This one wey you dress like this." Iya Chidi, one of his neighbours asked. When it comes to gossip, Iya Chidi is regarded as a legend, but her legendary is nothing without her bestfriend and partner in crime, Iya Ruka, another neighbour of his. The two women are the types who would sit down, think and fabricate stories and in minutes, everyone in the neighbourhood is aware of the latest story which is always believed, hook, line and sinker. No matter how hard people tried not to believe, the two women has an unparralleled talents at making fiction into realities. Even if Collins hasn't spent two years in the neighbourhood, he had heard the story of how Iya Ruka destroyed Iya Chidi's home and few months later, the later served her friend her own medicine which destoryed the former's marriage. How they managed to remain as friends is a mystery to many, including Collins. "Good morning Iya Chidi." Collins greeted. "e be like sey Uncle Collins don find job o." That was Iya Ruka as she approached the duo. Collins wanted to ask what the two women were doing outside by this time of the day, but he decided to keep quiet. "That your beautiful and rich girlfriend don do am for you. Thank God o." Iya Chidi said happily. "Connect me too Uncle. Even if na cleaner job, I no mind." She added. "Am running late. I'll see you when I return." Collins said as he hurriedly left the two women to their lamentation of how poverty has taken over their lives. "You go wash it for us o." Iya Chidi screamed. With a smile on his face, Collins boarded a taxi which took him to his place of work. He alighted and walked into the premises of SAN JOSE CONGLOMERATE. "Good morning sir." He greeted the gateman as he walked towards the ground floor. "Good morning." The gateman replied. Without stopping he made his way to the top floor where Bunmi's office was situated and being a regular caller at the office, her secretary allowed him into the office with a cute smile. One hour later, Bunmi walked into the office dressed in a simple white shirt and black trouser. Her hair was packed to a bun and her open toes heels shoe adorned her beautiful feet. "Hello darling." She said as she approached Collins who immediately stood up and she hugged him tightly. "When did you arrive?" She asked. "One hour ago." He replied. "Am sorry, I couldn't pick you up as promised. Dad had to visit the hospital this morning for his checkup and his driver was unavailable, so I opted to drive him." She explained while still holding on tight to him. "It's nothing." He assured. "Good. Let's gate to work. First, I have to introduce you to the board and your colleagues in your department. Come with me." Her tone changed to being serious and ready for business. "Yes ma'am." Collins bowed as he followed her. "I won't take that. Call me Bunmi." She laughed. "You are my boss." He protested. "And you are my man." She added as they walked out of her office into her secretary's office. -------- Collins finally settled down in his office as the head of the production department which puts him in the position to monitor the input and output of the company, as well as the welfare of the production staffs. Bunmi had shown him around the buildings and floors and ge was quite impressed with what he has seen, even though the reception he had was not what he expected, but he was ready to prove his worth. According to Bunmi, the production department has been without a head for five months, even though an interim head was in place, but his arrival means the interim head has been displaced. Just then, the intercom rang. "Hello." He said on picking up. "Your first presentation is at ten. Get the production report from your secretary and let's meet at the conference room." Bunmi instructed and hung up immediately. Barely less than one hour since he was shown his office, his work started in earnest. --tbc--

--*-- Inside the conference room, "Mr Collins, let's have your presentation please." The head of Accounts requested. Collins rose up with the presentation in hand. He cleared his throat and began. "No, before that, I think we should all get acquainted with our new new production manager." Bunmi suggested and everyone agreed. "Introduce yourself once again Mr Collins." "My name is Mike Collins. And I am the new production manager." He replied almost stammering. The next few minutes, everyone in the room introduced themselves, but he wasn't listening. How could he? When he just got a job with a lot of pressure. But a particular name caught his attention, RUKAYAT. The Human Resource manager. "You can go on with your presentation sir." Bunmi said with a wink once everyone was done introducing themselves to Collins. "Yeah. According to the reports I got..." Collins, unsure of how and where to start began. "No, on the other hand Mr Collins. This is not the report you got. You are the production boss, and whatever report is coming out of your department must have been consented to by your office. Own up to the responsibility as the department's boss." Bunmi cuts in. "Okay ma'am." He bowed slightly. He cleared his throat once again, this time rearing to go. "The production unit is the most important part of any industry and I understand the fact that the company has been without a Manager in that aspect prior to my appointment which is exactly why I have decided to work with my own blue print." He began. "Excuse me Mr Collins. You are expected to work with what you met." The head of accounts corrected. "It's his decision." Bunmi whispered. "Thank you. Even though I haven't sat to rub minds with the staffs in my department, mere going through the reports submitted to me, I can see that production in the last five months has dropped by 3% unlike what was obtained before the production unit lost the former manager. Without asking around, worker's well being, salary package, welfare package, health bonus, incentives and job security are one of the things responsible for efficiency in workers." He finally began. "By the report in my hand, I can see that, the lack of a production manager is responsible for the drop in production as the factory workers felt unsafe, especially when an interim manager from Sales department was brought in. The production rate three months ago dropped to 5% but the crew moved to the rescue almost immediately by increasing the production materials in all factories, but what was obtained at the end was 86.5% production. Only two things can be responsible for this; the first being the incidence of wastage while the second comes from stealing of raw materials by the factory workers." He continued. "I am the head of the factory workers Mr Collins, but I don't know what you are talking about." A short man sitting beside Collins spoke. "Mr Roland, you can't know everything going on, but if you insist, I will want you to go through the production reports of 2012, 2013 and the half of 2014 when a production manager was in place. Even though production then was a little above 80% according to the reports here, I can categorically tell you that, there was no drop in prodcution for two and a half years which is exactly what we need. If production can be constant, then we can budget our spendings around what we earn from prodcution in the long run." Collins explained. "So, what's the way out?" Bunmi asked. "Mr Roland, as a one time factory worker. I checked your profile and realised you worked in the furniture factory in 2005, the first time the company recorded 90% production input and output. Your experience then, how you and your colleagues were treated, what gave you the confidence to put your all in the job is exactly the way out here. But above all, the factory workers salary must be reviewed. Thank you." He sat down and applause followed from everybody in the conference room. "Mr Collins, provide a hard copy of the report and the way out and send it to my office after lunch break. You have three hours to do that." Bunmi instructed. "That will be all for today." She rose up immediately as she shook hands with the departmental heads closer to her, and with one final wink at Collins, she strolled out of the hall. "I love your confidence." A familiar voice said as Collins was shutting down his computer. He raised his head up to find a near empty room which has two deparmental heads whose names he had forgotten deep in conversation and the Human resource manager, Rukayat standing beside him. "Thank you." He smiled as he stood up. "You are new here, how about if I treat you to lunch?" She asked. Remembering that he promised Bunmi to have lunch with her. "Am sorry, but my lunch break is occupied. Maybe next time." He replied. "Maybe tomorrow." She added. --tbc--

--*-- Tony Brown sat under a relaxation shed located on the roof of his company's building drinking from his wine bottle. "Sir, can I come in?" A young man who couldn't be more than twenty eight years asked. "Oh! Malik come in of course." Tony replied. The young man walked in and stood, head bowed before his boss. "I came to give reports for the assignments you gave me." Malik informed. "Oh! Lets hear them." Tony urged. "Martin Blaise called to say he will be in Nigeria tomorrow for the deal, but I have men watching his steps. He earlier this morning met with the French President and when he called, he was with Nigeria's ambassador to to France." Malik explained. "Can you now see why I didn't want to go into dealings with Blaise?" Tony asked, to which Malik nodded in the affirmative. "Is he now playing politics with our supposed deal?" He asked as he went into deep thought. "He obviously wants to eat his cake and have it." Malik replied. "You know what? Ensure that he arrives Nigeria tomorrow. Once you are sure of his arrival, call him and postpone the deal for twelve hours. He can't return to France, then get men to monitor his movements for those twelve hours. If nothing is found, meet with him and present a deal different from what we had. He is going to be furious, then tell him to cut ties with the French president or loose the chances of Tony Brown buying his almost dying company." Tony instructed, his eyes fixed on the bottle he held. "Yes sir, but don't you think he is suspicous of the fact that you killed his company?" Malik asked. "Do as I say." Tony replied. "And one more thing, put a call through to the President at SJC, organise a lunch meeting at the Oceanic Galleria. The president must be there in person." Tony instructed. "Okay sir." Malik replied before walking away to make the call. Tony dropped the wine bottle and cast his mind back to how he met Martin Blaise, a French billionaire and how things went sour between them. They both started out as friends after they met at a summit in Abuja, where Blaise was part of the French president's entourage, while Tony was one of Nigeria's president's closest business allies. The two men hit off instantly and a series of business deal took place between them. Then, Blaise started getting greedy, much to Tony's annoyance which forced him to invest in Blaise's rival company which resulted in a fall in market for Blaise's company and skyrocketted the rival company(where Tony invested) a situation which forced Blaise into the decision to sell his company. Unknown to him, Tony who was responsible for his fall is also the highest bidder to buy the company's largest shares. ----------- It was lunch break and Collins was on his way to the company's canteen when his phone rang, it was Bunmi. "Hello dear." He said as soon as he picked the call. "Darling, where are you?" She asked. "The canteen, any problem?" He replied. "Nothing much, but I have to be somewhere now, it is work related." She explained. "No problem, you go ahead. I'll just grab lunch and be good." Collins replied. "Are you sure? I mean, its your first day, I should be by your side, taking you around." She laughed. "That's true, but work is important than that, and moreso, I've made a couple of friends." Collins replied. "Friends? I hope they are guys. The girls here are thief and won't hesitate to steal you from me. But I won't take that." Collins bursted into laughter. "See you later love." He said. "I love you." Bunmi replied and the line went dead. By now, Collins was standing at the counter where a young lady was ready to take his orders and serve. Taking a quick look at the menu. "Two pies and malt will do." He instructed. "Do take a seat, you'll be served in a moment." The lady smiled seductively. Collins returned the smile as he left the counter to see someone waving from a near empty table. It was Rukayat. "I thought your lunch break is occupied huh?" She asked as soon as he came to a stop near her table. "My date won't be able to make it." He replied as he sat down, just when his meal was served. "Put his bill on mine." She instructed the waiter. "Why?" Collins asked. "You are new here and this is the least I can do to make you feel welcomed." She explained. "I am Rukayat, HR manager." She added extending her hand for a handshake. "Collins." He replied as he took her hand in his. -----

--*-- For the first time, Collins walked into the factory common room where all the factory workers are camped, before and after production. And five minutes to the end of the lunch break, majority of them are getting ready to return to their respective factories. He stood at a vantage position which has been designated for him in case he wants to address them, and with Roland, the head of the factory workers beside him, he cleared his throat as he switched on the microphone. One thing he noticed about the men was their distinct uniforms. A faction of them were dressed in orange overalls and orange pyjamas, while another faction was dressed in sky blue overall, others were dressed in green, white to mention a few. According to the lecture he recieved from Roland, those dressed in Orange are the furniture factory workers, those in green are in the textile factory, those in sky blue are in the plastic factories. "Can I have you attention please?" He asked and the noise and chatterings died down as they all faced him. "Good afternoon my brothers. My name is Collins and I am the new Production manager." He paused for their reaction as he saw a majority of them smile while clapping. "I am new here and my mission here is to know you guys better. See me as your brother and do not hesitate to lodge your complaints to me and I will meet with the ogas and we will adjust." Before he could finish, they were all clapping. "I understand that you are all being underpaid, and my first assignment is to get a salary review committee for you and increase each and everybody's salary." He continued. "The company is more than ready to meet whatever wage the committee agreed on, but you must first show the zeal to work and the first thing is, production must improve. Quantity-wise and quality-wise." "We are ready for the challenge." They chorused. "I am not the production manager from office. I am a production manager in the factory, and just like Roland who is supervising all the factories, I will be supervising with him and calling shots, making decisions with the ogas from my office. I also will wear my uniform." just then, Roland approached him and gave him a white overall and he put it on amidst loud cheers from the workers. "Let us all work together to achieve something big. Thank you for your time." With this, he stepped down from the podium just in time for Roland to address them. "Let us welcome the big boss officially." He said as they all started clapping. "Get back to work all of you." He instructed and there comes the end of the first meeting with the workers. "They seem ready to work with you." Roland said as he caught up with Collins on their way back to the administrative offices. "Yeah. The acceptance is overwhelming." Collins replied. "So, the salary review. I hope the ogas will accept." Roland said. "But, I think Miss Bunmi is feeling you one kind." He added. "Really?" Collins asked. "Yeah, and she is single, this could be your chance. Try her out." He advised. "Roland, I hear you." Collins replied as he bursted into laughter. "See you later." He added as stopped outside his office. "Alright boss." END OF CHAPTER 1.

CHAPTER 2 San Jose was seated in his spacious living room watching a news broadcast. A pack of fruit juice stood on the stool in front of him as well as a half filled glass cup, his mobile phone and the television's remote. Just then, Bunmi walked out from the kitchen cleaning her hand with a napkin as she approached her father. "Hi dad." She greeted as she sat beside him. "Hello princess." San Jose replied. "Dinner would be ready in ten minutes." She informed. "Okay." Her father replied. "Have you seen the latest on ISIS?" he asked. "No daddy. You know I hate politics, not to talk of terrorism." She replied. San Jose went silent for a while before he spoke. "Collins, your boyfriend has really been impressive at work." "yes dad. Am impressed as well, especially at how quickly he understood how things are done . You need to see his presentation on monday, there wasn't any debate. The factory workers are solidly behind him and are ready to work overtime just to improve production, especially after he promised them a reviewed salary package among other incentives. And for the first time since I started working in the company, the existing rivarly between the plastic workers and the funiture workers as well as other factories seemed to have disappeared." Bunmi explained excitedly. "He is the man we have been missing. Even though hiring him was a great risk, considering the department we let him head. It is paying off now." Her father replied. "Yes daddy." Bunmi retorted. "But, you know you have to be careful right?" San Jose asked. "How do you mean dad?" "This is the twenty first century, men and women inclusive wants quick money. They don't mind serving their spouse, so far they will be comfortable." San Jose began. "I don't understand." "Let him advance in his career. He can't continue to be the production manager, and you can't continue to be his boss. Of what gain will it be if you pay his salary, will he be able to stamp his authority in your married life?" Bunmi thought for a while. "Does that mean you are going to let us get married?" She asked. "You are the apple of my eyes. Whatever makes you happy." Her father replied. "And avoid telling him things beyond the description of his job." He added. "Dad. I trust him, nothing is going to go wrong." As expected, She argued. "I know you do, but do not let the trust you have in him becloud your reasoning, such that you won't talk even if he is going about things the wrong way. And remember what the company's policy says; no preferential treatment. So, if the board decides to santion or reprimand him, do not try to influence the decision of the board, or you risk other workers protesting." "Okay dad." she retorted. "Let's go and eat." San Jose said as he stood up, stretched out his hand and pulled Bunmi up. "Don't think about what I said. They are just words of advice. You'll need them sooner or later." He whispered as Bunmi reluctantly followed him to the adjoining room to the living room which serves as the dining room. "When is the next presentation?" San Jose asked as Bunmi dished their meal. "Friday." She replied. "I will like to be there. I want to see Collins in action." "Its high time you returned to work as the Chairman and CEO." Bunmi said. "Yes ma'am president." Her father replied amidst laughter. After the laughter had died down, Bunmi spoke up. "That reminds me, I met Tony Brown today in his office." San Jose almost choked on his food as he heard that. "What was it about?" He asked. "He invited me to his birthday party on friday night." Bunmi replied. "Don't honor his invite." San Jose said without battling an eyelid. "Why dad? His chain of business alone contributes to twenty percent of our sales. He is our largest customer. I think I am representing SJC." Bunmi protested. "That is final. At the close of work on friday, drive straight home. You must not attend Tony Brown's party." "But dad..." She tried to protest, but was cut short. "Shhhhhh.... Do you want me to skip dinner?" San Jose asked. "No dad. Finish up your meal." She replied as her mind wandered into deep thoughts. She definitely can't ignore Tony Brown's invite. --tbc--

--*-- The time was 7AM when Kike Brown stepped out the mansion she lived in with her brother and step brother. "Good morning ma'am." One of the body guards greeted. "Good morning." She replied as she walked towards a black Toyota prado jeep. A chauffer was already waiting at the owner's corner door and as soon as she came to within arms length of the chauffer, he opened the back door and She climbed into the car. While the chauffer shut the door, a bodyguard hopped into the passenger seat up front with her handbag, and the chauffer rounded the car to the driver seat. Less than five minutes later, they drove out of the compound. Just when her phone rang, it was Tony, her brother. "Hello, Miss Kike." The ever loyal personal and media assistant to her brother, Malik said. "Hello Mr Malik." Kike replied. "Please hold on a second for my principal." After what seems like forever, Tony's husky voice came on. "Hello Kiks." He said. "Bro. Am on my way out now." She replied. "Oh! That's great. Do you still have the credit card with you?" Tony asked. "Yeah." she replied. "Okay. I will send one of the company's mini-truck over to you so they can transport everything you buy." "That will be appreciated." Kike replied. "Can you do me a favour?" Tony asked. "Tony Brown is a commander. You are not used to making requests. So, shoot." Kike replied amidst laughter. "I need the service of berbecue makers. Could you make a stop at the berbecue palace and negotiate with their best hands?" Tony requested humbly. "What price?" She asked. "A trip to mount fuji." Tony replied. "You know how much I hate the Fuji island, even as a kid. Tell me something else." "okay, let me think." Tony went silent for a while before he spoke. "There is going to be a board meeting today at noon. You are a member of the board too, why not show up and preside over the meeting?" "Tony, you know...." Kike tried to protest. "No excuses. Get me what I asked for, you prside over the board meeting today. That's the deal." Tony replied. "Am sure you still know the way to my office." He teased. "I should get married soonest, so you will stop bossing me around." She joked. "It is long overdue ma'am. Menopause is real." Tony joined in the joke. "Am still twenty six. I still have time. What about you? Come on, Tony, you are forty." "Well, you have maybe a decade and few years before menopause. But, as for me, even at sixty, I can still have kids." Tony replied. "I doubt if you can inpregnate a woman at all." "Come and let me prove you wrong." He replied. "Jeez! Tony, you are mad, I swear. That's incest, inbreeding or whatever you want to call it." Kike screamed. "Get off my phone you little witch. See you at noon." With this, Tony hung up. With a smile on her face, she faced the road for the first time, but what she saw surprised her. "Have we been strucked in this traffic or we are moving?" She asked either of the men sitting in front. "We are strucked ma'am." The well built bodyguard replied. "Listen to yourself fool. You should be sacked. Don't you know it is your job to solve traffic issues everytime you are on my entourage?" "Am sorry ma'am." The bodyguard who could only wonder if it was the same jovial and free spirited Kikelomo who just finished speaking with her brother or the well known brat that she is. More like the later, because Kikelomo is only open to two people. Her brother Tony, and their step-mother. Everyone else on earth is unimportant and doesn't exist. Forty minutes later, Kike was on a shopping spree inside the largest supermarket in West Africa and on request, three attendants were pushing trolleys as she picked what she wants to buy. Mostly wines. "I want six Moet." She said once she stopped at the shelf where the particular drink was arranged. "We have just four on sale. Let me check the store." One of the attendants replied as she hurriedly left for the store house. She returned moments later with another bottle. "There is only one bottle left ma'am." She said as she dropped it in the trolley where the other four was. "So, what's the hype about your supermarket being the largest in West Africa?" Kike asked in irritation. "You should have everything readily available." "We are very sorry ma'am." The three girls chorused. "I think that's all I need, let's make payment." She said and with one long stride, she turned and headed for the cashier department. "What's the total amount?" She asked the cashier who was making inputs into her computer." "One minute please." The young man replied. While waiting, she allowed her eyes to scan around the very big hall and suddenly, something of interest caught her attention. A young man stood at a counter, probably transacting and making payment for the goods he purchased. "One minute." She said to no one in particular as she moved closer to the man. "Excuse me." She said as she got to where the man stood. "Yeah?" The man replied. "Kike Brown." She introduced stretching her hand for a handshake. "Ade." The man replied non challantly. It there was one effect the name Brown had on people, it has to be the sense of inferiority complex against the first class family. But, Ade here before her wasn't even moved at the fact that he was standing before a billionaire. He didn't even accept her handshake. And to make matters worse, immediately after telling her his name, he turned his attention to the attendant behind the counter. "Everything costs twenty five thousand naira." The attendant informed Ade who immediately produced his credit card and gave to the lady who slot it into the POS machine beside her computer. "Could you please sell that to me?" Kike asked. Ade turned and gave her a "so-you-are-still-there" look. "What?" He asked. "I needed one more bottle of Moet, so I think I should buy this." Kike replied. "As you can see, I bought a bottle among other things and it is meant to serve a purpose." Ade replied. "Your pin sir." The attendant interrupted Kike before she could speak. The lady pushed the POS machine closer to Ade who quickly input his pin. "How about if I pay one hundred thousand naira?" Kike asked. "Madam, as you can see, he paid for the wine already. Why don't you look around and pick something else. There are other good drinks around." The attendant advised. "I wasn't talking to you." Kike snapped angrily which prompted Ade into coming in. "I already told you. If you have money to spend, you just met a wrong guy cos, am not a bit moved by your status or your worth." He said to a rather surprised Kike. "Please pack them for me." He instructed the attendant. Ade collected the things he bought and made for the exit, but not without saying goodbye to his new friend. But much to his chagrin, he was stopped by a heavily built guy who has the look of a bodyguard, and before he could say 'Jack' the wine was collected from him and a bundle he suspected to be a sum of one hundred thousand naira placed instead of the wine in the bag with which it was packed. "Good day Ade." Kike mocked as she catwalked out of the supermarket. "What audacity? I will make sure I sue this supermarket and that damned lady. A supermarket that couldn't guarantee the safety of its customers. See how I was harrassed and almost assaulted." But all his rants were fruitless and it only made him look foolish. In anger, he stormed out of the building. --tbc--

--*-- Collins hadn't sat down to begin work for the day when his intercom buzzed. Instead of sitting, he rose up and grabbed the phone. "Mr Collins, you have Miss Rukayat from Human resource on the line." His secretary's voice came on. "Patch her through." He instructed. Moment's later, Rukayat's voice came on. "Hello Collins." "Good morning Miss. How may I help you?" He replied. "Can you come to my office now?" She asked. "Why?" He replied with a question. Typical of Nigerians, always replying a question with another question. "Since you joined us here, you haven't visited me, and I have visited you once. Don't you think you owe me a visit?" Rukayat replied in her usual confident manner. "But, I just resumed work. It is wrong to spend the early hours of the morning visiting people right?" Collins asked. "Of course, but believe me it is work related." Rukayat replied. "Okay, I'll be there in ten." "Ten minutes is too much, make it five or less." She protested. Collins laughed for a while. "Okay, seven minute tops." He replied. "Fine, I'll be expecting you. Kisses" With this, the line went dead. But almost immediately another sound could be heard. "Are you there?" Collins asked. For the second time, the line went dead in the manner it did the first time. "Is someone intercepting my calls?" He asked himself as he glanced through his 'to do' list for the day. Five minutes later, he stood up, rearranged his table and stepped out of his office. "Am very sorry sir." His secretary apologized as she scrambled up to pack her things together. "Lydia, right?" He asked to be sure. "Yes sir." The young lady who couldn't be more than twenty-four replied, unable to look at her boss in the face. "I won't scold you for this, I mean, am new here and I don't know how things are done around here, but am sure every organization will frown at any of its staff found doing what I caught you doing." He began. "Am very sorry sir." Lydia apologised. "I just felt my face was too oily, so I decided to do something about it." She added. "I understand, but the restroom is here for quick application of your makeup." Collins replied. "Hold my calls, I have to meet the HR manager right now. See you later." With this, he strolled out of the office. "Thanks for your understanding sir." ----THE HR DEPARTMENT--- Collins sat in front of Rukayat as she recieved a call, while flashing him smiles and meaninful looks in between. "Sorry for keeping you waiting." She said once she was done talking on phone. "So, why did you ask me to see you?" Collins asked. "Take a chill pill man. Coffee or tea?" "None. I have a lot to do in the office." He replied. "Fine." she said as she searched through the paper files arranged on her table. She finally pulled out a blue covered one and handed it to Collins. "Latest by ten thirty, you will take the day off. You and I have to be somewhere." She explained. "Take the day off? You and I?" Collins asked in confusion. "Let me give you a summary. During the last quarter departmental meeting, the board set up a three member committee to investigate the source from where our raw materials are coming from. I led the committee and my members were the former acting Production manager and a certain Ade from Sales department, even though he is currently on suspension." She explained further. "Go on." Collins urged. "That's the report of the investigation and the committee is expected to present their findings by the next departmental meeting. With the former acting production manager gone, and Ade still on suspension, I am supposed to present the report, but alas, my annual leave starts by the month end. So, I felt I should equip you with the necessary things to defend the report." She continued. "You still haven't told me why I will take the rest of the day off." Collins reminded. "Well, a portion of the reports says, the materials we use in the production of plastic, that is the latex is a refined one. Meaning, it is sub-standard, and by the time it enters our factory, the first process is refining. That confirms that the latex has gone through two stages of refining and by the time the plastics are out, they break before long." She paused and gave Collins a searching look. "Does that mean, the company isn't getting what it is paying for?" Collins asked. "Exactly. So, we are meeting our major supplier of latex today. We need to know where the problem is coming from." Rukayat replied. "What if it turns out that we are getting latex from a different supplier from the one that we know?" Collins asked. "We will know the truth by the time we visit the supplier." Rukayat replied. "Meet me at the parking lot by 10:15." She added. "Okay." Collins replied and stood up. ---- --- Ten minutes later, he walked into the production departments and exchanged pleasantries with a few of the production team members who noticed his entry, and without another word, he proceeded into the room concealed behind the door marked "PRODUCTION MANAGER." His secretary, Lydia stood up as soon as she noticed his presence. "Welcome sir." She said. "Thank you. Any calls?" He replied. "None except the President, Miss Bunmi." Lydia answered. "Okay." Collins replied as he made for the door into his own office. He pushed the door opened and he almost died of shock when someone grabbed him without warning, slammed his back lightly against the wall, and the softest lips he ever kissed enveloped his in a deep romantic kiss. "Oh! I missed my man." Bunmi cried in ecstacy as she rubbed Collins all over. Collins expertly broke the ensuing romance. "We are at work for God's sake." He said. "And so what?" "It is unethical and unprofessional." Collins replied. "Are you seeing someone else? This one that you are telling me about ethics and professionalism." She asked. Collins gave a short laugh. "Of course not." He replied and kissed he forehead. "So, where are you coming from?" She asked as he led her in properly. "Rukayat sent for me." He replied. "HR and Production. What's the relationship between the two departments?" Bunmi asked. "Are you jealous already? "of course." She replied laughing. "Don't be. I am yours for life." "I know, but you had lunch with her the other day." She said. "Oh my God! Bunmi." Collins exclaimed. "I was just joking." Bunmi replied laughing. "Are we having lunch today? You are paying, am broke." she added. "Am broken as well. Anyways, am taking the day off as soon as it is ten, work related." He replied. "With Rukayat right? Just be careful." She said kissing him once again. "Yes ma'am." Collins bowed. Earning him a playful punch. "Can I hang out with you till ten?" She asked. "I have a report to go through." Collins replied. "Jesu! My boyfriend is so busy and obsessed with work." she said dreamily. "Maybe, we should work our leave to month end, so I can spend time with you." "You are funny. You can stay around, provided you won't disturb or distract me." Collins replied. "I will confuse you sef. Let me just leave you. I'll call you." With one last kiss, Bunmi left the office. As much as he tried keeping his status with her in secret, Bunmi kept doing everything to ensure that everyone at SJC knew they are going out. "God help me." He prayed as a smile escaped his lips. --*-- Collins drove into the premises of Tony Brown party venue and he was amazed at how filled up everywhere was with different expensive care of different brands and makers. As they walked on the red carpet leading to the entrance into the house, Collins took his time to count the cars in the compound, but he hadn't counted three cars before a particular sports car caught his attention. It was an Aston Martin, the first time he was seeing one. He badly wanted to touch it, but a second look at the car, he saw it had a customized plate. Obviously, it belonged to a bigger gun in the society. The bodyguards standing around it spoke volume. "Are you nervous?" Bunmi asked. "Of course." Collins replied. Who wouldn't be? "Don't be. I am nervous too and you are my knight in shining amour." Bunmi said with a smile. They were stopped at the security post where the security men ran checks on them, at the same time confirming the autenticity of their invite. "You are welcome sir and ma'am." The security man admitted them into the elevator and few seconds later, they were ascending to only God knows where. All through the flight, Bunmi never left Collins. Aside holding his hand tightly, she was always coming to adjust his polo or anything that need to be adjusted according to her. "Breathe in and breathe out." Collins said as the elevator stopped on the sixth floor and by the time it opened, they were welcomed into a very big hall which was brightly decorated. "Welcome sir. Welcome ma'am. My name is Malik." A light skinned man, more like a Morroccan or an Algerian than a Nigerian greeted them as they walked into the venue of the party. Without being told, Collins recognized Tony Brown from the way he was exchanging pleasantries with everybody. "Ah! Welcome my special guest of honor." Tony said as he approached the latest arrivals. "Good evening Miss Bunmi." He bowed slightly as she shook hands with her and subsequently kissed the back of her hand. "And you must be Collins. Its nice to have you here." He shook hands with Collins as well. "A nice party you have here." Collins complimented. "Am glad you guys love it. Let me show you around." Tony said, more of a command than a request. For the next five minutes, Tony introduced them to other guests and by the time they had met everybody, Collins had forgotten most of the people he met, but one thing he made sure he did was exchange complimentary cards with them all. Even though his card bore the office of a production manager, unlike others who were either Directors, CEOs, Managers and other high ranking entreprenuers. But he wasn't disturbed. While he hustled to exchange contact with everybody, Bunmi only gave her card to a young lady who in turn gave hers to Bunmi. "She is an event planner. I think she'll plan our wedding." Was what Bunmi said as they left the lady. At the end of the tour, Tony Brown had taken them to the inner parts of the house, including the kitchen where they met those in charge of cooking and the last person they met was a popular DJ. "Collins, can I borrow Bunmi for a while?" Tony asked when they returned to the hall where other guests were. "You can walk around the house, strike up conversations with anybody. And yes, there is a snooker board and a casino ground on the topmost floor. Go there, have fun." He added. "I'll just grab a drink or two." Collins replied. "Baby, here. Hold my phone for me." Bunmi said before she left with Tony to only God knows where. At first, he felt empty while he continued staring in the direction which they went until a voice screamed in his subconscious. "Loosen up Collins. You are here to have fun." That was all he needed before he gingerly walked towards the bar where he requested for a mixture of his favourite drink. Even God knows he wanted to quit alcoholic drinks, afterall, he hadn't tasted them for almost a week, but here he was in a party where everything is in abundance. "Even God go vex if I no drink for this place." He thought as he smiled. "A penny for your thought." A feminine voice asked bringing him out of his riverie and before him was a young lady, a little over twenty five. Dark skinned, tall and beautifully endowed in the right places. In terms of beauty, Collins knew the lady before him would give Bunmi a run for her money, but he waved it off. "What are you doing all alone at the bar laughing?" She asked. "I love laughing alone especially when am in a bar." Collins wanted to say, but he controlled himself. "Am bored. My date went out quickly." He replied instead. "Fine, then I'll be your date." The lady grabbed his hand and literally dragged him out of the party towards the elevator. She 'dragged' him not because she had power to, but because he had no choice except to follow her. ---- As soon as the elevator stopped at the topmost floor, she dragged Collins out once again and they walked toward a door outside which were to bouncers or bodyguards. As they stopped before bouncers who ran checks on Collins, he decided to know the name of his new found friend so to say. "What's your name?" He asked. "Tha't unimportant for now. I need to get my money back." She replied. "Wht money?" Collins asked. As his mind wandered into the likely scenario he is about to face. "If this lady think I am a fighter who would help her collect her money, ne OYO she dey o." He thought as they walked into a dimly lit room. The hard stench of marijuana hit his nose and he felt like passing out, but to avoid the falling of hands, he dare not. He looked around the room and saw two ladies dancing almost naked. It is obvious they have been paid to entertain the guests, because, the way the moved sensually, everything about them oozed professionalism. Collins quickly took his eyes off the two ladies. "Here is my defender. He is going to recoup all I have lost." The lady said to a group of people seated around a casino. Collins laughed in his mind. He was no professional in the game of casino, and the obnoxious lady who came to drage him from his comfort zone didn't ask if he could play or not. "You never loose. You go loose more." Collins thought as he sat down. He first of all exchanged pleasantries with the guys and judging from their names, he could point at three players whose parents are serving Senators. "So, this is how our collective wealth is being spent? No wonder wardrobe allowance for each senators runs into millions." He thought. "I raise with 50k." A guy, an albino said. "I bet 60K." Another guy said. Collins looked at his cards. "I fold." He said. Everyone exchanged funny looks which later grew into serious looks. "I can see we have a professional tactician here." The albino guy said. Collins smiled. He had a perfect game plan. ----------- "Mr Tony, this is a bedroom." Bunmi said as Tony led her into a well decorated room. "What's this supposed to mean?" She asked. "This is for us." Tony replied. Bunmi took a few steps backwards. "Are you okay? Did you drink more than your system could take?" She asked. "I am perfectly in my right senses. I have always wanted you to be mine Bunmi. I became you company's largest buyer just to make you notice me. I want you to be mine." Tony poured out. "No doubt, we need help here." Bunmi said as she searched for her phone which was nowhere to be found. Then she remembered she had given it to Collins. "I am okay Bunmi. Tell me yes or no. Become my girlfriend." Tony said angrily. "No." Bunmi snapped. "Why?" He asked. "I have a boyfriend and I am closer to getting married to him. I don't know you and the age difference is a turn off. Try someone else." She replied. "That Collins is your boyfriend right? I know what to do." "Nothing must happen to him. Or else, I will make sure you spend the rest of your life in jail." Bunmi screamed. "Good, but even if you won't date me. Get on this bed and let's have fun." Tony commanded. "In your dreams." She laughed. "Don't you sleep with politicians to land your company contracts? Why should my own be different." Tony asked. "You need to read better news about people. SJC is about intergrity, we win contracts on merit." Bunmi replied irritatedly. "Let's see how you win contract without proper financial backing. I will switch alleigance. I will stop buying from you. Let's see what you have then." Tony threatened. "All because you want to get in between my legs? Mr Tony, am disappointed." Bunmi asked. "Is this why you invited me to your party?" "Get out." Obviously embarrassed, he screamed. "Thank you." Bunmi mocked as she walked out of the room. ---- Kike stood beside Collins at the bar as they discussed. Collins had used his experiences at playing casino with his broke friends and the various casino games he has played on his phone and computer, to win Kike and huge amount of money. "So, my name is Kike. Kike Brown." She said. "Are you related to Mr Brown?" Collins asked. "Your husband?" "No, he is my brother." "Wow! Never knew." He retorted. "And now you do." She laughed. "So, tell me, what do you do?" "Baby, I've been searching everywhere for you." Bunmi's voice interrupted them. Collins excused himself and went to meet his girlfriend. "Whatsup?" He asked. "Let's get out of here." She almost commanded. "Why?" "This party is a bad idea, how I wish I had listened to dad." She replied. "Okay, will you at least meet my new friend?" Collins asked. "No." She snapped. "Fine! Let me pick up our phones." He replied as he returned to the bar to pick his stuffs. "Is that your girl?" Kike asked. "what's wrong with her?" She added. "I have to go now." Collins said. "Okay, can I have your number?" Kike asked. A suprised Collins quickly collected her phone and punched in his number. "see you some other time." With this, he returned to where Bunmi stood. "And thanks for the game." Kike called back after him as he exited the room. --- The drive out of the estate was quiet as each of them was deep in their own thoughts. While Collins tried as much as possible to keep his mind on the road, he still couldn't help but think of what could be responsible for Bunmi's sudden change of attitude. "Let's go to your apartment." He heard her say as he turned onto the main road. "Are you sure?" Collins asked, knowing fully well that she has never passed the night in his room. "Yeah." She replied. "What about the mosquitos?" He asked. She smiled as she held his free hand. "I will survive wherever you are." "Okay. And what about work tomorrow?" "Jeez! You ask too many questions. I will call in sick tomorrow." She replied. Collins kept quiet through the rest of the journey, and even the few times they talked, he avoided bringing up the issue of the party and the reason her countenance changed after meeting Tony Brown privately. "Only time will tell." He concluded as he drove into his street. --tbc--

--*-- Tony Brown sat inside his well decorated office with a musical video showing on the flatscreen television hung on the wall to the left of his desk. A knock sounded on the door. "Come in." He said and moments later, the door was pushed open and his personal assistant walked in. "Oh! Malik, I sent for you." "Yes sir, I came as soon as I got the summon." Malik replied as he stood before his principal. Tony picked up a brown envelope from the table and handed it to Malik who took it promptly and took a peak into knowing the content of the envelop. "Go on, check it all out." His boss instructed. "You can use the table over there." He added pointing to the centre table in the mini living room carved out of his office. "Here is okay." Malik replied as he removed two pictures, two white papers from the envelop and looked at his boss for the next line of action. "The guy on the first picture is Mike Collins, he was at my party yesterday as Bunmi Jose's date. Find out more about him, what he does, his net worth, his connections and weaknesses." Tony instructed. "One the other picture is Alhaji Dababa, he is from Niger state. A major supplier of Sugarcane to SJC, seek him out and fix a meeting date between us. His office address is on one of the papers." Tony continued. "And the second paper?" Malik asked. "That is the address of the milling company providing SJC with timber and other furniture materials. I don't know those behind the company, but that's their address there. Seek them out as well, Tony Brown would like to meet them." He concluded. "I'll do just that sir." Malik said assuringly. "I want results as soon as possible." Tony emphasized. Malik nodded in affirmation, a sign that he understood and agreed to his boss' stand before exiting the office. Tony swirled his chair around like a kid sitting on such chair for the first time and with a contented, but wicked smile on his face, he muttered. "Bunmi Jose, you have nowhere to run to." -------- Kike walked out of her room for the first time today after yesterday's hangover where she got drunk and wasted. How she got home remained a mystery to her, because she remembered driving to the venue of the party herself, but she couldn't remember when she drove back home. "You are up?" Alice, her step-mother asked. "Yes Alice." She replied as she walked into the kitchen in search of what to eat. "What the fvck did you guys have for breakfast?" she asked angrily after a futile search around the kitchen. "I've told you countless times, stop using the 'F' word in my presence Kiks." Alice scolded. "You are in position to tell me what to do Alice. I am an adult and I know what is right." Kike replied hotly. "Fine, today is Saturday and I am fasting, so I instructed the maids to limit their cooking to the staffs and not the members of the main house." Alice explained with a smile. She sure enjoys making Kike frown. "What the... You useless fast again?" Kike asked angrily. "After spending majority of your life as a hooker, running after made men's wealth. Now that you are nearer to death, you felt fasting can take you to heaven." "Deal with it. It is either you go back into that kitchen or you remain hungry for the rest of the day. Brat!" With this, Alice stormed out of the living room. Kike angrily marched into her room and placed a call to her brother. "Hello Tony." She said hotly. "Angel Kiks." Tony answered. "Alice is getting on my nerves. There is a limit to what I can take, I hope you know that?" "See, whatever Alice is doing wrongly, you just overlook it." Tony replied, suprising Kike even the more. "Wait! Are you sleeping with her? I mean Alice. Why are you suddenly been cool to her?" Kike asked. "She is dad's wife, I can never do that." Tony replied a bit offended. "Just warn her and make her adhere to the warning." With this, Kike hung up and threw herself on the bed as the thought of her new friend, Collins rushed through her mind. Instantly, her anger dissipated at the thought of him. --tbc--

--*-- "Mr Collins, you've raised three salient points today and we would like you to discuss more, especially the actualization and the long term benefit they will have on the company." Mr Ola, the finance manager requested just before Collins could sit down. Since the begining of the meeting, the finance manager has been asking nerve breaking questions from Collins, but all thanks to his preparedness and confidence, he was able to answer them all. Collins stood up once again. "The first point I raised was Staff's welfare. Especially those in the factories. Because of time, I will give a summary instead of a full report of production in the last nine months." He began. "In August last year. Materials purchased in the sugar mill stood at fifty trucks of sugar cane at a cost of five million naira. Production process costs us a total of 1.7million naira. Now, the end product which is sugar valued at 7million naira which is not supposed to be." Collins paused to crosscheck his statistics. "Shed more light." The finance manager urged. "Considering the fact that the production process stood at 6.7million naira and at the end 7million naira was gotten from sales. Meaning, profit for the month stood at three hundred thousand naira. Salaries of the staffs at the sugar mill stood at four hundred and twenty thousand naira." He paused. "That means the sugar mill was run at a deficit of one hundred and twenty thousand naira for the month of August. Even though that is quite small, if the trend continued for the next nine months, that means almost 1.2million has been lost...." He continued, but was cut short by the finance manager. "If that amount was lost in nine months, does that mean the sugar mill is rigid and couldn't expand to make more profits?" The finance manager asked. "That question should be directed to the finance team. If they keep giving wrong figures and wrong financial advices, the company will keep being run at loss." Collins replied. "You are the head of production, you should know more about productivity and expansion." "On the other hand, productivity and expansion are two different things sir. I can categorically tell you that the finance team led by you is responsible for the problems at hand." Collins replied. The finance manager stood up in anger and took few steps closer to Collins who moved backward by three steps. "Are you accussing me of running the company into debt? Mr Collins." "On the other hand, Mr Ola. The company is not in debt because the furniture factory is making about 300% of its investements. That's about 200% profit and that is being used to run the other factories. Mr Ola, let's call a spade a spade here. The finance team led by you is only interested in the general profit and not profit by each factories. Other factories are incurring debt, but profits from the furniture factory is covering them up. Statistics don't lie." Collins explained. "Am out of here." Ola said angrily as he grabbed his notepad and stormed out of the conference room in annoyance. "Mr Collins, your report would thoroughly scrutinized by the board and we will reach out to you as soon as a decision is made. This meeting has come to an end." The Vice president, David who presided over the meeting in the absence of the president concluded. "Good afternoon everybody." He said as he stood up exchanged pleasantries with a few people and left the room. "Good job." Rukayat's voice brought him out of his reverie as he packed his files. "Thank you." He replied. "But, you are revealing secrets o. And am afraid you are stepping on people's toes." She said. "I'll help you." as she collected his bag inside which his report as well as laptop lay. Collins muttered a thank you as they both walked out of the conference room. "Are you going home now?" She asked. "Yeah." He replied. "I'll drive you." She proposed. "There won't be a need for that." Collins replied. They continued in silence until they entered the parking lot. "You said something about stepping on toes, what do you mean?" He asked. "Well, what I meant is that. The production and the finance team of the past have been in a kind of alliance. They have been running the company into debt and paying off with the little profits. By revealing all these, a lot of people would be sacked and that's dangerous for you." Rukayat explained as she unlocked the doors of her Toyota Rav-4. "But, you can't deny that the company will benefit from my revelation." Collins pointed. "You are right, but I hope you are aware that Mr San Jose himself doesn't own 100% of this company. He owns about 80% and the remaining twenty belongs to two notable people who are staffs of this company and one time production and finance managers in the company. So, there is every possibility that they started the rot." She explained further. "Are you saying the other two shareholders are likely responsible for the rot?" Collins asked. "More like it, and if the board should get a wind of it, they will be sanctioned, and you know what else? These two men will pull out their percentages and SJC can't stand without their 20%." She explained. "On the other hand, the company will survive without them, because you will realize that what is being stolen from the company's coffers is enough to run the company effectively. I'll see you on monday." Collins replied as he walked towards Bunmi's car which he drove to work in the morning, but not after Rukayat had warned him. "Do you think we don't know all these? I served in the finance department as well as production before I was promoted to HR. We all knew the truth, but you can't say it, because you will pay for it, the company would suffer and in the end, you will realize your saying the truth brought the company down." Were her last words. He waited for a minute or two until Rukayat had driven out of the lot before he hoped in and drove out. Rukayat's last words kepts ringing in his head as he drove homewards. --tbc--

--*-- Sunday evening, Bunmi laid on Collins' bed, her head on his laps ass the latter sat on the bed, his back on the wall. "A penny for your thought?" Bunmi asked as she hit Collins playfully on the stomach. "Am just thinking about us." Collins replied. Bunmi snugged even closer to him. She was excited at the mere thought of him thinking about them. "What were you thinking about us?" She asked. "Everything." Collins replied after almost a minute of trying to come up with something. Bunmi stared at him for a while. "You lied. Tell me what you are thinking about." "Its nothing much, I'll be fine." Collins replied. "And that hurt my feelings. I tell you everything, you should do the same." "You didn't tell me what ensued between you and Tony, neither did you tell me the reason we left the party abruptly. So, how come you said you tell me everything?" Collins replied. "You didn't ask me that was why. And moreso, nothing really happened, except that Tony did what every man would do at the sight of anything in skirt." She explained. "Now tell me yours." "Baby, I'll tell you, but I need to establish how true it is. It has to do with the company and how it is being run. The report is on your table, you'll see it tomorrow." Collins replied as he stood up and walked towards the window. "Is it very bad? The company is not in trouble right?" She asked. "It depends on your interpretation, but whatever happens, past production and finance managers must be probed." Collins replied. "Let me read the report first. Remember, work stays in office." Silence enveloped the room for a while until voices of over ten people could be heard at the same time. "Your neighbours are fighting again." Bunmi said. "Am used to their fights." Collins replied. "They almost killed me yesterday. Especially when I went to the kitchen, the called me to settle the dispute. At a point, they almost turned everything on me, as if na me cause the fight." Collins bursted into laughter. "Everytime they ask for your opinion just run away. I was a chief mediator when I first moved in, but after a while, I learnt my lessons." He replied. "More reason why you should move out and get apartment in a good environment." Bunmi said. "That's in my plan, but I need to save up." Collins replied. "How about if I...." Bunmi was saying and as if Collins knew what she wanted to say, he cuts in. "Don't bother. I'll fix myself." He said. "Come on, I knew you won't accept, but I meant if I lend you the money. You can pay back when you have enough." "I know you Bunmi. You won't collect it back. I'll just stay put until I have enough." Collins replied. "Only God can help you. Your defiance and stubborness is first class. You won't collect anything from me, why then are we dating if we can't help each other?" Bunmi lamented. Collins only smiled. "I should go home o. I've spent the whole weekend with you. Work resumes tomorrow."She announced as she stood up. "You will drive me, then come in to tell dad I spent the weekend with you to convince him I didn't attend Tony Brown's party." "Only God will forgive you. But, I still believed dad has his reasons for not wanting you to attend the party." Collins replied as he grabbed a shirt. "Why didn't you tell me this before we went? We are both sinners darling." Bunmi laughed. "You will bring the car back here." She added. "Why?" Collins asked. "To ease your transport stress every morning." She replied. "How then will you get to work tomorrow?" He asked. "Dad's car will come in handy." She replied. "No. Pick me up tomorrow." Collins replied. "It makes no difference." She tried making a protest. "Huge difference my dear." He said. Bunmi shook her head as she followed her boyfriend out of his one room apartment. --tbc--

--*-- The atmosphere inside SJC as Collins drove in through the gate was stuffy and suffocating. Workers were standing in twos and threes discussing. "What's going on?" Bunmi asked after noticing the unusual sight. "I don't know." Collins replied as he brought the car to a halt but Bunmi was half listening. "Dad is even around. He never said he would be coming today." Bunmi almost screamed. "Something is definitely wrong." She added as she alighted, grabbed her handbag and tablet bag and ran off into the building. Collins shrugged as he released himself of the seat belt and got down. "Good morning sir." The valet greeted. "Good morning, the key is inside." Collins replied as he proceeded into his office, while the valet drove the car to the official parking lot. ---- "Good morning ma'am." Her secretary greeted as she walked into her office. "Good morning Tomi." Bunmi replied ash proceeded to the door tagged "PRESIDENT." "Excuse me ma, the CEO would like to see you." Tomi, her secretary informed. "Where is he?" Bunmi asked. "His office." Tomi replied. "Okay, I will see him." "No, he said immediately." Tomi said. Bunmi stood in confusion as she weighed her chances. "Fine, put my bags inside." She said dropping her bags on the secretary's table. "Send in my to-do list for today and whatever assignment I have at eleven, cancel it and fix a meeting with HR." Bunmi instructed as she walked out of the office, headed for her father's office. ------- INSIDE THE CEO'S OFFICE Bunmi sat on the couch in the mini living room while San Jose stood in front of her. "Tell me, what happened here on Saturday." He requested. "Dad, I wasn't around on Saturday." Bunmi replied. "Where were you? Why didn't you come to work on Saturday? Who did you put in charge in your absence?" "Dad! Why all the questions?" Bunmi asked. "I was absent because I was feeling somehow, and normally the Vice president is in charge." She replied. "You think the vice president was in charge, but your boyfriend elected himself to control affairs in your absence, thereby ruining things that we have worked for over the years." San Jose replied. "Dad, who told you all these? You know it is impossible for Collins to do that. Even though he has been impressive since he joined us, that doesn't mean he is the next in line to run the affairs." Bunmi replied. "But, he has been attacking everybody. And he is your boyfriend, what do you expect?" "No dad. No one knew we are dating and moreso, he has been attacking those who are not working as expected." Bunmi defended. "I know you will defend him, now look at this." Her father said as he dropped two letters on the table in front of her. Bunmi picked up the letter and read through, instantly, she was covered with sweat. "Can you see that, the two major shareholders are pulling out for the meantime until we can guarantee them of being ridiculed, and Ola, our best Finance manager has labelled complaints on our new production manager. What does that tell you?" San Jose asked, now visibly angry. "No dad, this is all conspiracy and blackmail..." Bunmi defended. "Shut up. Have you checked your mail, Collins literally took over the presentation on Saturday. And moreso, there wasn't supposed to be a presentation on Saturday, how come?" "Dad, I fixed the presentation to Friday because of its importance, it has to do with the salary review of the staffs among other things." Bunmi replied. "Is Collins now the welfare manager? How is he so sympathetic to the worker's welfare, are they complaining?" San Jose asked. "Dad, he controls 40% of the total staffs, he controls the department that generates income, he can complain if they are not getting enough." Bunmi replied. "Listen to me Bunmi, let's call a spade a spade. Collins is overstepping his boundaries and this is because you are backing him blindly. He is brilliant, agreed, but he doesn't know all." San Jose spoke calmly. "No dad. Whoever gave you the report didn't tell you the truth, even though I haven't gone through the report as well." Bunmi replied. "You see, you've not seen the report and you are defending him." San Jose laughed. "You will have to choose one between me, this company and your Collins." San Jose walked towards the intercom and pressed a digit. "What are you doing?" Bunmi asked. "I want his presence here." He replied. --tbc--

--*-- "Dad, please don't act on what you heard. It will be bad if you attack Collins without hearing his own side." Bunmi pleaded for the upteenth time, even though before her father could reply, a knock interrupted him, and after being asked to come in. Moments later, Collins walked into the office. "Good morning sir." Collins greeted the CEO politely. He flashed a smile at Bunmi who nervously returned the smile. "I sent for you." San Jose said as he returned to his desk. "Sit down." He instructed. "Thank you sir." Collins said as he sat down beside Bunmi. A minute of silence followed as San Jose worked on his computer and the ticking sound of the clock were the only sound audible. "Collins, you started working here when?" San Jose asked. "A little over a week ago sir." Collins replied as he braced himself for whatever was to come. "And what is the description of your job?" San Jose asked. "The Production department sir. As the prodcution manager." He replied. Bunmi who knew where the conversation could be heading to quickly came in. "Dad, this is unecessary. Just give him your message." "Remain quiet there young lady or excuse us. This is what we call boys talk." Her father scolded almost immediately. "Am sorry." She quickly apologized. "Collins, I know how important you are to Bunmi and this company, but I am a man of integrity. I do not celebrate mediocrity, neither am I a hypocrite. I scold when the need arises and I commend when you impress me." San Jose explained. "You are like a son to me. And even if you leave SJC today, how would you fair in another company? I only want the best for you." "I understand sir." Collins replied. "The company is currently in a turmoil and am afraid you are the cause of it. Firstly, our two major shareholders are pulling out their twenty percent and one of our nest hands is threatening to resign." San Jose explained. "I don't know if Bunmi sent you to checkmate them, but whatever it is, I think your presentation on Saturday attacked personality instead of issues." Collins still listened attentively as the CEO spoke. "First, I learnt you started a move for increment of salaries, then you stated on Friday that the company must be restructured, and lastly, you started beaming your flashlight into financial reports of the past years which is a clear violation of our code of conduct." Collins stood up to enable him have a clearer view of San Jose. "With due respect sir, I know I may truly have violated the rules, because I haven't read through the rules, but sir, correct me if am wrong. I have been working according to my job description since I came here." Collins began. "Firstly, the salary review point I raised is not targeted at all the staff but the factory workers. I understand I am not the welfare manager, but I am the production manager, over 35% percent of the total staffs are in the department. Their welfare is up to me and since the welfare department hasn't seen the need to review the salaries, I felt I should wake them. I mean, these people earn less than twenty thousand every month and dividing that by thirty, they are living on less than two dollars. How does it sound if a forty year old family man is earning six hundred naira per day? On this we need a review." Collins explained. "On the issue of restructuring the company, that is up to the management and not me. What I said was restructuring the production department which will in turn affect th company positively in the long run. It is no news that the company is been run with money, and if we can maximize production coupled with sales, the company would benefit." He continued. "And lastly, I am not the finance manager, but I work for the finance manager. My department produces what the sales department sells and the finance department records. Now, it is within the description of my job if I try to know how much the company is making from what I produce. And on the issue of attacking personalities, Mr Ola got me wrong." "Go on." San Jose urged. "I have met and discussed with every head of departments, but Mr Ola refused to honor my invite. The reason behind asking to meet them is to understand the working relationship existing between the departments and also to get reports and understand how each department affects the production unit. Seeing that Mr Ola is not willing to work with me, I decided to go into the book of account and know what is on ground." Collins paused, took a deep breathe and continued. "For the records Mr Chairman sir, economic reports of the United Nations told us that by 2020, every country depending on latex products will suffer an economic decline and also, the demand for locally made sugar will fall. And by that 2020, textile and fashion industry will grow tremendously and the funitur or timber industry will be a front runner." "I believe we don't need to wait until the fall in these industries before we act. By the statistics with me, the sugar mill is incuring a debt of 150% of what it is gaining at the end of the year. That is, if profit is at 1million naira, debt is at 2.5million and removing loss of profit, we have a deficit of 1.5million. Sir, we need a upward review. A cost reflective sale should be implemented. The sugar mill should stand on its own, the plastic industry should be alone, textile should make enough money to pay its workers salary. We shouldn't run the company as a whole with profits made from Furniture and textile while the sugar mill continues to wallow in debt which in the last decade has run into billions of naira." Collins paused. San Jose stared at the young man for a while, cleared his throat and spoke. "You can go." "Sir?" Collins asked. "You are free to return to your office. Thank you for your time." San Jose repeated. "Okay sir." Collins bowed slightly and exited the office. "Now what?" Bunmi asked. "You are not sacking him are you? Obviously, he made cool points." "He is more brilliant than I thought. He understood business, despite being a graduate of Chemistry." San Jose laughed. "You see now dad, I will pick Collins first anyday. His brain and brilliance is what we need to move forward. Dad, give him the free hand to checkmate every activity within the company." Bunmi pleaded. "You are in charge, you are the president. Do whatever is right." San Jose replied. "Thank you daddy. But, you owe me one, considering the fact that you asked me, a grown up to shut up." She said amidst laughter. "Send memos to the board of directors. A lunch meeting should be set up." San Jose instructed. "Invite Collins." He added. Bunmi stopped in her tracks. "Invite Collins to the boardroom? What is dad playing at?" She thought. "I'll do just that." She replied as she walked out. --tbc--

--*-- Its been two weeks and everything was going fine at SJC for Collins who is now treated like a hero of some sort or better still revered and feared by his colleagues who believed he is witch hunting them for their wrong doings. Clement walked the distance from his office to the furniture factory, and just outside the very big building where various furnitures are being made, a guard gave him a helmet which he put on his head, after which he signed attendance, only then was he allowed into the factory. One of the solutions he had proferred at the board meeting weeks ago was accountability and responsibility. Which is why, there is nowhere any staff can enter without having to sign a register to confirm that he/she was there at that particular time, making him or her accountable and responsible for any occurence within that timeframe. "Weldone." He greeted a few guys who were sowing upholstries at a side of the factory. He walked deeper into the factory and supervised for a couple of minutes until he recieved a call demanding his presence at the president's office. As he rushed out of factory, he bumped into Rukayat who almost fell down if not for Collin's quick intervention as he held her tight against himself until she was steady enough. "That felt good." She remarked. "What?" Collins asked. "The way you held me. You sure know how to hold a woman, no wonder Bunmi fell for you." She winked. Of all the staffs at SJC whom he had conversed with outside official duty, only Rukayat and Ola, the finance manager call Bunmi by her first name. Other member of the staffs, including the very elderly board members with adressed her as Miss Bunmi or Madam President. It got all strange because as far as he was concerned, he hadn't seen Bunmi discuss with the two of them outside official duty. The only time they talked is during meetings, one can only wonder why they called her by her first name. "I gotta run along now." Collins said. "Not when I am here to see you and assist you." She replied. "How do you mean?" "You know I have no business in the factory, but seeing you here, I have nothing doing, so I felt I should come keep your company." She explained. Collins laughed. "I guess you paid someone to watch my every steps in this company. You are everywhere I go." Rukayat smiled. "You know, my birthday is next weekend and I don't know what to do." Collins, even though 'crazily' in love with Bunmi, he couldn't deny the chemistry between himself and Rukayat, even though he knew it is just ordinary likeness, as a result of being friends, and even the times Bunmi complained about their closeness, he always gave the excuse of being really good friends. "Do you want to have a big party?" Collins asked. "Tell me what to do." Rukayat replied as she held his hands and walked away from the premises of the furniture factory. Collins gave her a strange look. "Sorry." She smiled as she released his hand. They continued walking until they stopped outside the rubber factory where several plastic products and other latex products were being loaded for shipment. Roland was supervising the whole excercise. "Oga Collins." He hailed as he ran to meet them just before they got to the trucks. "Miss Rukayat, good morning." He bowed for Rukayat slightly. "Roland, weldone." Rukayat smiled. "How far?" Collins asked. "We are loading after which we will move to the warehouse." Roland replied. "I hope every production is accounted for?" Collins asked as he collected the register where the figures are recorded. "Even the wastes will be recycled for subsequent production." Roland replied. "Great." Collins said as he signed at the foot of register. By now, Rukayat was admiring the products inside the trucks. "Hey!" Collins called as he walked over to her. "You know, you are a genius." She replied with a smile. "So, we were saying something. Your birthday." He changed the topic. Collins was deeply engrossed in chatting with Rukayat until he heard workers greeting someone with excess respect. Alas! Bunmi was there. "Hey." She called at Collins who turned to face her. "Hello Bums." Rukayat said as she excused them. "I sent for you, but you didn't show up." "Sorry, work related issue brought me here." He replied. "With Rukayat?" She asked. "Okay, its fine. The company is shipping new cars for new senior staffs in two days time, see the welfare manager for the details and how the loan will be repayed." She quickly added. "Okay." He replied. "Okay? Is that what you'll say?" Bunmi attacked. "Anyways, have fun." With this, she walked away. --tbc--

--*-- Tony descended the stairs into the living room where his visitors sat waiting for him. "Good evening Mr Brown." One of them with a thick Hausa accent greeted as they all stood up to welcome their host. "Good evening gentlemen." He replied as he stopped before them and shook hands with them. Numbering up to four in total. "Oh! We have a woman with us." He said dreamily as they all bursted into laughter. "Good evening sir." The young lady dressedi in a white shirt and black trouser greeted taking the billionaire's hand in hers. "Are you a woman or a lady?" Tony in the mood for jokes asked. "A lady gradually becoming a woman." She replied and everyone laughed again. "After two kids?" One of the men asked amidst laughter, only then did Tony notice the ring of her fourth finger. "Let's get to business. Pllease sit." He said pointing to the couches they had stood from. "I believe you must have met Kike Brown." He said as he pointed at Kike who sat in another living room. The visitors all greeted her and she replied with a smile. "Where's Malik?" Tony asked no one in particular. "Here sir." Malik's voice came on as he rushed into the room with a laptop computer in hand. One of the men stood up and began his presentation. "We have been able to achiever our set goal within two weeks during which we monitored the activities around SJC, as well as their partners and I can categorically tell you we've won their partners over to our side and they are ready to play ball." "What are their terms?" Tony asked. The only woman in the team stood up and began; "It is a case of using what we have to get what we want. Even though it is not a win win situation, we still got about 70% win and 30% loss. As we all know, SJC deals with four main industries which are, rubber, textile, furniture and a sugar mill. As we gathered, SJC is a consumer in the face of the producers of these raw materials and the best way to bring them down is by turning their suppliers against them. Now, their major timber supplier has agreed to give them substandard planks for the next six weeks and we will pay two million per week. The latex industry has agreed to put extra time into refining the latex, simple maths. To produce anything strong from latex, the raw latex must be refined once, but now, the suppliers have promised to refine the latex twice before sending over for the next three weeks. This is a backdoor deal, so, we will pay their team of laboratory experts two hundred thousand weekly. In the case of the cotton supplier, it is being imported, so we couldn't do anything. The sugarcane supplier is going to mix ant infested sugarcane with the good ones. Primarily, the infested sugarcanes are used in the production of brown sugar, now mixing them together, the result will be brown-white. A brown-white sugar gives everybody the thought that the sugar is expired and slowly, they loose consumers." She paused to see the reaction of her audience, basically, Tony and his PA. She smiled when she saw the curious looks on their faces. "We experienced a bit of problem with their consumers because they are too many, but a major consumer of the furniture industry is your company sir, withdraw your purchase and watch them crumble. Other customers will withdraw when they begin to see changes in their outputs. I rest my case sir." The young lady sat down. "Can all these be undone easily?" Tony asked. "Yes sir." They chorused. "Good! Malik, play them the clip." Immediately, Malik turned the laptop screen to face them and the looks on their faces was priceless. "In case any of you tried to play smart, I have your balls in my hand." With this, he stood up and exited the living room leaving everybody dumbstruck, including Kike who immediately went after him. She caught up with him just as he got to the balcony. "Why are you doing this? SJC is not in a competition with us." She asked. "Am doing this for you." Tony replied as he lit up his cigarette and drew in the flames which he subsequently puffed out. --tbc--

--*-- It is time for another presentation, and this time, it was presentation to review the activities of the company in the last thirty days. Bunmi Jose as usual presided over the meeting and was deputized by the Vice president, while the secretary to the president's office took down the minutes and proceedings. Addressing the house was the welfare manager and his presentation was titled; FIRST OF ITS KIND. He was rounding up the presentation as he had spoken about the latest decision of the welfare team to provide more security to life, property and above all, to the jobs of every staffs at SJC despite having a little amount of money at the start of the month. "For the first time in the history of our great company, the suggestion box located at the entrance into every department as well as the factories were found empty and the biggest of them all is the commitment of the factory worker who spoke through their boss, Mr Janson. After the successful review of their salary scale and the approval of the board, all thanks to Mr Collins, they have vowed to put in their best everytime. Little wonder our production ranked at maxi, as of 11:59PM yesterday." He raised a few more point which further drew applause from everybody in attendance and all of his points had one or two things to do with Collins. He either submitted the request or called the management's attention to the request. By the time it got to Collin's turn to present, he was feeling on top of the world already, and amidst a loud ovation which was started by the HR, he stood up. "Permit me to stand on existing protocol as I move to brush through in summary as the full report has been submitted to everybody's mailbox." He began. Since he started work, he had ensured that he kept in touch with every department, little wonder, he presents summary during presentations while the full report has been sent to everybody. "You are always doing summary." Rukayat joked as everyone bursted into laughter including Collins whose eyes immediately darted to Bunmi's who as usual had a frown on. She has been in that state for the past three days, since she discovered he(Collins) refused to honour her call because he was with Rukayat and her cold behaviour has been noticeable. Even when the Vice president of SJC told Rukayat to say the opening prayer when the meeting started, Collins could swear on his life that Bunmi never said AMEN to any of her prayers. Collins knew he had offended her, expecially when he displayed a non challant attitude towards the official car loan system he was awarded. The rules of the company says after three months of service as a manager, but Bunmi boycotted the rule and ensured that he was given the form to apply for an official car, lss than twenty-seven days of service to the company. He had rejected her gesture on the ground that he would work for the required three months before applying for an official car, and Bunmi had reacted angrily. "Production at the start of the month was not that effective according to statistics showing on the screen, but I dare tell you that each of our industries recorded uniform growth as the month progressed. Production stood at 78% when I came in in the overall, that is all the industries. Over 400%, rubber peaked 73%, textile at 80%, Sugar peaked 89.1% and furniture was at 77%. The first week, respectively, the industries recorded, 74.5%, 81.5%, 90.6% and 78.5%, the second week, there was no noticeable growth as we embarked on the restructuring process, even though production was the same as the first week, our sales increased as we sold all our stock. The third week, production increase was at, 75%, 82%, 91% and 79% respectively, the last week which end tomorrow, growth stood at 75.1%, 82.1%, 91.1% and 79.1% respectively. Meaning, production increase in each industry over a period of four weeks stood at 2.1% the third highest ever recorded in the company and the first time such was recorded during a production manager's first month. Other managers set a benchmark after almost six month, but I set mine in thirty days and today I pledge to work more harder to record and beat the production increase record for a month which is currently 3.0%, achieving that in a month is not a problem for me and then, I wll call it COLLINS BENCHMARK FOR PRODUCTION." He paused as the applause grew louder than his voice. His eyes darted over to Bunmi, this time she was all smiles as she clapped happily. "God, be blessed." He murmured as he rounded up and returned to his seat. Thirty minutes later, the meeting dissolved after the president had challenged everyone of them to do more to take the company higher. --tbc--

--*-- Work has ended for the day and Collins as usual had signed out for the day, now heading to the parking lot where Rukayat was waiting to drive him a considerable distance near his apartment as she has done in the last few days during which Bunmi denied him free ride to and fro. Even though Rukayat is not responsible for driving him to work every morning, at least, he is greatful that he won't have to wait for hours at the bus-stop after a very stressful day at work. "Hop in handsome." Came Rukayat's voice as she opened the passenger door from him. If there was one thing he loved about the lady, it was her composure while behind the wheel and looking at he while driving, one can not but conclude that the car was specially made for her, to suit and compliment her figure. Just as Collins made to enter the car, Bunmi's Hyundai drove and stopped beside them. Collins didn't even notice she has changed her car. "I will drive you." She said to Collins who immediately restrained himself from entering Rukayat's car. "Well, I offered to drive him first." Rukayat replied. "Sorry to burst your bubble, he is my boyfriend. You can only drive him when am not here." Bunmi countered. Rukayat smiled as she fastented her seatbelt. As if on cue, Collins shut the passenger side's door and immediately she ignited the car. "A nice ride you have there Bums." Rukayat remarked as she sped off immediately. Collins faced his girlfriend who was smiling at him like she just won a lottery. And without being told, he walked to the passenger side and made to open, but the door was locked. Bunmi smiled even more as she spoke to him for the first time. "Don't let your pride destroy what we have built. I apologize to you at every slight mistake I commit. You should do the same, especially when your offence is a grave as this. Apologizing doesn't portray as a weak man, but as a man of peace." She adviced like a mother would advice her son. "Actually, I am headed for a meeting in town, so I won't be able to drive you, but at least, Rukayat won't drove you either. See you on Monday." With this, she sped off like in a speed of light. Collins stood in confusion as he weighed his options. He looked around the wide parking lot, the cars had tremedously reduced and he wasn't willing to ask other people for help. "Maybe calling Rukayat to help will do." He thought and just then he heard comeone call his name. Alas! It was Roland. "Come on in." He urged and without thinking, Collins hopped into the mini truck which belonged to the company's production department. "You shouldn't let women bother you that much Oga Collins, but you have to learn to relate with them." Collins said as he signed out at the main gate and immediately swung unto the main road. "You can take one of these mini trucks and use as your vehicle, pending the time that you get your own car." Roland adviced. "Can I?" Collins asked. "There are three of them and they belong to the production department, you are the boss there, they are your care." Roland explained. "I'll think about it." "Oga Collins, I think you are taking Miss Bunmi's gentility for granted. I understand the need to make friends and relate with people, but not anywhere near your woman. Rukayat has history with men who have worked here, Miss Bunmi is aware of that, but she wants you to do what is right. If Miss Bunmi is the jealous type, she would have sacked Rukayat a long time ago, but she didn't, with the hope that you'll change. And as it stands, you can't do without Rukayat, you supervise together, do production works together, enter conference rooms for meeting together, leave together, everything where Miss Bunmi can see you. Be careful." "But I have never flirted with Rukayat, not to take of cheating on Bunmi with her. Even Rukayat, even though she flirts, she has never seduced me. We are just friends, that's all." "I understand you point of view but women see every female friends of their men as a potential rival. Miss Bunmi will one day react angrily and you won't like it. Do what is worth doing. Miss Bunmi or nobody else." Roland concluded as he stopped to observe the traffic light which just turned red. "You are not even married. What do you know about women?" Collins asked moments later, but Roland ignored him, afterall, he had passed accross his message to him. --tbc--

--*-- There is a new Sheriff in town, so everybody has to obey, every tax defaulter has to pay up. When he asks for silence, everyone has to comply. The same way, Kike Brown is in the Central mall and everyone has to follow orders, not without the fierce looking men she used as bodyguards. The Central mall was built many years ago by the then colonial government of Lytletton and over the years, maintenance and renovation from the Nigerian government has kept the business joint which represent the Nigerian version of the World trade center. Sadly, the WTC has been non-existent since the unfortunate 9/11, but several word trade center-like building are in major cities of the world. Inside the central mall, there are fifteen floors and on each floor are several business places. Boutiques, supermarkets, phamaceutical stores, hospitals, law firms and consultancy offices to mention a few. Kike brown stood in between her guards who were surveying the entire ground floor which is unoccupied by anybody, except the staffs of the mall who were always on hand to give directives to visitors in locating their destination within the mall. The hall also served as a waiting room and an advertisement platform as here and there one could see banners and miniature billboards with inscriptions like; Daniellah Baby stores, 4th floor. S.Johnson and co legal chamber, 10th floor among others. "Excuse me ma'am, I am the CSO. And as the chief security officer of this mall, I plead with you to please take a sit over there while you wait for your friend. Your presence..." The man let his voice trail. "Sorry, I mean the presence of these gentlemen." He said pointing to the two guards with a pleading smile. "Is intimidating the users of the mall. They seemed to be the centre of attraction." Kike glanced at her wrist watch and smiled. "Am sorry, Mista security, I am not moving an inch until the person I am waiting for arrives."She replied. "But, madam, everyone is terrified. They are afraid your men will attack them." The CSO replied. "You don't get it, do you?" Kike asked. "I am a Brown. Everyone who is terrified should hang outside until am done. Once I leave, they can go in and do whatever." She replied and immediately, one of the two bodyguards approached the security man and tapped his chest twice. "Get outta here." He said, and without another word, the CSO left. Almost immediately, Kike saw the person she has been waiting for. Since she knew of her brother's plan to destroy SJC, she has been doing everything within her power to warn the president at SJC, Bunmi Jose. Every attempt of hers have either been blocked by Bunmi's secretary or the network operator's office at SJC. She has repeatedly asked for a meeting with Bunmi, but she has always been denied the chance. She then paid some guys to stalk the beautiful lady and then they came up with the report that, every last day of the month, Bunmi attends a French class somewhere in the central mall. And following the tip off, here she was waiting for her. "You guys go and wait for me at the parking lot. Your presence will scare her." she instructed her guards who disappeared immediately, just in time when Bunmi walked into her, as she was deeply engrossed in whatever she was doing on her phone to the extent that she didn't watch where she was going. "Hi." Kike greeted with a smile. "Hello." Bunmi replied trying to recollect where she had seen the beautiful face before her. "I have actually been meaning to see you for a while now. Can we head somewhere and talk?" She asked. "Pardon? Do you know me?" Bunmi asked. "Everybody knows Bunmi Jose. Please, don't say no. Its important we talk now." Kike replied. "Am sorry, I don't meet with strangers. You can call at SJC on monday, I will meet you then." Bunmi explained politely as she made to leave, but Kike blocked her. Still with a smile. By now, Bunmi couldn't keep her cool anymore. "Excuse me. You are harrassing me." "Sorry." Kike said as she stepped aside for her, and immiediately, Bunmi walked away. Kike thought about letting her go, but on a second thought, she really wanted to help. "Wait! Its about the company. Its about SJC." She said loudly. Bunmi turned to face her. "What do you know about SJC?" She asked before walking away. Kike stood transfixed as she watched her target slip out of hand. She saw Bunmi exchange pleasantries with a familiar face at the door and just as Kike moved closer, the man who had recognized her spoke. "Miss Kike Brown, we met again. How cool?" "Do I know you?" "Its me, Ade from the supermarket show of superiority." The man replied. "I don't have your time." With this, she walked past him. "We sure will meet again, but then, its going to be uncool, believe me." He threatened. Even though his threats sent shivers down her spine, she waved it as nothing; "afterall, I am a Brown. I have power." --tbc--

--*-- Collins sat in his office as he prepared for the first presentation of the new month. A couple of report papers are scattered all over his table as he tried to find a means to arrest the decline in the production for the month which has been halfed already. Just eighteen days ago, at the end of last month, SJC recorded a 2.1% increase and by the middle of the new month, production has dropped to 1.7% and by the permutation he and his team did, they arrived that, if care is not taken, production will fall to 1.5% or even lower. As a graduate of Chemistry, he has made it a point of duty to study business during his leisures and he never failed to follow business trends as he is a member of the Largest business forum in Africa. He read a lot and his reading seemed to have yielded positive result during his first month, halfway into his second month, things seemed to be turning wrong and if care is not taken, production will fall beyond the mess he met on ground. The door into his office opened as his bestfriend, Rukayat walked in. "Hello handsome." She smiled. "Hey." He replied non challantly as he returned to his computer where he made last minute moves of sending the full version of his presentation to every department for review. "You good?" Rukayat asked seeing the look on his face. "Yeah, just nervous, that's all." He replied as he sighed. He re-arranged his table, getting the papers needed for his presentation ready. "I will do that for you. We are running out of time." Rukayat said as she stopped him for doing anything further. "Just enter the restroom and wash your face, you look tired." She advised. Like a zombie, he walked out of the office leaving Rukayat behind to finish the rearrangement on his behalf. Five minutes later, they were heading towards the conference hall which is located at the very far end of the enormous land mass on which SJC was built. From the gate, the conference hall is about three minutes drive and a five minutes walk. "You see, when I first came here, I did very badly that I almost resigned. I didn't get myself together until after six months, all thanks to Mr San Jose continued support for me. I once misfiled a call for my boss then, but the moment I got things right, I became a boss. Even when I was transferred to head HR, I still fumbled, but the truth is. What you have in you never dies. I never studied anything relating to my job description when I was in school, it was pure finance or accounting. And you too, you did Chemistry, now handling production and I can tell you, SJC has never had it so good. You are the best production manager. You got things right immediately." She spoke as they walked. "But, I got it wrong already." Collins argued. "Better now than later. There used to be a certain Mr Vincent heading finance years back. When he came on board, he ran a cost effective finance unit. He identified problems, solved them and things went right. He got board approval to lay off some of the staffs in the department to reduce the money being pumped into salary. He led the department for two year with six other members, but after two years, these people couldn't work effectively because the work meant for eighteen people is being done by seven men. Vincent was sacked for this reason and even the then welfare manager was sacked, as well as the Personnel manager. What I am saying in essence is, these men lost their job two years after they made a cost reduction policy. And their two years of service forgotten, but you having problems now, means, getting it right now, getting it right for ever." Collins went silent for a while, he only spoke up when they walked through the flower lawns leading to the conference hall. "I know what to do." He smiled. "That's it. Don't let people know there is a problem in the unit. Tell them everything is under control, keep assuring them while at the same time, you are working on fixing the problem. I hope you understand?" With this, Rukayat walked into the hall. Collins breathe in deeply as he walked in as well and immediately, about fifteen pairs of eyes turned to him. "Sorry, am late." He said as he proceeded to his designated seat. "Welcome sir." Janson said as soon as he sat down beside him. "Observing due protocol, Mr Collins, go ahead and make your presentation." That was when Collins realized that the Vice president was presiding over the meeting. Collins developed a cold feet instantly, as he walked towards the giant HD screen where his report was being displayed. "Mr Collins, how will you explain the present fall in production?" The Vice president asked before he could settle himself. "And extensively explain how prodution growth was uniform last month." Ola, the finance boss added. "You guys should ask a question at a time." Rukayat came to his rescue just in time when the door opened and Bunmi walked in. "Sorry am late." --tbc--

--*-- Tony was seated in his office when the door opened suddenly and his friend, Blaise walked in furiously. Tony's secretary was trying to stop the Frebch man, but his anger won't let him be fazed. "Hello Blaise." Tony greeted immediately he recovered from his shock. "Sir, I tried to stop him, but he woldn't listen." Tony's secretary quickly explained. "You can go Maggie." Tony waved the lady off before turning to Blaise who was obviously very angry. Tony stood up and approached him with a smile, but got the shock of his life when Blaise's strong hands grabbed him by the neck and subsequently slammed his back against the wall. "How could you Tony?" He asked. "Come on man, you are choking me." Tony said through gritted teeth, when the pressure over his throat became unbearable. "I came here to kill you. You son of a b!tch. You killed my business, now you want to buy it off." Blaise screamed. "What games are you playing?" "I am playing no games. I am merely expanding my chain of business." Tony replied. "Expanding your own company at my own detriment?" Blaise asked with eyes wide opened. "Am afraid yes. You were too stupid to spot my motives." Tony replied as he burst out laughing. "I'll kill you." With all the strength he could muster, Blaise tightened his grip on Tony's neck. This time, ready to snuck life out of him. Just that moment, the door into the office burst open and Tony Brown's personal assistant ran into the office. He instantly made for Blaise and delivered a huge punch to his jaws. Immediately, Tony freed himself of his one time friend, now assailant's grip. Malik moved closer to Blaise with a rain of punches hitting him all over his face and chest, such that, byt the time he was done, one could hardly recognize the frenchman. "Call security." Tony instructed once he was satisfied with Malik's work. "Yes sir." With this Malik walked out of the office with the phone placed close to his ear. Tony returned to his seat while throwing provocative comments at Blaise who dare not say a word as he was outnumbered and outmanned. "You are a b#stard. You had the nerve to come into my office. I think you should have invited me to France to let your anger known." Tony said. "You won't get away with this." Blaise threatened. "How?" Tony asked with a tone of mockery. "I have the support of my government. Just so you know, the French ambassador to Nigeria is aware of my visit to your office. Going back with a scratch is enough evidence to drag you to court." He explained. "I love court cases." Just then Malik returned with a team of bodyguards stormed the office, and with little or no struggle, Blaise was dragged out. "Where the hell were you all the while he was in here with me?" Tony faced Malik angrily once they were alone. "Am sorry sir, I was attending to the press." Malik replied. "What do you suggest we do for that son of a b!tch?" "Killing him is not an option. Hold him until he is ready to negotiate his release." Tony replied and waved Malik off. "Alright sir." With this, the young personal assistant walked out of the office. --tbc--

--*-- A philosopher once said; "Every challenge is a lesson to know that life is not a bed of roses." As much as a lot of people will not agree to the quote, one cannot but agree partially because at one point in time, we have all faced challenges which in turn made us who we are today. A man of God once said in his preaching; "Every human will face one challenge or the other, because even Jesus Christ was faced with temptation." By personal belief, temptation is the biggest challenge, and only a few have gone without falling. Even Adam and Eve did fall into temptation. A teacher of mine once said challenges that doesn't come in form of temptation comes in form of disappointment. And he said further that if a disappointment is not a blessing in dusguise, it is a lesson. Basically, every human faced with challenges in guise of disappointment would feel he has been let down by God, but remembering that the devil told Jesus to bow for him and the world would be his. A man faced with disappointment is likely to be tempted into serving something different from God because basically, he thinks he has been let down. Several career counsellors, advisers have times without numbers explained that every new employee is going to face a challenge threatening enough to make him quit his job or sacked. The challenge may be in his job or from his colleagues. But whichever ways, such challenges either make or mar us. The challenge of every man, community, state or nation starts with finance and economy. Every man at the start of the month tries to project his spendings for the next thirty days towards his salary. Every community depends on levies from members for developmental levies and every state or Nation writes a budget which serves as a guide for one economic-calendar year. "I think now that Madam President is on seat, she should preside over the meeting." A manager from welfare department suggested. "No, I think present protocol should duely be observed." Bunmi replied meaning that the vice president would continue in the capacity of acting chairman of the conference. Meanwhile, Collins stood in a state of confusion, seperating the wheat from the chaff in his idea as he looked to turn the conference into his favour. After a few words of encouragement from a long time staff of SJC, Rukayat, he felt the need to convince his colleagues from other department, even without a laid down defence, he knew he could as well turn things in his favour. But entering the conference room to see the vice president at SJC presiding over the conference and the finance manager, Mr Ola deputizing, he knew he was in for a tough time. "Back to you Mr Collins. Production is falling, quality is wearing out, quantity is on the increase, returns and profit is low, what do you think?" The Vice president asked. "The production fall is a means to an end." Collins replied. "How?" The Vice president asked. "Everyone will agree with me that production is average when I came on board, and after a month, production rose well above average." Collins began and he could see the level of attention everyone gave him. Obviously, they all loved listening to him, especially on matters like this. A smile was evident on Bunmi's face, likewise Rukayat who had her hands set readily for applause. "We need stability in production first before thinking of increase. Now, the best way to stabilize production in a company like ours is to test the waters. Test the high and the low. Test the positive and negative, then draw a perfect plan to stabilize on the positives." He explained. "Are you saying the production fall is intentional?" The Vice president asked. "That was why I said it is a means to an end. You all are aware that am new here and recording success in my first attempt without first understanding how things work here will only result in failure. So, yes. The fall is near intentional." He explained. "How quickly do you intend to lift production from its current state?" Mr Ola, the finance manager asked. "Two weeks." Collins replied. The hall went silent for a few seconds before the Vice president's voice came on. "Mr Collins, taking a decision to drop production is simillar to devaluation. Did you consult the finance, sales or your fellow production team?" The Vice president asked. The question seemed to throw Collins off guard. Firstly, he hadn't consulted anybody, and even though he could have lied, he knew his fellow production team won't deny him, same with the Sales manager who is very cool, but his problem is the finance unit led by Mr Ola. "Yes, I contacted the Sales and my fellow production experts and...." Collins lied, even though not convincing. "Me too." Bunmi cuts in. "Pardon?" The vice president asked as all eyes turned to the president. "He consulted me before taking the decision." She replied. --tbc--

--*-- Kike Brown sat inside on her bed, her laptop opened before her. But her attention was not on the laptop computer, neither was her attention on the music video being shown on the flatscreen television hung on the wall opposite the bed. But, her attention was on her tablet on which serveral pictures of Mike Collins(the guy he met at her brother's party) She had no idea why she was obsessed with the guy, even though she is a young lady with class. Who will never date a salary earner, except if he is a director at Chevron or Shells petroleum where he earns six figures at per month. Her target has always being on one of the young billionaire entreprenuers. But since she met Collins briefly, the handsome guy who is a mere Production manager, whose take home at the end of the year couldn't be more than two hundred thousand naira. Just then the intercom beside her bed rang and she promptly picked it up. "Okay, am coming." She replied and immediately she dropped the call, she got out of bed, adjusted her gown and proceeded to walking out of the room with her phone and tablet. "Is this really you?" Kike screamed as she descended the stairs in a hurry, skipping some steps in the process. "Yes babes, this is me." A young lady who couldn't be more than twenty five replied. Everything about the lady oozed class, from her versace gown, down to her purse, her wristwatch, her wedge and jewelleries. "Amanda Brown?" Kike asked. "Yes o." The lady, Amanda replied as she hugged her big cousin. Amanda Brown as the name implies is Kike's cousin, even though younger by by two years, Kike still treated her like her agemate. Both ladies have been friends since childhood as Chief Brown had adopted Amanda to keep Kike's company, being the only one at home in the absence of Tony who was in school then. Amanda and Kike grew into notorious twins as people called them and they shared almost everything. Even though five years ago, when Kike originally finished her tertiary education, and incident took place which in turn brought bad blood between the once close friends, sisters. No one knew the exact thing that brought about enemity as they both bottled it up, even though their parents did everything humanly posible to bring them back together, but the truth is, the two girls only agreed to the reconcilation in a bid to satisfy their parents. Whoever wronged the other, no one knows. "How are you?" Kike asked as they both sat down on the three seater couch. "Am good." Amanda replied. "You done with your programme right? I saw the pictures on Instagram." Kike said. "Yeah. I now have a second degree in business administration." Amanda replied. "Good to know. What about the guys in America?" Kike asked. "Everyone is good." Amanda replied. "There is this guy, Mensah from Ghana, the last time we talked, he said something about returning to Havard for his Masters." Kike asked bringing back old memories. "Mensah? That slowpoke, he never returned to Havard. He is married with kids in Dallas now." Amanda replied. "And these playboy crew, I've forgotten their names. But we attended a whole lot of their shows in my final year." "They disbanded already. The dark skinned one, Robert works at Microsoft, the blond guy is the youngest congressman in the US parliarment. The leader, Ivica, the Croatian died in a car crash the same day he was nominated to run for Vice presidency in his home country. Psy, the chinese is the only one who continued with music." Amanda explained. "Wow! There used to be this Russian chic. Olga or something was her name." "Olga, yeah she married Professor Thaudson, the serving Governor of Moscow." Amanda replied. "Everyone we knew is either out there making it. I must make it too." Kike said. "Those are your classmates then. Remember?" Amanda reminded her cousin. "Yeah. So, what do I offer you?" Kike asked. "Soda water will do." She replied. "You still have a thing for Soda and scotch?" Kike asked as she made for the bar. "Are you still in touch with Malik?" Amanda asked her first question. Kike stopped in her tracks in shock. She turned to face Amanda with a sober look on her face. "Amy babe, I thought that was in the past, we settled didn't we?" She asked. "Sorry, I only felt like asking. He is an old friend, no matter what happened." Amanda replied. "Just shake it off and get me my drink." She added. Kike smiled in appreciation as she continued her journey. "Where's your accent?" She asked from the bar as she picked drinks. "This is Nigeria, your accent doesn't put food on your table." Amanda replied. Kike smiled. Amanda is the only girl she has seen who doesn't think more of herself. Even though she is a billionaire's daughter, she still believed in making her own money, away from her father. --tbc--

Hey guys! My absence has been down to the fact that I was the umpire at the just concluded Miss & Mr coolval contests which ended during the Christmas and New year period, so I literally went on vacation the whole time. This is 2016, here I am with the continuation of the story, and this time, no stopping till the end. I hope we can finish this story before February. But away from that, there is a good news. One of my stories, THE THOMAS will no longer be available on the web. I will no longer be able to complete it on Coolval. The reason is; I have entered an agreement with a movie producer, and we decided that the story should be adapted into a movie. That's a goodnews for me. An advancement in my career. It would have been a lot easier if I was producing or working with the producer, but here, I am selling the story completely. Afterall, I have a lot of stories to offer. And the price on the story is quite exhorbitant and cool. So, for copyright reasons, I will take the story off, but will replace it with a new blockburster. I am happy because you guys were part of my success story, I hope to write on coolval for as long as possible.

--*-- Talk about getting a timely rescue or helper from above. No where in his wildest dream did he ever imagine Bunmi coming to his rescue at a point like this. First of all, he had failed in his job to lift productivity for the second month running, secondly, he is not really in good terms with Bunmi, therefore, he wasn't expecting help from her. Lastly, he had lied his way through, and here, he was about getting out of trouble. "Permit me to ask, Mr Collins. It is not in your job descreption to report to Miss Bunmi, how come you had to report to her, when clearly, you shouldn't have?" The Vice president asked. "First of all, I am friends with Miss Bunmi beyond the walls of this company. I only briefed her and she consented. Moreso, I don't remember being told to only talk to certain people when I got here." Collins explained. "It seems someone is having issues with Mr Collins. Do not bring personal issues into meetings like this." Rukayat cuts in. "Breach of protocol Miss Rukayat." The viice president said, "Sorry for that, but you have asked one too many qyestions from Mr Collins. Production is falling, what is the cause? He already told you. Your question now should be, how will he lift production from its current state, not attacking his sensitivity." Rukayat explained. The room went silent, as Collins stood still waiting for the next question. "I agree with Rukayat." Bunmi said. "Okay Mr Collins, what is the way forward?" Ola, the finance manager asked. "I believe producing our own raw materials would do us good." Collins replied. His latest reply seemed to pique everybody's interest, as they all turned their attention to him. "How?" Bunmi asked. "It is a long term plan, but we can achieve it within short period. We start planting and harvesting raw materials like sugar cane, latex, wood and cotton." He explained. "Latex three takes more than five years, timber takes the same time to fully develop, cotton takes a year or two, sugar cane takes months. How does long term plans increase our productivity?" Bunmi asked. "We simple enter an agreement with local farmers. All the aforementioned products would be planted for our use. We will pay them monthly. Their farm becomes SJC's asset." He explained. "Good. Do what you have to do and let me know as you progress." Bunmi said. "Let us not jump the gun here. As good as his suggestion sounds, there is more to it." the vice president objected. "Forget whatever you two have between you. This is business." "Can you prove that there is something between us?" Bunmi asked standing up. "This meeting is suspended." And with this. She stormed out of the hall. Collins seeing that as an opportunity to settle issues with his girlfriend immediately packed his stuffs and followed. --tbc--

--*-- BUNMI Someone told me am loosing it. My cousin Dave told me I was blindly in love when I explained my present predicament to him. In the last seven days, I have flown from Nigeria to America, to Belgium and finally Paris before returning to Nigeria this morning. It was while at Belgium that I met Dave, my cousin. Dave is five years older than me and he is happily married to a German lady, Merkel. The couple lives in Belgium as Dave is in charge of SJC-Belgium. During my conversation with him, I told him about my boyfriend, Collins and even showed him pictures. The first thing he did was blame me for allowing him to work under me at SJC. According to Dave, Collins is not my class, and bringing him to work at SJC will only make him realize the differences in our class. He is going to meet a secretary or another female staff in his class, and he is going to go with her. I know Dave might be wrong, because even though he is a Nigerian, he spent a majority of his life in Germany before finally settling in Belgium. But he spoke about Nigerian men and how they behave like he is one. I was tempted to agree with Dave, afterall, Collins was already getting close to Rukayat. But Rukayat is not in his class if Dave's explanation is anything to go by. Rukayat is an independent lady, living in a two bedroom flat apartment downtown, with a car of her own, fat bank account, all of this, Collins is yet to have. Maybe I am just being paranoid. Maybe nothing is up between them. Maybe Collins is still faithful as ever. Maybe he is still in love with me. Even if he is, he should have been here by now. I just saved him at the head of departments meeting. Even if he is not going to ask me how my journey was, he should come here to thank me for covering him. Even though I had told him not to come to my office everytime. All he needs to do is call me and I will meet him in his office, none of which is happening now. Just then, there was a knock on the door. "Come in." The door into the office opened and Collins stepped in. "Hi." He said, unsure of how to greet his girlfriend. "Hi." A surprised Bunmi replied. "Hi...... Just hi?" she asked. "Am sorry." He said as he approached her. Tears rolled down her cheeks involuntarily. No matter how she tried to stop them, they still came in a rush. "Why.....?" She wanted to say. "Shhhhhhh." he said as he brought his lips close to hers and in a flash, enveloped her lips in his. "I know I haven't been the best boyfriend. Just forgive me." He said and immediately returned to kissing her. By now, they were both standing. "Am sorry." He said once they were done kissing. "I love you." She cried softly. "I love you too." He replied as he hugged her. Silence enveloped the room as they seemed to have been lost in the euphoria of the romance. "You owe me an explanation." Bunmi said once they broke free. "Back to work." She laughed. "Yeah. I am going to meet a local sugar cane farmer now. He is willing to sign the contract with us." Collins replied. "Can I come?" She asked. "Sure. And I hope you have no problems with Rukayat going." "More reason why I want to come." She laughed. "I'll drive you." She added. "Well, am going with one of the utility trucks." Collins replied. "No problems. I'll ride with you. But I will sit in front beside you." She laughed. Just then the phone rang. "Bunmi Jose here." She said once she answered the call. "Ma'am president, there is a caller here for you. She said she is Kike Brown. Should I send her in?" "I don't think I have an appointment with her." Bunmi replied. "Not at all." The caller replied. "Okay. I have somewhere I must be now. Let her wait until am back." "Okay ma'am." The call ended. -------- INSIDE THE FIRST RECEPTION It is over an hour since she was asked to wait for the president. Now she is tired of waiting. "When will she be back? Am loosing my patience." Kike asked the receptionist who had called Bunmi earlier. "Just a little more patience." She replied. "Here is my card. Let her call me when she returns." Kike said dropping her complimentary card.

--*-- As soon as she left SJC, Kike drove down to one of the exhotic restaurants in town in a bid to grab lunch, after which she'll leave for home. She had hoped Bunmi Jones would grant her audience, but the reverse was the case. As a young lady who had lived all her life in wealth and affluence, she is not used to making requests of asking to see people. By the mention of the name Brown, she could meet with anyone and enter any office complex. But one strange thing about Bunmi Brown is, first, she(Kike) doesn't like her, especially after she rudely called short her(Kike) conversation with Collins the first time they met, yet she still wanted to help her. Another strange thing was, exposing Tony Brown's plans to Bunmi may as well be the end of the bad Tony and the begining of SJC achieving more successes, but something is pushing her(Kike) to help an outsider at the detriment of her brother. "Welcome ma'am." A security at the door said as she stepped into the air conditioned hall. The time was 11AM, so, there were not too many people in the hall. Afterall, it was past breakfast, and not yet lunch time. She scanned the hall with her sharp eyes, then she spotted an empty table at the far end of the hall, just a few feets away from a cute couple who were acting all lovey as they ate. Putting on her air of superiority, she strode towards the table, dropped her bag, then proceeded to the counter where she made her orders and instantly paid with her debit card. She returned to her table with the tray on top which her food was, and just before she sat down, a pair of familiar eyes winked at her, followed by a smile on a familiar face. "Hello Kiks." Amanda smiled. Alas, the couple acting loved up, the lady was her cousin, Amanda. "Hi Amy." Kike replied as she ignored the rather cute guy sitting with her cousin and proceeded to her table. "Sweet cuz, come join us here." Amanda said. Kike weighed her chances, then settled for sitting with them. At least to have someone to talk to. "Meet my boyfriend, Sandro." Amanda said no sooner had Kike taken a seat on the left of Sandro and the right of her. "Sandro, this is my cousin, Kikelomo." Amanda completed the introduction. "Hi." Kike smiled shaking hands with Sandro. "Hello." Sandro took her hand in his. Kike dugged into her plate of rice calmly and listened to how the two lovebirds conversed. They seemed to be in love, especially her cousin who seemed to have finally gotten over the issue of fiv years ago when she vowed never to love another man. Kike refused to give the Sandro of a guy attention, even though he is cute, confident and rich, but he belongs to her cousin, and the things of the past shouldn't reoccur. "Kiks, you are not contributing." Amanda pointed out when Kike's silence became too obvious and unbearable. "Maybe she is shy." The guy Sandro replied. Kike smiled. She loved it when people say she is shy. Why would she be shy? When she has everything at her beck and call. Even if she was naturally born shy, she had since grown out of her shell to become an extreme extrovert. Therefore, anyone who says she is shy knows little or nothing about her. "No, Kike is not shy. At least when it comes to men. If she could snatch my twenty two year old boyfriend when she was twenty four, then nothing is impossible." Amanda replied. One thing Kike knew for sure is, Amanda still hasn't gotten over the issue. It was five years ago, the same year she(Kike) graduated from the University and the night of her convocation, a dinner was organized with friends, families and acquaintances present. Amanda had invited her then boyfriend, a Nigerian and one thing led to another and she(Kike) had sex with him, only to be bursted by Amanda when she couldn't find her boyfriend. That night marked the end of their friendship, and even though their parents tried to bring them back together, Amanda only agreed to make her parents stop worrying. Afterall, she refused to tell anybody Kike's exact offence. "Sorry, I have to leave." Kike said standing with a wounded heart. "Its nice meeting you Kike." Sandro said. Kike ignored the couple as she left the restaurant, hurt, angry and sad. --tbc--

--*-- Collins drove the utility truck into the premises of SJC and immediately, Rukayat who sat on the backseat alighted and walked towards her department. All their meeting with their new partners, Bunmi ensured Collins never said anything to her, as she never took her hands off his arm, at the same time never stopped to make body contacts. Rukayat on the other hand who felt the visit as a perfect way to have time with Collins was disappointed when Collins showed up with Bunmi. Rukayat, that moment wanted to return to work, but so as not to make her behaviour too obvious, she sadly left the front seat and sat at the back while Bunmi took over the passenger seat in front. Now, another day has been wasted. The only time she could get Collins attention was when they were alone, and the chances of them being alone is quite low as he had made up with Bunmi and Bunmi is a lover who never takes her eyes off her man. The two lovers ignored Rukayat's behaviour as they both got down and proceeded towards the building. "Let's go to your office." Collins said. "Why my office and not yours?" Bunmi replied. "I love you office." Collins replied. "Or you love my secretary?" Bunmi asked amids laughter. "And why is that?" Collins asked. "She has a bigger front than I do." Bunmi replied still laughing. Collins bursted into laughter. "I actually have my eyes on some other lady in your office." He replied. "And who is she?" Bunmi asked. "Top secret." Collins replied as she hit him playfully with a punch on the shoulder. "Come on, tell me." She said as she took quickened steps to meet up with Collins who also increased his pace. "I still enjoy her presence very much. Telling you will mean you sacking her. I don't want that." He replied. Bunmi chased Collins from there into her secretary's office. "Welcome ma." She greeted. "Welcome Mr Collins." She greeted Collins who returned her greeting. "Any message?" Bunmi who by now held Collins hand to ensure that he doesn't run away any more. "Yeah. The Browns have decided to withdraw their partnership as our major consumer. The sales department just released the news." The secretary explained. "And why is that?" Bunmi asked instantly with quickened breathe as if she wanted to pass out. Everyone knew the rate at which SJC will suffer if The Browns should stop patronizing their products. As the largest consumer of their furniture products, buying about 15% of their productions per annum. "Is that all?" Collins asked. "No, Kike Brown was here and she dropped this." She said handling the complimentary card to Collins. "She asked that Madam called her." Two minutes later, Collins walked Bunmi into her office. The impact of the Brown's news seemed to hit her at the wrong place. "Call an emergency meeting." Bunmi instructed. "No, I'll meet with the sales manager first. This news is to be digested between production and sales." Collins replied. "You just call Kike Brown, maybe she has something to do with the decision by her family business. "You are right darling." Collins exited the office and Bunmi immediately dialled Kike's number. "Bunmi Jose on the line." She said as soon as Kike picked. ------- Kike had left the restaurant angrily, and with the same anger, she had sped out of the restaurant and drove homewards reckelessly and at a very high speed. As she drove into the estate, just a few blocks away from her house, her phone rang. She angrily picked the call and she angrily shunned whoever was calling. "Bunmi Jose on the line." Was the first thing she heard. "Don't call this line again. I have nothing to do with you." It was too late to take back her words as the line went dead almost immediately. --tbc--

--*-- Bunmi sat by her father's bedside as the family doctor attended to him. "Young lady, how did it happen?" The doctor, an elderly man in his fifties asked. "I really can't say specifically because I wasn't there. I was in my room upstairs, he was downstairs watching a live business broadcast. I only found him lying at the landing of the staircase. Obviously, he was coming up to meet me." Bunmi explained. "Okay, so, he slipped on his way up. Don't you think something might have triggered his fall?" The doctor asked. "You are right. But I don't think so." Bunmi replied, even though the truth was staring hard at her, she can't afford to admit being in a way responsible for her father's present situation. And she prayed the doctor never made mention of it. "Well, I can categorically tell you that, Mr Jose here saw some nerve breaking news report. He was rushing upstairs to talk to you. He had a relapse and suffered a cardiac arrest and that was how he slipped." The doctor explained. "I wonder why he still put the issues at SJC on his mind. You are now in charge, and I want to believe you are capable enough to steer the ship. Why the huge funancial loss?" The doctor asked. A knock sounded on the door, followed by Collins sticking his head into the room. "Hello darling. Excuse me sir." Bunmi said to the doctor as she hurriedly went to meet Collins halfway into the room. "How you doing?" He asked as he gave her a hug. "Is he getting better?" He added. "Yeah. He is responding to treatment. He fell asleep not quite long ago." Bunmi replied. Meanwhile, the doctor looked at the two loverbirds while they conversed with a smile on his face. Probably remembering his own time. "Sir, meet Collins, my boyfriend. Collins, this is Doctor Ajanaku, the family doctor." Bunmi did a quivk introduction and the two men shook hands, with Collins bowing slightly as a sign of respect. "I'll like to take my leave now." The doctor announced some five minutes later. "As soon as I reach the hospital, I will send one of the nurses to come and keep an eye on Jose all around the clock." He added. "Thank you very much sir." Bunmi flexed her knees, as a sign of appreciation. "You're welcome." He replied. "Mr Collins, its nice meeting you." With this, the elderly man grabbed his bag, then strolled out of the room. Once he shut the door behind him, Bunmi faced Collins. "How's the office?" She asked. "Pretty cool. I spent the night behind my desk working." He replied. "And anything to be done to make things work out?" She asked. "Yeah, after a lot of brainstorming, we came up with two options. The first is, selling off percentages to reduce what is being shouldered or reducing the cost of production which in turn reduces the number of staffs." Collins explained. "Second option seems a bit helpful. I mean, we can lay off some staffs and anytime we hit the top again, we can always employ new staffs." She replied. "You have a point, but laying off staffs is in the percentage of. 50% of the factory workers, 20% of the office staffs, 10% of the board of governors and 20% of Security men and staffs at the restaurant. Gratuity is running into millions. I think 50million naira. It is unadvisable." Collins explained. San Jose turned in his sleep. "Let's get out of here." Bunmi suggested as she led the way out of the room. "But we both know we can't sell percentages of the company's ownership. San Jose currently controls 80%. How much do we need to let go?" She asked. "30% at most." Collins replied. "That's on the high side. We can't do that." Bunmi argued. "How did we get it wrong in the first place?" she asked. "Well, it all started when Tony Brown pulled out his consumer percentage. And since we have forcasted out production and tied it around his percentage we've spent a lot depending on his company's consumption for returns. So, it became too late to adjust our bearing." Collins explained. "So, Tony Brown is responsible for this?" Bunmi asked. "Yes. I have fixed an appointment with his team. I'll meet his at his complex later today. I promise to handle this to the last until SJC returns to the top." Collins replied. "I love you." Bunmi said. "You just stay with dad. I will handle everything at work, but I will give give you report everyday." He added. "You've had lunch?" Bunmi asked. "You cooked?" Collins replied. --tbc--

--*-- Kike stormed into the Brown's living room, every eyes turned towards her direction. But she didn't care, all that mattered to her was confronting Tony and making him see reasons why he is a devil. "Tony, can I see you in private." She asked. More like a command. "Kike, at least, put your anger behind you and greet." An elderly man said, typical of Yoruba elders. "Good afternoon Uncle. Good afternoon Auntie." She greeted the coupled. "Amanda is here to." The man's wife, Amanda's mother said. "Hello Amy." She said without looking at Amanda who had a blank expression on her face. "Can I see you now?" She asked Tony who still remained rooted to his seat. "Won't you greet your mother? She is here too." Amanda's father said referring to her step mother or father's wife. "She is not my mother." Kike replied. "So, who is she? Your friend?" Her uncle asked. "She is a nobody who only got attached to Dad because of money. Why do you think she refused to give birth?" Kike replied rudely. It is one thing to know that Kikelomo Brown is rude. It is another thing to know how not to get offended by her rudeness. Everyone in the room is aware or at least have their ways around her rudeness, so offence is likely not to be taken. Even though most times, one cannot but loose one's cool to the point of being frustrated by a lady below thirty. "Your mother got pregnant for my brother because of money." Amanda's father replied. "Darling stop." His ever peace loving wife cautioned. Kike can sometimes but wonder why a crazy man like her Uncle got married to a peaceful woman like his wife. Or better still, why a peaceful woman like her Aunt married a crazy man like her Uncle and how the union went on to produce a much more crazier Amanda. "Your mother showed up out of nowhere and claimed being pregnant all because my brother has money." He Uncle replied. "That's enough darling." His wife cautioned. "No, let him spit it all out. Afterall, he was the one who benefited from his brother's property." Kike said. "Don't you dare talk to my father like that." Amanda cuts in. "Okay, that's enough." Tony said rising to his feet. "Kike, let's go." He said to his sister who followed him out of the living room. Now outside the house, Kike wasted no time in attacking and pouring out her mind for her brother. "Why did you do that to SJC?" She asked. "You and your slaves already spoilt production for them. As if that is not enough, you still went ahead to kill their sale." "It is busuness." Tony replied. "What business? SJC is not a direct competitor. They are in a different business to us. Is it because the Chairman's daughter refused to warm you bed? Why are you so wicked and callous?" Kike was far from done. "Don't you talk to me anyhow." Tony warned. "I have everything under control. My men are following the situation and once everything is set, you will apreciate me for doing this," Tony added. "And why would I?" Kike asked. "I am doing this for you." Tony replied and walked back into the house, leaving a surprised Kike on the spot. This is the second time Tony was talking about destroying SJC's business because of her. Only time would tell. --tbc--

--*-- Bunmi sat in her office all stressed out as a musical video played on her tv screen. It has been two weeks since SJC suffered the huge financial mess and she has spent the two weeks taking care of her father who also collapsed on hearing the latest misfortune that befell the company and also taking care of the company. Even though she had Collins to thank for his indefatigable efforts at bringing to company back up. Production had since reduced as the factory workers had gone on a strike after their salaries and bonuses are not paid yet. The board of directors have recomended sack options for the production manager, the sales manager and the finance manager, but thanks to Bunmi who singlehandedly dissolved the board of directors at SJC. Even though production was starting to come back up, it is not just enough as SJC which was once number one in the country is now wallowing in the tenth position having lost about sixty percent of its revenue. The intercom rang. "Yes?" Bunmi said once she answered the call. "Ma'am, the factory workers are on another protest." Her secretary informed. Bunmi stared blankly at the tv screen. "Why can't this people give us time to sort ourselves out?" She thought. "Call Mr Collins. He has their masterkey and should be able to calm down." She instructed her secretary. "Mr Collins is there already, but it seems he is having a hard time with them today, cos they demanded seeing the president." Her secretary replied. "You know what? I'll go out there and talk to them." Bunmi said. "Okay ma'am." With this, the line went dead. Bunmi immediately stood up, adjusted her cloth, even without a mirror. Satisfied with her looks, she stepped out of her office. Her secretary wish her luck as she stepped out of the admin department where she her office is located and as soon as she stepped onto the pavement outside, the protesters who were a couple of yards away, listening to Collins tore away from him and ran towards her. "Will you continue to owe us our pay? We worked for you guys, we should be paid." One of the worker, a stout ugly man said. Even though the factory workers are regarded as casuals who bore no immediate importance to the company, they are often regarded as the backbone as they handle production which in turn generate funds. It is not a new thing to sack protesting factory workers, but sacking all of them at the time when the financial fortunes of the company is in a downturn could only mean the end. By now, Collins had walked up to where Bunmi stood, and it was only then she noticed he wasn't alone. Even while addressing the aggrieved workers, he had beside him the HR manager, Rukayat. "Can you handle it?" Collins asked as he held her hand. "I think I can. You've done enough." She whispered. "All we ask for is a few weeks to sort out our issues. Once that is done, you would be paid and everything will go back to normal." Bumi pleaded to the workers. "No, I have a family to feed." "Few weeks? Do you want my sick mother dead?" "I am the breadwinner of my family, few weeks is like forever." "You rich people are quite heartless. You ate salad before coming to work today, I ate nothing. In the last one week, I haven't eaten any good food." Were the reactions she got from the aggrieved workers. Bunmi stared on in confusion as they protested. "Oga Collins, can you swear that you haven't being paid? You people pay those sitting in offices, but you have refused to pay those of us doing the work." The stout man who had spoken earlier screamed. "Okay, fine. We will lay off half of you, pay you off then face the other half." Drastic times calls for drastic measures, but for a moment, Bunmi wished she hadn't said that as the aggrieved workers started throwing objects at her. "Its time you returned to your office. I'll handle them." Collins said as he shielded her and led her towards the door. Just then, Rowland, the head of the factory workers showed up. "Where have you been?" Collins asked angrily. "You are fired." Bunmi screamed and stormed in. "I was in the medical wing." Rowland told Collins who didn't follow Bunmi inside. "Come on Mr Rowland, you knew your men would protest today, you should be around to pacify them. They almost hurt Bunmi." Rukayat said. "I'll talk to her." Collins said reassuringly to Rowland. "Thanks boss." Rowland replied. -------- Tony Brown stood up at once, shook hands with San Jose who sat on a wheelchair. "Its nice doing business with you sir." Tony smiled. "Thanks for coming to the rescue." San Jose replied. "I'll like to get going now." Tony said, bowed once more and proceeded to the front door. --tbc--

--*-- Bunmi returned to her office fuming. She was angry at everybody because they made the problem seem like hers alone. She knew the company belonged to her, but she believed every service was employed and paid for after each workers vowed to work for the betterment of the company, and not withdraw everytime the company is faced with issues like this. "Seriously, you need to watch your anger. You don't go venting it on innocent people." Collins voice brought her out of her thoughts. "For the records Rowland is one of the longest servings staffs of this company, you can't dismiss him like that." He added. "My company or your company?" Bunmi asked angrily. "Your company." Collins replied with a mockery tone. "But do you think the company is really yours? Can you do things alone? Can you be the president and still supervise sales? Can you be the finance manager and still operate machines and handle production?" Collins asked. Bunmi took that period and calmed down really well. "Am sorry." She whispered. Collins stared at her for a moment before proceeding further into the office. Now standing beside her. "There are some people we can't afford to loose at the moment and Rowland is one of them. Everyone is being owed a month salary, but not everyone is working in the same scale as the factory workers. They work the most under intense condition and with high risk, yet they are being underpaid. If for anything they are to be owed salaries, its not like this." Collins explained. "What do you suggest I do?" She asked. "I suggest than we take two month ruccuring loan. Salaries of the factory staffs per month is at one million seven hundred thousand. We can take a 2.5million naira loan from the bank to to cover the salaries for two months, in reality, except SJC is willing to let go of about sixty percent, we can't go back to the number one spot anytime soon! Sixty percent is in a veing of 1.9billion dollars paid to you and you know the number of debts you can pay up and investment you can have with that." Collins continued. "We'll take the loan. Am selling nothing." Bunmi replied in her usual defiance. Collins took that moment to sit down. "So, what about Rowland?" He asked. "What about him?" "Is he fired still?" He asked. "Seriously, Rowland is at fault for all of this. He refused to handle those under his watch. He is a Judas, he betrayed our trust." "The pressure is too much for him. He was their boss when the going was smooth. You can annoy and hungry man when you tell him you are his boss." Collins replied. "Moreso, I am the overall boss of that unit. I couldn't handle it too. I should be fired too." "No, don't turn this on yourself because no one will fire you." Bunmi said. "Then to avoid injustice, reinstate Rowland. Remember, he made settling down easy for me when I first came in." Collins pleaded. "Granted sir." Bunmi replied laughing. "Good girl, now increase the volume of the tv." Collins said. "Tony Brown who recently took to his twitter account to announce the take over at SJC refused to disclose if the company would be renamed from SJC to his desired name." The newscaster read out. "What are they saying?" Bunmi asked. Collins moved closer to the television to read the headlines. "Tony Brown buys sixty percent in ownership shares at SJC." Collins read out. "What?" Bunmi screamed as she grabbed her car key. Collins quickly blocked her way while trying to wrestle the key from her. "Get out of my way Collins." Bunmi warned. "I'll call the security." She thratened. Collins successfuly collected the key from her. "Give me my key and let me go." She said angrily. "No." Collins replied. "What?" She asked. "I will drive you." He replied. --tbc--
