CHAPTER ONE MAY 1016. Prince Anez trained harder and harder. he could remember the sentence passed against him by the Elder's Council. "By the power resting on us, we have unanimously agree that Prince Anez is thereby barred from ascending the throne as the Emperor and supreme ruler of this Empire unless the ring of power is brought back and its power properly harnessed by him. He is given a month of grace after which any other member of the royal family to produce the ring can ascend the throne." He cut off the head of the training doll. "Aish, that bitch, that whore of the century. I am going to derive pleasure and satisfaction in killing her." He striked again with full force, this time it was the bamboo trees around. "Then you are a coward brother dear." Prince Anez whirled around, he saw his younger brother watching him from afar. He smiled and called out. "Will you just stand there? Come over here you naughty boy." Prince Daleh strolled over and frowned. "You know bro, I will challenge you in front of the whole court one day and beat you. Stop treating me like a small boy, I really hate it." Prince Anez widened his eyes in mock horror. "Ha! I am so sorry Your Royal Highness, pardon my foolishness." He bowed dramatically. Prince Daleh fought the urge to roll his eyes. He embraced his brother. "I miss you so much. I heard what hapened. I am so sorry brother. Prince Anez smiled. "I am okay. Did you come back just for me?" Prince Daleh nodded. "I figured you will need someone to be your eyes and earswhile you are away from the palace. I heard you are going to the future to bring back the ring sent there." Prince Anez sighed. "That is true Daleh. And the annoying part is that the PROTECTORS who are supposed to be loyal to us are siding with the Queen." Prince Daleh frowned. "It is impossible brother, they made a vow of loyalty which when broken is punishable by death." Prince Anez sneered. "The queen must have offered them protection and wealth. I trust no one except you Daleh and Elder Drez. I can only hope to get the ring from them before the one month ultimatum is over. I leave tomorrow and I hope I succeed and fufill father's last wish, kicking out Queen Lystil and Excellency Jinah. He madethe sentence and pulled all charges against me. The bastard." Later in the evening Prince Anez met the Queen who was gloating about her victory. "Don't worry my love, I will take care of your throne while you are away." He sneered. You whore, you will never get away with all your atrocities, I will make sure that you are kicked out from this Empire Lystil." She laughed evily. "Love, I am the Queen of wickedness, it comes naturally to me. No wickedness a day, no sleep for me." She pouted and clung to him shamelessly. "I have loved you ever since I set my eyes on you. Just give me a chance to be the woman of your dreams, to fufill all your passions and desires. I promise to make you the ruler of this empire and the whole world and rule by your side. I ache for you my prince." Prince Anez pushed her away. He knew what she was doing to him. He had heard of her manipulations. He also knew for a fact that she practised dark magic. Leaning to her now means he is doomed for ever and same goes for the whole empire of his. "My father made a grave mistake of marrying you, he regretted that for the whole ten years you were together. I will not make the same mistake and sleep with you. Moreover, I am not interested in an ugly witch that is free food for even the eunuchs in the palace." He smirked. "I will rather go for a young and proper lady not an old hag." "What?" The queen shrieked in fury, she was livid with anger. How dare him, even if he is the Crown Prince call her ugly, witch and old hag. "You will pay for all you have said to me. I will take what I want from you and then I will so humilate you that you will beg for death. I will start with your brother, he will make a nice slave for me, always wanting to please me and fufill my sexual de...." She had no time to finish talking before Prince Anez descended on her. Even Queen Lystil feared him when his fury got to that point. "Touch him and you die." He whispered and left. The following day, early in the morning, the entire court bade Prince Anez farewell.. Hehugged Prince Daleh who was trying so hard not to cry. "Come back safe brother." Prince Anez smiled. "I will. This place is in your hands now be brave. If I don't make it back, I want you to ascend the throne. The army is still loyal, make use of them well." Prince Daleh looked like he might argue but Prince Anez reassured him. Guards escorted him to the portal and they went back. Continuation MAY 2016 He woke up to different annoying sounds. He opened his eyes and saw different strange things moving around, he reached for his sword as he saw different people in strange clothings carrying strange weapons and using them to flash light on him. They probably want his weakness, well, he would show them none. Thankfully the only wise man left in the Imperial court back at Philnia, Elder Drez had told him to expect strange things when he got to the future and to ask for "city of lights." As he moved around, he wondered how Philnia could have changed tremendously in a millenium. He could not believe that was once his cherished empire. After hours of walking around aimlessly, he asked a woman the direction to the city of Lights which in Mordern Philnia was known as "SITINA." It was frustrating to be looking for the protectors in a big city like Sitina, it was like looking for needle in a haystack. Prince Anez looked at his clothes and decided to blend in even if it was just for a few weeks, but he kept his sword, bow and arrow. A few hours later, he saw a temple bulit like that of Old Philnia. "Fathers of Philnia, I don't know what to do, please lead me to the Protectors, help me finish well and return to Philnia safe." He bowed and left the temple feeling lighter. *************************

"I knew this day would come, the day the ring of power would be returned to the true heir of the throne. Prince Anez is here in Sitina." Mr Andre Johnson sighed. His ancestors had been sent to the future a thousand years ago to protect the ring of power from the evil and lustful hands of the ruling emperor then who killed the entire true royal family so he could be the supreme ruler. The Johnsons or rather known as The Jerolds in the old Philnia Empire were the most loyal to the massacred royal family so they swore an oath to protect the ring of power until the true heir is born and claimed it. They narrowly escaped with their lives but never cared, their duty was to the empire first, that was how they got to be called "The Protectors." Every generation of the Johnsons waited and watched the stars for the birth of the true heir it was only Mr Andre Johnson's father who was priviledged to see the birth of the true heir, Prince Anez. This is why Queen Lystil either wants him on her side or destroy him. Mr Johnson looked really bothered about something. He called his family together. "Queen Lystil's people approached us and offered us wealth and protection in exchange for the ring of power. I already have my answer but I want you to know this because we might have to move soon. Eidel, this is for you, you are the chosen protector for this ring, and your life depend on the ring. What do you want to do?" Eidel loked at her family memebers one after the other including her best friend and guard Drek. She sighed and nodded. "If this ring will leave my possession then it will be given to its rightful owner Prince Anez. I am sorry but we will tell the queen no and run for our dear lives." They all nodded in approval. Mrs Johnson smiled. "I am proud of you Eidel. It is settled then." Mr johnson breathed in relief. "These are tough times, we must be prepared. Drek, make sure you are always by the girls side, protect them well." Drek bowed. "You have my loyalty sir." Mr Johnson nodded. "Now, let's prepare for the crown prince's arrival." *************************

After many days of frantic searching, Prince Anez was ready to give up, he hated the fact that he could not get a clue of who they were or where they were in Sitina. He sat down and looked around, he was in a dirty alley that was deserted except for a few boys bringing smoke from their mouth and glaring at him. He looked away. He was begining to doze off when he heard a piercing scream. Eve looked at the boys surrounding her, she cannot overpower any of them, she started to plead. "Please don't hurt me, I have money and jewellries with me but please don't hurt me, I beg you." One of the boys spoke up. "No, we won't hurt you, you are too beautiful for that. We just want a taste of you, trust me it won't hurt right boys?" His friends snickered and chuckled. They all nodded in approval. He moved to her and started to tear at her clothes. Eve screamed and screamed. "Leave me alone. Help, someone please help." One of the boys punched her face. 'Shut up or else you die bitch." "You don't disrespect a woman, were you not taught that?" They all whirled around to see a guy with weapons. They drew out their knives and guns. "Who are you? How did you get here?" Prince Anez smiled. "I am Prince Anez of Philnia and I jumped." They all laughed. "He must be an actor. Guy, go back to your acting crew or you might get hurt." Prince Anez drew his sword and moved closer. "Let the young lady go or you might end up regretting it." One of them fired at him and he was forced to slow. "I will kill you all." His voice was filled with anger and hatred. Within seconds they were all on the ground writhing in pain. He dropped his sword and grunted in pain. He turned to Eve. "You should leave before more of them come." He picked up his sword and began to leave. "Wait. Please don't go."" Eve walked up to him. "What do you want?" He hissed in pain. Eve took a better look at him, he was the most beautiful man she had ever seen, handsome and perfectly shaped. "Well, will you talk? Or you want to take a better look at me?" Prince Anez frowned. Eve's face was flushed with embarrassment, he had caught her staring. "Sorry, but are you really Prince Anez of Philnia, is that true?" Prince Anez sighed. "I think I already mentioned that but you cannot help me with what I need so please get out of my way. I have better things to do." He began to leave. "I can help you Your Highness, I know exactly what you are looking for and how you can get the ring of power." Prince Anez looked back at her, shocked, he asked. CHAPTER TWO OLD PHILNIA "I want him found or else all of you will be my new set of cockroaches understood? Now get out of my useless things." Queen Lystilns minions ran out of her palace before the queen's wrth descended on them all. She paced her throne room angrily. "Has he become that invisible? Just to monitor him they can't mtcheew." She hissed angrily. Excellency Jinah tried to calm her down. "Calm down Your Majesty, they will find him, don't stress yourself." The queen glared at him. "And how can I do that Jinah, if Prince Anez gets the ring then there is trouble for us all. Which brings me to ask, what is the decision of the protectors?" Excellency Jinah sighed. "They said they are forever loyal, they will only give the ring to the true heir, Prince Anez." At that moment Queen Lystil looked like she was ready to explode. "What? Assemble my best guards? they must kill each and everyone of the protectors, none must be left alive, they must bring me the ring." Excellency Jinah protested. "But it must be given willingly by the bearer or it won't work." Queen Lystil smiled. "Then neither I nor Prince Anez will be able to use it."

FUTURE PHILNIA "Dad, mom, I am home where are you guys?" Eve smiled as she entered. "Welcome to our humble home Your Highness." Her parents rushed out to see her. Her father's tone was harsh but full of relief. "What happened Eve? Everyone was worried about you." "I am sorry, I was attacked by thugs on my way home, they almost raped me. It was this gentleman that saved me. He was shot because of me." They all looked at Prince Anez whose expression had become unreadable. Eve's mother, Mrs Johnson went over to him. "Thank you very much for helping my little girl, we are grateful my son." Prince Anez cocked an eyebrow at Eve. Eve smiled and cleared her throat. "Mom, he can't be your son. I want you to meet the true heir of Philnia, Prince Anez." They all looked shocked with their jaws dropped. Mr Johnson was the first to regain composure. "Please sit down Your Highness, we are glad you are here, please let us tend to your wounds and get you comfortable then we will talk about your mission." Prince Anez objected. "I am fine, I just want the ring and I will be on my way back to Philnia. I did not come to the future to sit, chat and get comfortable. Moreover, I don't want a situation where you will inform you queen that I am here and capture me." They were all shocked, they never knew the prince was aware of the queen approaching them and the worst thing was that the prince believed they had betrayed him. Eve spoke up in her family's defence. "We are not like that. Itis true Queen Lystil approached us but we already made our decision. Our loyalty lies forever with you Our Highness." Prince Anez chuckled. "And you expect me to believe that? Nonsense. Will you give me the ring or should I resort to drastic measures?" Mr Johnson's eyes widened in horror, he knew exactly what Prince Anez was talking about and it could kill him and his family.

"No, we are not giving you the ring, at least not yet." A small voice spoke up. Prince Anez turned around to look at the daring and insolent bastard that had spoken. He was surprised to see a fragile figure, it was a lady that spoke. She was beautiful, she had angelic voice and has fitted curves in the right places. She was perfect. Prince Anez put his emotions under check, she was one of the enemy. He saw the ring then, she had used it as a pendant on the chain she was wearing. It glowed softly and pulsed with power. He smirked. "And you must be the chosen protector, bearer of the ring." Eidel moved with fluid grace, she was elegant. She smiled. "Yes, I am Eidel, the first daughter of this house." She bowed. "You are most welcome Your Imperial Majesty." Prince Anez chuckled. "Are youtrying to butter me up?" Eidel smiled sadly. "No, I wouldn't dare. The ring recognizes its rightful owner and so must its bearer. "I will do it, put it on me but please leave my family out of this.The ring is with me." Mr Johnson shook his head. "Eidel no.Please don't do this to us. Eidel is sick, very sick. The restrainant will kill her, normally it kills a normal person slowly but her, she won't survive it." Prince Anez sneered. "You should be ashamed of yourself, trying to get my self pity and concern over lies." Eidel snapped. "Enough! Father please stay out of this. This is my life, my destiny. I am sorry." She turned to face Prince Anez. "I am ready, let's do this." After Prince Anez had put the retrainant on her, he allowed them to tend to his wounds. Later in the evening, Mr Johnson called Eidel. "Eidel, I am sorry. I failed to protect you, I should have looked for a way to heal the sickness eating you from inside. I know I am being selfish but which father wants to see his daughter die? Finally her most wanted enemies all in a place. "Send the assassins as soon as possible, they must kill them all except the bearer of the ring. She must be brought back to me in one piece." Her chief guard bowed and left to carry out her orders. Excellency Jinah frowned. "Why would you not kill the bearer of the ring?" Queen Lystil laughed. "Don't be so stupid Jinah. Sometimes you frustrate me. When the bearer is brought to me, I will make her willingly give me the ring of power and use it to become the Supreme Empress, then all will bow before me." She made a dramatic gesture of how she wanted it all to be. She smiled wickedly. All her plans were going accordingly. Excellency Jinah sighed. He is under Queen Lystil's spell no matter what he said. Her beauty glowed like the sun and he was in love with her. He had done everything to make her notice him and he had succeeded. He remembered the first time she invited him to share her bed and smiled, it was unforgettable. He hoped to be by her side when she became the Supreme Empress. He frowned. Prince Anez was an obstacle and he must remove him fom his way. If the prince came back alive then it would be his doom, that was why he made a plan of his own. He laughed evily, it seemed he had inherited part of Queen Lystil's wickedness and he was happy. He looked at the queen afar off, she must be his only soon. ************************* FUTURE PHILNIA Prince Anez watched her from afar, it had been weeks since he went to the future and had contacted the protectors. Even though she was his enemy, some part of his anatomy did not want to comprehend that. She was everything he wanted in his ideal woman. CHAPTER THREE Eidel saw him watching her and blushed. Her heart had never loved or beat for any man. She knew it was bad fantasizing about him but she cared less. She couldn't stop herself. The times they talked were the best, hearing his deep, rich voice did things to her. She watched as he turned and left, he moved with fluid grace, his body commanding, he was perfect. He was handsome than the mythical greek god they learned about in History class. Even though they were worlds apart, she was going to die. The thought saddened her but she learned to accept it. "A penny for your thoughts angel." Eidel turned and smiled. Drek was back. "Drek." She shrieked and hugged him. He caught her and smiled. "How have my angel been? I missed you." He kissed the tip of her nose. Eidel giggled happily. "I missed you too. I was counting the days you will be back, we have lots to talk about. And I heard about Evens attack, I am sorry." Eidel frowned. "No, it's okay, she is safe that is what matters." A deep voice spoke behind them. "Who is your lover?" Eidel and Drek turned. Eidel moved from Drek, her face flushed with embarrassment. "Hem he is." "I am called Drek, I am Eidel's friend and protector, it's an honour to meet your highness." Drek bowed in reverence. "Friends?......." Prince Anez smirked trying hard to be expressionless and pushing down the jealousy that came from nowhere. "......friends don't get that intimate, you look like lovers to me." Eidel snapped. "No, we are not and stop assuming the worst about people, can you try not to be mean?" It was obvious of the tension building between them. "Drek, Drek is back." Eve ran into Drek's outstretched arms. Drek smiled. "I missed you little princess." Eve smiled. "Missed you too." Evens cheerfulness broke the tension. Drek turned to Eidel. "Angel, we will be inside,lemme go pay respects to dad and mom." Eidel nodded while Drek bowed to Prince Anez and left with Eve. Eidel moved to move. "Mind the way you speak to me, I am a prince and a warrior, I can kill you if and when I want." Eidel sneered. "Get on with it then Your Imperial Majesty, don't hold back please." Prince Anez hissed and pushed her against the wall. "Don't push me Eidel or you will bring out the monster in me and I wonnt control myself. You act innocent yet your mind is full of evil and manipulations. Don't forget, I am your lord and master, your emperor, you are just a mere servant I can use and discard and destroy. You are worthless and useless to me, one more nonsense from you and I will kill your family bitch." Eidel pushed him away, she could not believe he said all thos mean things to her, hurting her in the process. She felt stupid falling in love with him. She wiped away her tears angrily and left without aword. Prince Anez hoped he would get satisfaction from what he said to Eidel but all he got was guilt and despair and emptiness.He wondered why he afterall, she was the one along with her family had betrayed him.

He sighed heavily, all his life had been in Sitina, in the future but that was about to change for him. Eidel nodded. "I understand father, I have sensed the queen's minions since but I do not want to upset anyone. We have to move latest the day after tomorrow, Drek said the queen's assassins are coming for us especially me." Mr Johnson spoke up. "What will you do then?" Eidel sighed. "I will give it to Prince Anez and relinquish the power of possession, so even if the queen captures me, I will be useless to her." Drek held her hands. "It's okay, we will all get through this." He turned to Mr. Johnson. "There is a safe place that you can all stay for a while, in the past it is the border between Philnia and Skornia, no one can harm you there. Moreover, the blessings of Heaven rests on that land so Eidel can still be alive for more months and if she is favoured, years." Mr Johnson's eyes lit up. "Really? My daughter can still be alive for a bit longer." Drek smiled. "Yes sir." He turned to Eidel. "And before you say no think of everyone else." Eidel sighed and nodded. "Alright then. But Drek, a favour in return please." Drek swallowed hard and smiled. "What does Angel wants?" Eidel smiled. "Please, help me guard the cocky and arrogant prince from now on, you will follow him back to Philnia and stay till he becomes Emperor then you are free to leave. Moreover, I have other assignments for you." Drek sighed. "I knew it would come to this but I will do it for you in return please stay alive." Eidel smiled and breathed in relief. "Thank you Drek, you are the best friend ever." She embraced him fiercely. "I will try and stay alive, I promise you." Mr Johnson cleared his throat. "How do you intend to convince Prince Anez to let Drek come with him?" Eidel smiled. "Do not worry about that. I will convince him just fine." Suddenly feeling tired about everything, she stood up and kissed her father. "Good night dad, I must go rest now, the ceremony before me tomorrow is stressing." Her father and Drek bade her good night and moved to their respective rooms.

She never sent me, she will kill me if she knows I told you. Please forget what I said. This conversation never happened." She stood up to leave. Thank you for you time but know that I would not have brought you here had we betrayed you." Eve bowed and left without another word. **************** Eidel found Prince Anez training at the backyard of their house. She sighed and carressed the ring again, it was time and she had to do it differently and accurately. She began to move towards him. "Good day Your Imperial Majesty." She bowed deeply. Prince Anez stopped. He was dripping with sweat all over.He finally approached and stood a few metres away from her. "What is it Eidel?" She looked at the ring then at his face. "It's time, you have earned the right to the gift of power, when you are ready, we will do the exchange ceremony, we are all waiting for you inside." She bowed and moved to leave. "Wait." He held her hand. Eidel snatched her hand awayand frowned. "Why now? Why do you want to give it now,I thought you were itching to hold on to it." Eidel fought the urge to roll her eyes and hiss at him. "You are entitled to your own opinion Your Majesty. I don't care about your thoughts. Oh! Before the exchange ceremony, you have to vow to give me a parting gift, it is part of the exchange ceremony." Prince Anez frowned. "And what is this gift?" Eidel smiled. "Drek. He will be going with you back to Old Philnia. This is the gift I aske of you." Prince Anez jaw ticked with anger. "What! Why should I do that?" Eidel shrugged. "It is what I want and you have to give me and vow to take care of him and also let him protect you else the exchange will be null and void. That has been the tradition." Prince Anez hissed. CHAPTER FOUR FUTURE PHILNIA Finally it was time to depart. Prince Anez was extremely happy, it was not a month yet and he had achieved his purpose, he sighed contentedly. But one thing that was puzzling were the protectors. He cannot understand why they were leaving but it seems they were running from the queen. He smirked. Queen Lystil would definitely roast them for dinner. "Your Majesty." He turned and faced a bowing Eidel. "What is it this time?" Eidel bowed. "I am sorry about what I said last night, I just had to do it. Believe me, the obstacles ahead is more than what you can imagine and Drek can really help you, he is a great friend, I hope you will seehim as such. And if you still think we betrayed you, it's fine, I just hope one day, you will see that we are innocent. Have a safe trip and be a great emperor. We all believe in you." She bowed again. Everyone else came and said their goodbyes. Eve and Eidel hugged Drek fiercely. Drek smiled and watched Eidel intensely. A moment of understanding passed between them. Dre hugged her again and kissed her forehead. "Stay alive my angel." He whispered for her to hear. *************************

After Drek and Prince Anez left, the Johnsons left for the portal leading to Old Philnia border. They walked in the dead of the night in order to avoid the queen's assassins sporting them. It was several days since they left Sitina and none of them complained, they all understood the danger. Suddenly Eidel fell, she had gone pale after the exchange ceremony. Eve and their mother helped her up. "Are you alright Eidel, should we stop?" Eidel shook her head. "No father, let's go, we are almost there." After a few more hours, they finally reached the portal. They looked back at Sitina and knew they were never going back to the future. Suddenly the portal opened and they all jumped in before everything went black.

Drek punched a soldier and knocked out another. "Stop shouting at me, can't you see I have no weapon?" Drek hissed. Prince Anez removed a dagger from his ankle and threw it at Drek. Together they defeated the soldiers. Prince Anez nodded at Drek. "Good moves, I like that. Anyway there is a inn ahead, let's go rest before we continue with our journey." They both left for the inn. After settling down, they were left with their own thoughts but each thinking about the same person; Eidel. Drek really wished they had crossed the border. He missed them all already. He sighedand muttered. "I hope she is alright." He closed his eyes in pain. Prince Anez sneered. "Well, if they never did anything wrong, they are not supposed to be running. That is what happens to betrayers. Too bad your girl is in trouble." Drek hissed. "Don't ever judge them. They never did anything wrong, you know only of yourself. They are all in trouble because of you and your damned ring." He stood up. "And she would have been mine if she had not fallen in love with a blind idiot. Rest, we leave here before nightfall or we are dead Your Highness." He bowed and left the room.

After a few attempts, Queen Lystil was ready to explode with anger. On hearing of Prince Anez's arrival, Prince Daleh sent out the royal guards to go escort Crown Prince Anez. Queen Lystil was livid with anger, her plans had been spoilt. She was oozing hatred for the entire royal family, she became desperate to get the ring which of course stayed close to Prince Anez's heart. ************************* Everyone waited in anticipation, they wanted to see their crown prince once again. He was the only one capable of making Queen Lystil cower in fear. As soon as they saw him, they shouted in joy. Prince Anez smiled and took his time to speak to them all. Drek wondered which side of Prince Anez was true. The mean one or the sweet one who took his time to speak and listen to his people. All the royal court came out to welcome Prince Anez. After the celebrations, the council of elders made a decision. "Since our crown prince proved himself worthy of the throne, his coronation will be in the next three months according to tradition but as of now he is the overseer of the whole Philnia Empire." A decision which of course was influenced by the queen. After leaving the court, Prince Anez met with his brother. "Welcome brother." Prince Anez smiled at his brother. "Thank you. You are looking more fit and handsome. I am really proud of you Daleh. Thank you." Prince Daleh sighed. "Please, we are brothers, stop doing that. Oh! Who is your friend?" He nodded at Drek's direction. Prince Anez hissed. "A parting gift from the chosen protector. Drek, pay your respects to my brother." Drek bowed gracefully. "My name is Drek, I am pleased to meet Your Highness." Prince Daleh nodded. "Brother, go and rest, I will show him to his room." Prince Anez nodded and left for his hall. He was glad to be back home.

"We are very sorry Your Majesty but the protectors are very smart and careful. They have covered their tracks really well." One of the soldiers replied in fear. Queen Lystil removed a sword and killed them all. "Bring a new set of more competent soldiers." They all ran to carry out her orders. The rumours of Queen Lystil's madness began to circulate in the palace. Prince Anez could not be more happy, at any chance he got, he insulted and threatened the queen who almost exploded in fury. Queen Lystil never stopped looking for ways to get the ring. It was almost the third month and she was at her wit's end. She became even more murderous. Her only mantra was:I must get the ring.

Drek hit the wood dummy harder, that was the only wy for him to calm his nerves. He had been having nightmares for almost a month and they were all the same. His Eidel was dying. He roared in fury. No way would he allow that to happen even if it meant breaking his promise. "You know, doing this every night would only give you breakdown. You will exhaust yourself." Drek moved swiftly. "Who are you? Show yourself." Prince Daleh let out a chuckle and came into view. "Don't be so jumpy Drek, it's only me." Drek bowed. "I will be leaving now." Prince Daleh stopped him. "I know my brother does not like you but that doesn't mean it's the same with me, so you don't have to be wary of me." Drek looked at him and nodded. He sat down on a bench and closed his eyes Prince Daleh saw the pain, frustration, guilt and exhaustion written on his face. It seemed Drek had a lot on his mind. "Hey,have trouble sleeping?" Drek nodded. "I saw her, always the same, she was lying cold and lifeless in my arms. She was dead. I hope nothing happened to her or her family." Prince Daleh sighed. "Now, that's bad. Who is she?" Drek smiled. It was obvious he was remembering good times. "She is an angel, a rare gem, a beauty, my heartbeat. She is the chosen protector and wearer of the ring ofpower. Her name is Eidel." Prince Daleh smiled. "It's obvious you love her." Drek smiled bitterly."But she doesn't feel the same about me." He carried up his sword and stood up to leave before he said more. He had nothing against Prince Daleh but the walls have ears. "Thank you Your Highness but I must leave now and I am sorry for disturbing you." Prince Daleh smiled. "It's okay. Truthfully, I envy you. At least you love a great woman, I have not met the right one for me." Drek smiled. "Little Eve, Eidel's sister if you meet her, you would love her." CHAPTER FIVE "What are you thinking about so much my queen?" Excellency Jinah bowed and sighed. "You think too much my love, calm down. Thinking won't give you the ring." Queen Lystil sighed. "It is almost three months and I don't have the ring yet, if Prince Anez should become emperor then we are not safe at all. What to do Jinah?" Excellency Jinah laughed. "And what if I say I know how we can get the ring?" Queen Lystil looked excited. "Really? Tell me Jinah, how?" He smiled. "Prince Anez guard, Drek the one that came with him from the future he is in love with the bearer of the ring and from what he was telling Prince Daleh, he is quite protective of her too. So I looked into his background and realized that he is from Skornia. He is hiding her in the border." Queen Lystil laughed. "Yes! Well done Jinah, I promise to reward you big my love. Come, we have to plan but first there is something more pressing." She smiled and led him to her hall.

Prince Anez rolled over again. He had been tossing and turning and had not been able to sleep. He finally sat up at the break of dawn. He could not understand why his heart and body are cooperating against him now. For the past weeks, he had been battling with his sanity when it came to Eidel. He just didn't understand why his heart wanted her. He had taken many ladies to his bed ever since he went back to old Philnia but the face he always saw was Eidel's. He had tried so hard to convince himself that she was a betrayer and could not be trusted that she was in cahoots with the queen but his heart had other plans. He stood up and entered the washing room. He tried and pushed Eidel's fragile body to the back of his mind. On his way to the royal court, he met the queen who was smiling at him, he wondered what evil plan she was cooking again. As if she had read his mind, she laughed. "Oh! Don't worry love, you will soon know of my plans for you and you will love it." Prince Anez sneered and walked away. "Not this time." He thought.

As the blindfold was removed, Eidel took in the room she was brought into. It was a work of art, everything was beautiful including the feminine throne that was at the centre. She frowned. She still did not know who are captors were. She looked at her surroundings again, she did not like the sinking feeling at the pit of her stomach. Suddenly the double doors at the entrance of the room opened and a beautiful woman entered. She was smirking at Eidel but her eyes were blazing with hatred. "Welcome to my Eidel Johnson Jerold. I have been expecting you chosen protector." The woman made a sweeping gesture with her hands. Eidel gasped. Why had she not seen it before, the crest of the Philnia Empire royal family. "You-you-you must be Queen Lystil." Eidel breathed out. "Of course darling, the one and only." Eidel frowned. "What do you want from me? I no longer have the ring." the queen laughed. "Of course you don't but you can retract the words you used to relinquish the ring to the prince and relinquish the ring and its power to me instead." Eidel gasped. He was restrained by her guards on getting there. "Open this door else I will break it down." Suddenly the doors swung open and the chief guard came out. "Leave him, her majesty expects him." Drek entered and faced the queen. "Where is she? I know you are holding her here. Let me see her." Queen Lystil laughed. "Ever since I saw you, I knew you are a very intelligent man and a very handsome one too but why do you love a girl who clearly do not feel for you?" She began to caress him. "Let me love you and I will fufill all the desires of your heart including the physical ones."

I should have protected you better, look out for you. Are you okay? You look pale." Eidel nodded. "I am fine, no matter what don't lose focus, remember, everything depends on you, I believe in you." Prince Anez sneered. "Is this another evil scheme of yours Eidel? Well, I am not buying it." He turned to Queen Lystil "Do your worst but I am not playing your games witch." He left angrily. Drek faced the queen. "She is innocent, leave her out of this, release her." She smiled. "Not until I get what I want and you love knows what that is. After you get it then, we will negotiate. Now leave." They dragged him out.

A quick flash back to the previous episodes. Prince Anez is fighting to get a grip on his power so he went to the future to get back a ring that belonged to the royal family from the protectors. The chosen protector fell in love with him but he hates her and her family because he thinks they have betrayed him.

Continuation Drek found Prince Anez at his training ground. He approached him and bowed. "Your Highness, are you going to leave her there, the queen will kill her." Prince Anez shrugged . "It is none of my business. She got what she deserved, she shouldn't have betrayed me and maybe I would have done everything to get her out. And Drek don't disturb me about this again else I will cut off your head." Drek glared at him, "The Johnsons made a mistake of sticking to loyalty, they should have done the wrong thing by not giving you the ring.This decision of yours will later come back to bite you in the ass but know this you will soon be a murderer and the whole world will know of your cruelty." Drek bowed and stalked away to his quarters.

Prince Daleh strode to meet his brother who was looking furious. "You know I think Drek is right. what if your hatred for Queen Lystil and her minions have blinded you, what if these people are not what you portray them to be? At the end you will be guilt ridden." Prince Anez glared at his brother. "Have they brainwashed you too? Are you my brother or theirs?" Prince Daleh smiled. "I am still your brother but I don't understand this side of yours. What happened to the kind hearted and strong prince I used to know? Anyway take a good look at yourself, I hope you see what everyone else is seeing." He bowed and left him to his thoughts while he proceeded to Drek's chambers. "Drek, it's me open the door." Drek opened the door for prince Daleh who punched him hard in the face. "That is for my brother you don't talk to him anyhow or I spoil your handsome face. How do you want him to gain respect if you speak to him like an idiot. Be warned, I won't tolerate this again." Drek bowed. "I am sorry your Highness, I will apologize to him later in the evening." Prince Daleh nodded and sat down. "I am sorry too for punching you. He is the only family I have left and it pains me to see him fighting for his right. See Drek I really understand what you are going through right now but you need a clear head to sort things out." Drek sighed. "You are right Your Highness I really don't know what to do anymore I am fed up." Prince Daleh smiled. "It's okay to be tired but giving up is an act of cowardice. Tell me, the person your girl is in love with is my brother right?" Drek nodded sadly. Prince Daleh sighed. "You really are a good person with all this on ground, yet you still guard my brother thank you." Drek smiled. "His Highness might have a few problems but deep down he is a great person. I only have one way of getting Eidel out of there but it won't be pretty especially if the crown Prince gets to know." Prince Daleh smiled. " You will use the ring as exchange is that not so? " Drek nodded. "That is the only way." They both stayed in silence for a while before Prince Daleh spoke up. "Do it Drek. You were the one who told me how Eidel gave the ring her lifeline to my brother. Now we will do the same. I know you will sort it out and my brother will still get his throne so, do it." Drek opened and closed his mouth several times before saying "Thank you."

CHAPTER SIX Excellency Jinah was over the clouds, he couldn't believe his luck. He was feeling extremely happy when he entered Queen Lystil's hall.He saw Eidel bound and smirked. "Well, well, well, if it is not our dear bearer of the ring. Are you still proving stubborn? You must see something." He removed the ring of power and threw it in the air. He caught it and smiled. Eidel gasped and closed her eyes in pain. "How did you get that?" He laughed. "Oh this? Your loyal boyfriend Drek brought it yesterday in exchange for your freedom. He will be coming to get you after the exchange ceremony lucky you." Just then the Queen entered. She saw the ring and smiled. "Finally it's done, all that is left is the exchange ceremony. But Jinah did you check if it is the original ring of power?" He laughed. "Yes, I did. The goldsmiths did the necessary rites and tested it, it even glowed than before and brought out the symbols etched on it. It is authentic. Queen Lystil laughed wickedly. " Very good Jinah you have done well. Now child do the exchange. Tsk tsk tsk. For a man to compromise his honour for you, you are not naive, see two handsome and strong men at your whim." Eidel rolled her eyes. "Thank God I don't have your skills of bedding the whole Philnia male folk. I never caused your bad luck else prince Anez would have really loved you like you love him." The queen gasped. "You, what are you ranting about?" Eidel laughed. "I have eyes, your intense hatred for me and the way you look at the crown Prince. He is too young for you Lystil. As for you Excellency, she is just using you after she gets what she wants,she will discard you, better watch your back." The Queen slapped Eidel. "You wench better shut your mouth before I do it for you." "Is it true Your Majesty? What she said are they the truth?" Excellency Jinah asked quietly. The Queen faced him. "Partly. I was in love with the Crown Prince Anez but it's not that I am using you. Believe me love after I become Empress, you will be by my side.I promise." He smiled. "I do trust you. Now allow me to go prepare for the great ceremony while you make the ring legitimately yours." He left seething with anger and promising himself to make the Crown Prince pay painfully. "Now do the exchange girl, I have a throne to ascend." She glared at Eidel. Eidel yawned. "This will be a long day because I won't do it." Queen Lystil frowned. "Then you will see hell on earth."

Continuation A few days later, Prince Anez was summoned to the court. Excellency Jonah sneered as he entered. They all rose and bowed after which the session began. "Can you please produce the ring of power Your Highness. It is a month today and we have to verify if it is the right ring or not." One of the elders spoke. Prince Anez sighed. "I don't have it." The elders looked at one another in shock. "What does that mean. Have you been deceiving us Your Highness." "Yes, he has." The Queen entered smiling. "Prince Anez is a fraud, he never brought the ring, he lied." The elders gasped in shock. "But the priestess felt the power of the ring when the crown Prince entered Philnia. How possible is that?" Queen Lystil laughed. "That was because the chosen protector also brought the ring that same day. The ring has been relinquished to me by the bearer. The ring chose me." She brought it out for them all to see. After it had been passed round, they all agreed it was the ring of power. Excellency Jonah hissed. "You, Prince Anez are a cheat, liar, and fraudster and we need a person with purified heart. Now you are not fit for the throne, Queen Lystil will become the empress in two days time. You will be punished for your sins after the coronation of our new monarch. Now leave our presence." Prince Anez glared at them and left the court. Outside the throne room he met Elder Drez who smiled and nodded at him in approval. "You are a great man my prince and you have done well. I am proud of you and your father will be too. Patience, you will get what is rightfully yours." Prince Anez smiled and thanked the old man then he left for his hall.

Prince Anez frowned when Drek went on his knees. "And what are you doing Drek?" Drek bowed his head. "I have committed a crime worthy of death please kill me your Highness. I won't try to give any excuse." Prince Anez sighed. "If this is about the ring it is alright, I know you took it." Prince Daleh smiled. "Was it that obvious?" Prince Anez smirked. "Of course but I let you take it because I wanted to give you and Eidel a chance. I am sorry for accusing you all wrongly, Daleh is right my bitterness for the queen blinded me, I hope you will all forgive me. You should go get Eidel and let her know that I am sorry." Prince Anez looked more tired at that moment than Drek had ever seen him, Drek felt really sorry for him. "Your Highness, I promise you will get to sit on that throne. Even if it is the last thing I do, I will see you sit on your rightful throne." Drek bowed. "Please excuse me." He left the two princes standing shocked. Prince Anez finally spoke after a few minutes. "I know that he is up to no good." Prince Daleh smiled. "I totally agree with you and why do I feel that the queen is in trouble? She should not have messed with Drek. Anyway brother, let's go inside and wait for two days time." Prince Anez smiled sadly and followed his brother. Queen Lystil glared at Eidel, the girl had guts. She had been so happy that morning and had left the elders' council in the throne room trying to plan how they were going to conduct the coronation ceremony. One of her guards entered and whispered in her ear. She smiled evily and nodded. "Very well, you may go." She dismissed the guard and proceeded to where Eidel was been tortured. "Is she still refusing to cave in?" "Yes, your majesty." Queen Lystil tsked. "Come on even your Prince Anez has given up. If you continue this way then I have no choice but to involve your family in this. My assassins reported that they are almost here with them, your parents and sister Eve right? Shame I can bet she is still young. It will be a shame for them all to die." Eidel hissed. "You witch, leave my family out of this, they are not involved." The queen smiled. "Wrong darling, they are your family this makes them involved. What is your choice? See them die right in front of you knowing you caused their deaths or just doing the exchange ceremony. I give you an hour to choose." She airkissed Eidel and turned to leave. "Wait! I will do the ceremony just leave my family alone." The queen pouted. "Awwwww! She loves her family. Alright then your family won't be harmed. Now let's start." Eidel smiled. "It does not work that way Lystil, we have to give gifts first that is why it is an exchange ceremony, I relinquish the power ox the ring and you in turn give me a gift. A gift I get to choose. Oh! And you must vow to fulfill and give this gift else the ring won't accept you. If you doubt me please try and break the oath and see wonders." Queen Lystil glared at her. "Stop calling me by my name else I will cut your tongue. And why do I feel that the gift you want is bad?" Eidel chuckled. "That is because it is bad for you and great for me. So do we have a deal Lystil?" Eidel smirked. The queen was ready to explode, she knew she had to be wary of Eidel, people like her are poisonous. "Yes, we do name your gift." "A promise of life. This is the greatest gift a bearer can ask for. You cannot touch me neither can you touch the people close to me, anything that is mine is off limits and we are free to do what we want anytime. You are powerless against us Lystil, if you break this oath then the ring of power will turn against you." Queen Lystil smiled. "Okay then I accept and will uphold this promise." Eidel shook her head. "Not so fast. You cannot kill me to get out of this oath. If you are thinking that when I die then you can be free of this oath you are deceiving yourself. The oath is binding until the day you die how about that?" Queen Lystil hissed. "Witch,you are so evil wench." Eidel frowned. "Enough! What is wrong with you? This should not be a problem for you since you exchanged your womb for dark powerful magic. This is the price to pay when you covet power, this is the implications and consequences. Just a little mistake will destroy you. Anyone who wants to get power forcefully should prepare for the aftermath. And it is this greediness that will kill you, I assure you." The queen looked at Eidel in fear. "How do you know so much about me? What are you?" Eidel sighed. "You are boring. I am the bearer of the ring, I am a child born of the past and future in exchange for my short life I have much knowledge and possess powers past protectors and bearers have never gotten. This is why I am Eidel daughter of time. Now please let's start." After the exchange ceremony, Drek was sent for by the queen's guards. One look at Eidel's battered face and Drek was ready to go to war with the queen but she squeezed his hands and smiled. She had gone extremely pale. "Please leave it alone, let's go I beg you." He nodded and carried her out of the queen's hall as she began to lose consciousness, Drek ran all the way to Prince Anez hall in fear.

"She is very sick and she is dying from inside, she has just few weeks to live, she would have been dead but it seems a force is helping her. She is a strong woman. Please excuse me your highness." After the exit of the physician, Drek slumped to the floor and closed his eyes in pain. Prince Anez couldn't believe his ears. She was dying, suddenly he remembered the time Eve came and met him. "Eidel was born with an incurable disease and it is currently eating her up without the healing power from the ring, she will die within days, can you please help her?" He gasped. "It was true, this is all my fault." He knelt in front of Drek. "I am so sorry, I made her this way. Because of my bitterness I have put many people in danger, I am so foolish." Drek looked at him in pity. "It's okay Your Highness, no on can blame you for what happened." Prince Anez shook his head. "No, it's all my fault." He backed out of the room hastily. Prince Daleh and Drek looked for him for several hours before they found him in another section of the palace where he was punching the wall angrily. "Stop it brother are you going to spoil your hands?" Prince Daleh pulled him to a seat. Drek sighed. "Please stop this your highness I beg you." Prince Anez closed his eyes and placed his head in his hands. "You both don't understand. I am killing her, I am a murderer I should have listened to them I should have left the ring for her and save her. Her family will never forgive me." His brother frowned. "No it is not your fault even if you had listened and believed there is nothing you could have done." Drek sighed. "Nobody will hold this against you don't beat yourself up on it please. They both helped him back to his hall and stayed with him to ensure he did not harm himself. Queen Lystil looked out of the window of her throne room she was still angry over the fact that Eidel bested her. She was still stunned even though it had been a few hours. "A penny for your thoughts my queen." Excellency Jinah bowed and planted a kiss on her cheek. "Why do you look sad and worried my love? You have won already." She smiled and faced him. "I don't know Jinah, I am having a very bad feeling about Prince Anez and Eidel. They are both trouble on their own not to talk of working together." Excellency Jinah smiled. "Don't worry nothing will ever go wrong you should go prepare yourself." She smiled. "Alright, I will." As soon as Excellency Jinah left the Queen's hall he made plans of his own. He instructed his guards to keep an eye on Prince Anez and Eidel. Whatever happened, he left no stone unturned.

"Your Royal Highness she is awake." Prince Anez nodded and followed the maid that delivered the news, he couldn't be more happier to hear she was conscious. "I am really relieved to see you awake angel." Drek smiled at Eidel. "Who is he?" She nodded weakly at Prince Daleh. Prince Daleh smiled and curtsied. "Prince Daleh at your service my lady." Eidel bowed weakly. Just then Prince Anez entered. They all bowed to him. "How are you feeling now Eidel?" He touched her forehead and frowned. "Your temperature is hot." Eidel pushed his hand away. "I am fine, no need to worry your handsome self Your Majesty. Please can I rest now?" Prince Anez looked at her painfully. "I am sorry Eidel I didn't....." Eidel snapped at him. "Can you please leave, you make my ears ache." She turned her back at him. Drek hissed. "Stop that will you Eidel." Prince Anez touched Drek and smiled sadly. "It's okay, I will leave." He left with Prince Daleh in tow. After they left Eidel turned back. Drek sighed and sat down. "What is it now Eidel, what do you want him to do he apologized already." Eidel hissed. "Like I care please leave me and let this matter be. Check on my family at the border please." Drek sighed again and nodded. "I will." A day had passed and yet there was still no solution for Prince Anez. it was a cool evening and he was sitter at his hall garden with Prince Daleh and Drek. Prince Daleh was pacing furiously while Drek was in a thoughtful mood. "What are we to do now?" He asked agitatedly. "The coronation is tomorrow." He added. Prince Anez sighed. "It's okay Daleh there is nothing more to be done, the fault is no one's except the people who decided to transfer imperial powers to a ring, if only they sought after the people's welfare instead of powers, things might be different now." Prince Daleh hissed. "But you are the rightful heir to the throne, it is yours that witch will spoil everything." Prince Anez smiled. "I will leave for a while and come back after a few weeks." Prince Daleh felt like punching lights out of his brother. "Drek please talk my brother is running mad, he is out of his mind." Drek smiled. "But you can't say that, when there is life, there is hope." I will try and sneak into the queen's hall tonight in search of the ring. I have been watching her since three days ago and I know of two places where I am sure the ring will be kept." Prince Daleh nodded in approval.

"There is no need for all that stress." Eidel appeared at the entrance of the garden and bowed to Prince Anez and Prince Daleh. "There is no need for worrying Lystil will not be crowned Empress tomorrow." Prince Daleh frowned. "Why do you say that?" Eidel sat down at the far end of the garden and sniffed the air. "It's such a beautiful night." She sighed and smiled. She brought out a small purse and gave it to Prince Anez. "What is this?" He eyed the purse suspiciously. Eidel yawned. "Open and you will see." Prince Anez opened the purse and gasped. He brought out the ring and widened his eyes. "How- how did you get this?" Eidel smirked. "This ring has been in this purse for five years now, this will be the first time it has seen light in five years." Drek wowed. "Then what about the one you gave the queen?" Prince Daleh asked. Eidel shrugged. "It was a duplicate. I knew something like this might happen when the queen approached my family so I made this plan." Prince Anez smiled. "Thank you Eidel I am glad." She stood up to leave. "I am just doing my duty as a protector. Good night." CONTINUATION The whole court rose up at the arrival of Queen Lystil. There was an overflow of emotions in the great court yard where the coronation was to take place. While the supporters in of the queen were happy and joyous, the people and other elders were filled with dread, sadness and despair. They would all give their lives to see Crown Prince Anez become Emperor and not the wicked queen. The queen laughed mischeviously. Finally, she got what she wanted, the throne. She signalled to the rites minister to start the ceremony. He bowed respectfully. "Today, we are here for the coronation of our great queen, Queen Lystil of Skornia as the supreme ruler and empress of our great empire. Without further delay, I ask the leader of the elders' council, Excellency Jinah to come forward and complete the rites by installing our empress." Excellency Jinah walked majestically to the front to him, he was on top of the world he made to crown the queen but was stopped by Prince Anez. "And what are you doing here?" His eyes were darkened with fury.

Prince Anez smiled and addressed the entire court and citizens. He did not fail to reveal the evil plans made by the queen and excellency Jinah, he then brought out the ring. "Everyone believe me the queen and excellency Jinah have been deceiving us all. They even went so far as kidnapping the bearer of the ring just because they want it. Hear for yourself." Eidel came forward and bowed. "I am Eidel, bearer of the ring of power. I am obliged to tell the truth and believe me you all have unknowingly been under the oppression of the queen and her accomplices. I had to give a fake ring, a duplicate of the ring of power to her because she threatened me and my family. Your Crown Prince risked his life for you all, he is a brave man and a good leader, I present to you a man of justice. Good day." She bowed and walked away supported by Prince Anez' guards. Immediately she left pandemonium broke out, people became really furious and angry, some tried to stone the queen while others just walked away. Queen Lystil couldn't believe she had been tricked, she could not breathe, she looked at them furiously. She would never let them succeed, if she won't be empress then the prince won't be emperor too. She shrieked in anger. "Soldiers attack and kill the Crown prince he must not live." Suddenly the whole courtyard became a place of violence, knives clashed with swords and axes clashed with spears. Drek went to protect Prince Anez while Prince Daleh ordered the soldiers. It was not long before it became a fierce battle, for more than an hour soldiers were fighting, clashing and cutting down one another, blood flowed and filled the courtyard. When it became obvious that the queen's army was losing, she and excellency Jinah fled from the palace. When the princes found out they sent Drek to bring them back. After defeating the soldiers, Prince Anez went from one place to the other in order to calm down and reassure the people. An urgent meeting presided by Elder Drez was held by the elders' council and they unanimously agreed to crown Prince Anez emperor as soon as possible in order to restore peace. An announcement was made throughout the empire to effect the decision.

CHAPTER EIGHT Eidel sighed and paced the garden she found calmness in smelling the flowers and walking around the garden. She smiled as she cited her favorite flower. She inhaled the scent and smiled again. "It is a beautiful night right?" Eidel shrieked and turned to see Prince Anez smiling at her. She bowed and stood up to leave. He held her hand and pulled her to him. "Did I say something wrong? Why are you avoiding me? I apologized to you what else do you want me to do?" She swallowed and looked at him. "Please leave me alone Your Majesty I am not in the mood for this." He sighed and closed his eyes. "Do you know how hard it has been for me in the last three months? How hard it is for me to restrain myself around you? Why are you figuring me when you know how much I like you." Eidel held her breath and tried to slow down her fast beating heart. He was lying, he doesn't like her, he was just playing her, she repeated them to herself. She jerker her hand away. "You don't have to lie to me, for what reason will you like a betrayer, a traitor. No, you just want to bed me that is all. People like you cannot love all you want is a warm bed and you picked the wrong person to come to. If you think otherwise because of what I said at the courtyard this morning then you misunderstand. I only said that because it is my duty to. Please excuse me Your Majesty I have better things to do." She left while he punched a wall and injured himself. After his temper calmed he moved to his training ground. Never had he been disgraced and rejected. All the feelings of fear, unworthiness, and being unloved all came back to him. He hit the training dummy harder. That was the only way to channel his anger and be rid of it. Prince Daleh sighed and watched his brother from afar, he had been like that for a few hours and was showing no sign of stopping himself. He knew there was no signs of stopping his brother so he left for his hall. On his way he met Eidel who bowed and walked past him. "Eidel can I walk with you?" He gave her his most effective boyish grin. Eidel nodded and he followed. "Forgive me for the things I want to say to you but I think this is the best thing to do." Eidel nodded. "Is this about his majesty?" He smiled. "Yes my lady. I will say you have misjudged my brother. I won't deny he has behaved really bad to you but he has apologized already what more do you want from him? Please forgive him and let everything end." Eidel shrugged. "None of this is my business, he should leave me alone. I don't want to have anything to do with him." She made to leave. "You think it is all his fault? He bore the brunt of our father's mistakes. The queen made life a living hell for him, he was thoroughly abused by her, he could not grasp authority until father's death, the first woman he loved and wanted to marry also turned out to be a puppet of the queen. They almost destroyed his life. Since then he had grown quite insecure. So you see what he needs is not condemnation but people who will see him through. I am not making an excuse for him but I thought you were better." He bowed and left her standing stunned and shocked.

"Your highness I am back." Prince Anez nodded. "Good job. Where are they?" "They are in the dungeon your highness should I send for them?" Prince Anez smiled. "No, let's go pay them a visit." Drek and the prince went to the dungeon, the queen was furious when she saw them but he bursted into laughter. "And what is so funny? Because you won now does not mean it is the end. I will still make a comeback." He laughed harder even Drek was surprised. "Oh dear I feel so light hearted today. Lystil I am not through with you in any way, you think your people are still in my court? No way. I made sure everyone is scrubbed clean, everyone of them is in exile now and I will show you and your lover here no mercy. I won't kill you because death is sweet and swift but I will make living hell for you. You took many precious things from me especially people I love, you have no idea what damage you have caused and I promise to pay you back in your own coin." He signalled to Drek and they left the dungeon. "I am sorry Your highness." Prince Anez turned and looked at Drek. "For what reason? You did not offend me." Drek nodded. "But Eidel did. I am sorry for all she said to you and the way she treated you please forgive her." He smiled and sighed. "It's okay Drek I have treated her worse and said more nasty things to her so I can't blame her. I hope that one day she will forgive me." Drek smiled. "Do you love her?" He nodded. "I do. I realized that late but I really love her. Enough about that, how about her family did you send for them like I asked?" "Yes, your highness, they should be here in time for the coronation. You should go rest now Your highness I will take care of everything else." Prince Anez smiled. "Thank you Drek, I owe you plenty and I am grateful you don't hate me. Goodnight." He left for his hall while Drek moved to Prince Daleh's hall. "Did you make sure he went to his hall to sleep?" Drek sipped the wine the prince offered. "Yes my prince, but I know things will be okay now." Prince Daleh nodded and they both allowed silence to take over.

He only wished his father would have seen the liberation of his people. "Your Majesty, the elders are here." His eunuch informed him and he nodded. He turned and entered the throne room. They all rose and bowed at his entrance. Elder Drez spoke up. "Congratulations Your Majesty whatever you need us to do just command us we are at your service." Emperor Anez smiled. "No, there will be much of public opinions and less commanding. I won't be like my forefathers who believed they could do all on their own and ended up failing. I promise to serve you all well, I hope you will all give me the chance. And as for the ring, it will no longer be the criteria for being a leader anymore. From today onwards leaders and rulers in Philnia will be chosen on merit and servitude. This is my decree." Everyone stood and bowed, the era had changed and it was for the better. Drek ran to the gates on hearing of the Johnson's arrival. He bowed respectfully to Eidel's parents and hugged Eve tightly. "You are welcome his majesty awaits your arrival." They swallowed nervously. He smiled. "You don't have to worry his majesty is not like that anymore." He took them to the grand palace where the emperor was staying. Emperor Anez warmly received them while Drek excused himself. He apologized profusely and asked for their forgiveness. "Really? They are here?" Drek smiled as Eidel ran to the grand palace to see her parents. It was a reunion of the Johnsons. Prince Daleh entered amidst the reunion and coughed. "What's going on here?" Eidel bowed and introduced her family to him. "And you must be Eve." He smiled at Eve who cocked her and eyebrows at him. "It seems someone has been talking about me." Drek sighed. "Come on Eve it's okay, let me show you all to your place of rest. Please come with me." He motioned at the Johnsons who along with Eidel followed him out of the grand palace. After their departure, Emperor Anez breathed out in relief.

CHAPTER NINE It had been months since the emperor was crowned and the empire was once again at peace. After the coronation Emperor Anez made Drek his chief guard and Eidel a lady of the court. Prince Daleh also made an official in the royal court. Queen Lystil and her minions were exiled to the outskirts of the empire where they were never heard from. Philnia was becoming powerful and a threat to other nations. "Is there really no solution?" The priestess and Elder Drez exchanged glances and sighed. Their actions have already spoken. There was none. Emperor Anez sat on his seat dejectedly. For months he had been looking for ways to cure Eidel after his coronation, they tried to come up with solutions but they had all proved abortive. The priestess looked at the emperor and sighed again, she couldn't blame him, she vowed in her heart then to get to know the cure to Eidel's sickness. She knew the medications she was giving her were becoming useless and failing but she did not want the emperor to know. She motioned to Elder Drez and they bowed and left. "Eidel are you okay? Talk to me." She smiled and turned to face her father. "Of course, I am okay." He nodded to her in understanding and left. Eidel knew what her father was thinking, he was becoming more withdrawn by the day, it was all because of her sickness. She wiped a tear that had escaped from her eye. She needed to be strong for her family to the end, she had already accepted her fate that she would die so she made up her mind to live healthy till the day she died. "A penny for your thoughts my lady." Eve bowed dramatically. She had a very serious look on her face and Eidel bursted into laughter. "I have told you severally to stop calling me that. So to what do I owe this visit." Eve sat down and smiled. "No reason I just came to look for your trouble. Sis, don't you ever miss the future, our friends, school?" "Of course I do. But I feel like I am home with my family so I think less of the future these days. To better things how is Prince Daleh, are you taking good care of him? I know what is going on between you two, just be careful that's all." Eve smiled and nodded. "I will sis. Have you made up your mind yet?" She frowned at her sister. "About what? What are you talking about?" Eve smiled. "You and his majesty. He drools whenever he sees you since you are becoming more beautiful by the day. I guess he can't take his eyes off you. Or are you still acting cold to him?" Eidel bowed her head and sighed heavily. "No, that one was by gone already." Eve shrugged. "Okay, then why are you avoiding him? Did he do something wrong again?" Eidel glared at her sister. "Nothing gets past you right? You like poke nosing into my matters." "Hey relax sis, you have been sighing more these days than you have ever done in your whole teenage years. What is wrong?" Eidel sighed again. "He asked me to marry him Eve, he knows I am sick, by would he do that?" Eve smiled and looked at her sister, she pitied her, when things were bad for their family then, they were all happy and at peace with what they had until few weeks before the whole drama started. She prayed for that part of her sister to come back. The less worrying and carefree part. "Sis, do what your heart wants, that way it will be easier for you and all of us." She embraced her sister and left. Emperor Anez paced the garden, his eyebrows were drawn together with worry. He couldn't make out what to do with Eidel. He closed his eyes and smiled. He could remember her smile, her soft hands, the sound of her voice. He made up his mind to help her no matter what. "It's been a while since I have seen this smile on your face." Prince Daleh smirked at his brother. Emperor Anez smiled broadly. "I asked her to marry me Daleh, I love her so much. I know she will say no but I will find a way to convince her." Prince Daleh bursted into laughter. "I want to continue to see this side of you. Be rest assured your majesty, Eidel will live and she will accept your proposal." Emperor Anez nodded. He smiled again and hugged his brother. Ever since they became orphans his brother had become his confidant. "Thank you Daleh." Prince Daleh chuckled. "It is good to see this your radiant face. This hasn't been since Lieda." Emperor Anez sneered. "Don't talk about that woman to me." He bowed and smiled again then bade his brother and left. Emperor Anez watched his brother leave and smiled.

It had been few weeks since Emperor Anez got the reports of the priestess about Eidel, her health was deteriorating by the hour and he doubted if she would make it till the end of the week. He wished he could reverse time and loved her the more. He looked at the ring on his finger and hissed. It was all because of the ring, it all started because of the hunger for the power in the ring. He removed it angrily and threw it against the wall. Drek rushed in and sighed. "Please calm yourself your majesty, anger won't solve the issue, you should rest." Emperor Anez hissed. "This guilt is eating me up Drek, every time I see her and her family I feel like I am responsible for their plight, like I am their enemy. Being protectors for the royal household caused all these. That ring with all its power caused all the chaos happening now, that small thing. We need to be rid of its power else Philnia will never be the same again." Drek nodded and began to pacify him, never in his life had he seen someone so miserable, he wished he could help in anyway. The voice of the eunuch brought him back to reality. Prince Daleh came in followed by the priestess. They both bowed and sat down. Prince Daleh raised his eyebrows at the mess his brother made. He picked up his ring and smiled. "Your majesty, I have told you to stop throwing tantrums like a child, this........" He pointed at the mess. ".......won't help matters in anyway." Emperor Anez sighed. "I just can't help myself Daleh, this matter is getting out of hand, what do I do?" The priestess bowed her head, she understood the grave danger regarding the ring. "Your majesty I know of a way to get rid of the ring and heal lady Eidel at the same time." She spoke up. He looked at the priestess wide eyed. He touched his ears to confirm his hearing was perfectly all right. After being dumbfounded for a few minute he talked and broke the uncomfortable silence. "Are you sure of what you are saying? There is a way to end all these?" "Yes, your majesty but it entails a lot of sacrifice." She bowed. Prince Daleh urged her to continue. "Well, for this to work we need to seal Lady Eidel's lifeline with his Majesty's. This is the only way and it can only be you because you are the only one wielding the power in the ring." Silence overwhelmed the whole room even the birds stopped chirping. The silence became uncomfortable and overbearing. The priestess began to get worried and squirmed on her seat. Finally Prince Daleh broke the silence. "How do we do this priestess?" She sighed and continued. "It can only be done on the day of the full moon when the portal between the past and the future will be opened, the ring will be placed in a bowl and the blood of his majesty and Lady Eidel will be collected in this bowl after which his majesty will make a promise of life and protection into the bowl, then they will both drink of the blood and the bowl will be placed in the portal." Prince Daleh nodded heavily. "And what happens to the ring and the bowl will they disappear?" "No, the ring has become an entity of time so it will dissolve to form a part of the bowl. This bowl is called 'the mud bowl'. It is very powerful and must be handled with care." Prince Daleh turned and faced his brother. "Brother, what do you have to say?" Emperor Anez looked at them both and pleaded. "Leave me please." They both bowed and left.

CHAPTER TEN (FINAL CHAPTER) "My lady please open your eyes, who is there please hurry and call the physicians." Few days after the meeting between Emperor Anez, his brother and the priestess, Eidel got worse and her health deteriorated rapidly. She began to run temperature and she fainted frequently. Finally she was transferred to the royal palace clinic and the emperor's attention was drawn to her case. "I am so sorry your majesty but I already told you months ago that Lady Eidel cannot live much longer and we can't cure her. We are sorry for our incompetence your majesty." The head physician nodded apologetically. The emperor nodded and signalled for everyone to leave. After their departure he sat down beside Eidel's almost lifeless body. He smiled bitterly and kissed her forehead. "I am sorry my princess, I will make everything right, I will do what needs to be done." Drek entered and bowed. "You need to rest now your majesty, you have not rested since she was brought in last night. Please come with me." Emperor Anez chuckled. "Drek, she is beautiful is she not?" Drek smiled. "She is an angel." The emperor nodded. "I am sorry I took her away from you Drek maybe she would have been happier with you." He bowed his head and put it in his hands. Drek sighed. "Maybe but I can tell she is more happy being with you. It is not your fault that things went wrong, this might be the will of the heavens." He hissed. "If so then I will have to change the will of heaven because my beloved will not die. Summon my brother and the priestess, I have made my decision, I am ready for the binding ritual." Drek protested vehemently. "This is so risky your majesty is there no other way?" "None Drek and if it comes to the worst, I will give my life for her." Drek sighed and bowed. "As your majesty pleases, I will go do as you have ordered." He made to leave. "Drek, please prepare for the ritual, tomorrow is full moon we don't have much time." Drek bowed again. "Yes, your majesty." He left for the divination palace where the rituals preparations started.

Emperor Anez looked around the portal, he could not believe he was there few months earlier to fight for his life and his throne. Prince Daleh brought him out of his thoughts. "It is time." They placed Eidel beside the portal and waited for the portal to open. As soon as it was opened, the ring was placed in the bowl and collected by the priestess. "Please drop your blood now Your Majesty." He sighed. "How will we know it worked?" ""The ring will melt with the bowl else it will become pitch black without melting." He nodded and cut his palm then made his blood drip into the bowl. After the same was done to Eidel the emperor recited his promise. "I offer today my blood and power to you, to live as I live and to leave as I leave. I promise you protection of life all through your existence. So shall it be." He forced open Eidel's mouth and made her swallow the bloos mixture after which he drank. Immediately the bowl was placed in the portal it began to glow and melted with the ring after which it remolded itself. The priestess smiled and bowed. "Congratulations by your majesty, the ceremony is successful, her ladyship should wake up soon." For the first time in months, the emperor was totally relieved of his heart burden. He instructed his guards to carry Eidel back to the palace. He looked up and smelled the air. He turned to his brother and Drek. "Isn't the night beautiful? I feel like celebrating." They both laughed and nodded. It was nice seeing him smile. Prince Daleh whispered to Drek. "I am thankful I have my brother back." They all rode silently back to the palace, each left with his thoughts. ...........Eidel was flying and floating at the same time. She found herself among beautiful and heavenly creatures, the atmosphere was serene and peaceful. She didn't feel like going anywhere else. She spotted her favorite flower and smelled it. She smiled and looked around, this was heaven. She began to him to herself, she felt whole, complete and strong, full of life. She had not felt that way since her illness began. Suddenly she heard someone calling her name from afar. The sound was pulling her but she could not resist it. "Eidel, wake up, open your eyes." She blinked severally before opening her eyes. She saw her family smiling down at her. "What happened mother?" "You have been unconscious for days now how are you feeling?" "I am feeling strong and fine " She looked around and realized she had been dreaming but the feeling of strength still remained. "What is wrong with me? I have never felt this strong." Eve smiled. "It really worked, I am so happy." Eidel looked from one to another. "Father, what happened while I was unconscious please tell me." Her father smiled and held her hands. "This is all because of the benevolence of his majesty." He narrated to her all that happened while she was unconscious. Her mouth was gaped open and Eve was laughing while their mother being emotional started crying. After her father finished she added. "You owe him Eidel, you really do. I have never seen this kind of love, he really loves you." They all embraced her and left her to rest.

She quickly went on her knees and bowed. "Your grace is immeasurable your majesty. I will forever be in your debt." He smiled and helped her to her feet. "No, Eidel I did nothing. In fact I did myself and my people a favor because there is no more ring of power. Moreover if I die today you die too, it's just like buying time for you." Eidel nodded. "Thank you your majesty. But why? Why would you risk your life to heal me, I have not been good to you." He moved closer to her and held her. He looked into her eyes and smiled. "Eidel should know why I am dong this. I know I have not been the best and I still may not be the best but I love you princess, I really love you and will do anything to make you happy. I just want to see a smile on your beautiful face. And please don't thing I did this to request you to be my empress. If you don't love me, it's fine I only hope you will be happy." Tears rolled down her cheeks and she shook her head. "No, that is not it your majesty. I am sorry I doubted you I was just scared and frightened that I would not hold your attention for long but now I am convinced you really do love me and I love you too. From the first time I met you." Emperor Anez smiled. "Really? You have just made my day. Will you please be my empress? Let's rule this beautiful and great empire together." She smiled and curtsied. "As your majesty pleases." He kissed her forehead. "We will grow old together and leave together I promise you that." He sighed contentedly and closed his eyes, his joy was complete, he had found his soulmate. She smiled and looked at him for the umpteenth time. Her emperor was finally hers, she let her imagination wander to the future that was yet to come. The priestess welcomed Emperor Anez and offered him a seat. "To what do we owe this visit your majesty?" He smiled. "I have only come for a brief visit I will soon be on my way." The priestess smiled. "It is good to see you smile more these days your majesty. please state your business " He brought out the mud bowl he had kept in a box and carefully pushed it to her "I have thought of no better person to safely keep this bowl than you please keep it well. But may I ask, the power of this mud bowl what can it do?" The priestess nodded. "That is a good question. Prince Daleh entered and stood beside him. "Our parents and the past emperors of Philnia are proud of you brother, you did well." Emperor Anez turned to look at his brother and nodded. "It wouldn't have been possible without you brother. You helped me gt rid of Queen Lystil and her minions and your were there with me all through, I am grateful Daleh." Prince Daleh grunted. "Don't get so emotional with me now. If you are really grateful then you will bless my courtship with Eve." Emperor Anez bursted into laughter. "Don't worry brother it is already blessed. I have to go now my empress is waiting for me." He patted his brother and began to head to his hall. He looked around and smiled at again, he knew it was beginning to get too much but he couldn't help himself, all he could see was a great future ahead of him, a great future for Philnia and his people. He enters his chambers and saw us empress sleeping soundly. He nodded, yes, a great future it is. THE END
