WhatsApp has introduced a new feature to the latest update of the app. This new feature gives users the ability to add description on WhatsApp groups. Telegram users should be familiar with this feature as it is already available on the Telegram app.
Telegram, an instant messaging app with advanced features is a strong competitor to WhatsApp as it has a lot of features that is not available WhatsApp. You can check it out here.
So WhatsApp is doing their best to release updates and catch up with features available on Telegram.
This new update will be available on Windows Phone, Android and iOS devices.
As at the time of this publication, the group description feature is only available for Windows Phone and Android beta testers.
HOW DOES THIS FEATURE WORK?
It allows group owners to add a description giving a brief intro or an overview of what the group is all about.
The description can be seen by all the group members at the top of the group info section.
This group description will also be shown as an excerpt when you share a group link on WhatsApp, giving users who want to join a group a little bit of info what the group is all about.
Additionally, when a new user joins the group, a pinned box showing the description of the group will be shown at the top of the group.
WhatsApp is working on a feature called Admin Super Power which will give group admin full jurisdiction of a group. A particular Group admin will have due power in editing group profile pics or descriptions etc.
Unfortunately, the Admin Super Power feature is not yet available on WhatsApp, so any member of the group can edit the group description pending when WhatsApp releases this feature.
