Dedicated to my dear @gracy on her birthday

My Wedding Proposal

I was on the 1000th level of candy crush when my phone vibrated, signalling the arrival of a text message. I quickly clicked the pop up notification, temporarily exiting candy crush. It was a message from Charles.

'Baby, sorry I couldn't pick your call. I'm just leaving the house. Get ready, we are going to see my parents on Saturday.'

I froze instantly. He was finally taking me to see his parents. Charles and I have been dating for the past 4 years and the only person from his family that knew about us was his dog. Yes, you heard me right, his dog. Each time I brought up meeting his family, he would counter my argument with 5 words - baby, I'm not ready yet.

My friends told me to break up, while my mum told me to pray more fervently. This was more spiritual than physical she said multiple times. According to her and my friends, if a man failed to make some necessary steps after 6 months, he was just using you.

The only problem was that I loved how Charles used me. I had dated multiple guys and indeed, he was different. He was so thoughtful, caring, accommodating and most of all loving. Don't even get me started on the sex. Just one word, bomb ???. He knew how to open me up, body and soul. Whenever he called me baby, I felt like one and when he said angel, I believed in the existence of female angels. Charles knew my problems before they even occoured and solved them before they became one. When ladies trended men are scum, I just couldn't relate. He was close to perfection and his only flaw was his inability to make us official to someone that shared his blood.

I read the text message again, jumped up and started dancing. My multiple prayers had been answered. I was going to see his parents and if they liked me,... who was I kidding, if there was one thing certain on planet earth, it was that parents loved me. After that, it was only going to be a matter of time (short) before I became Mrs Charles Dubem Obi.

Today was Thursday, so I had the whole of friday to get ready. Shit, I was quite unprepared. I called the spa and booked an evening session and called the salon to book an aftertoon appointment. First impression mattered and I was going to make the most of it. After placing the calls, I dashed into the room to pick out the outfit I would wear. I finally decided on a sleeveless chiffon blouse and my favorite forever 21 denim. I shaved my armpit, carved my eye brow and painted my nails. I then called my mum and told her of the visit.

'Dont forget your home training oh. Call them mummy and daddy. Offer to cook and wash plates after eating.' She said, sounding excited.

'Yes mummy, I won't forget.' I replied, cutting the call.

Friday came and went and Saturday was upon us. Charles was on his way to pick me. I had taken a last look at the mirror and there was just one word that could be used to describe my reflection - bomb ??????. Charles called to inform me of his arrival.

Within 45 minutes, we were at his parent's house. As I got down from the car, I quickly did the sign of the cross. Charles turned around and reached for my hand.

'Just be yourself,' he whispered 'you're a lovely person and my parents would have no problem realizing that.'

He dropped a kiss on my new hair and I managed to exhale. If I was going to survive the night, I had to remember to breathe. I had no option, I was going to be myself.

And that was all I did. We got into the house and for the first time in 4 years, I met another member of the Obi family. Introductions were made and his mother warmed up to me immediately. Not before long, I was invited to the kitchen by his sister and we were fast exchanging gists. His mum joined us shortly and by the time we were done cooking, she was already calling me her daughter. There was laughter in all sections of the house and I was complete.

After the meal, his sister and I took the dishes to the kitchen and as we were washing the plates, she whispered

'Charly is going to propose to you as soon as you walk out to the sitting room.'

'What?'

'Yea, he is. So get ready and make sure you don't faint cause my dad is going to be recording it.'

I already felt faint. It was going to happen. I wasn't prepared for this. The butterflies in my stomach were going all tsunami on me. It was as if all the juice i had for dinner had gone straight to my bladder. Suddenly, I felt the need to pee. I asked her where the rest room was and she navigated me to the one in her room. She also advised me to powder my nose a little before returning.

As soon as I got to her toilet, I held the toilet sink and forced myself to breath. Charles was finally going to propose. Everything had fallen into place. His family loved me, I loved them and I was going to be a part of them in few minutes. It was then it dawned on me that I was the one responsible for the few minutes. I quickly pulled down my jeans and arched my ass over the toilet bowl, letting the slow stream of urine out. As I did, I felt someone knock on the door.

It was strange. Why could I feel the knock instead of hear it. As the intensity of the knock increased, I felt more pain and I began to hear voices.

'Sandra, Sandra, wake up jare.'

I felt my eyes open forcefully. As I tried to adjust my eyes to the poorly lit room, someone called out again but it wasn't Charlie's sister. Where was I?

'Sandra, stand up jare. This is the 2nd time you've peed on the bed. Are you sure you don't need deliverance?'

That was when the voice registered. It belonged to Chioma, my roommate. I wasn't in any toilet, there was no Charles, no family, no proposal. It had all been a dream. I got up, looking at the map my urine had formed on the bed. My life was in shambles. I was a single 30 year old who wet the bed, thinking of a guy that didn't exist.

The End ?
