I inhaled - "it all started..."

About the Story:
It talks about youthful lust, and blindness of vengeance. And betrayals, expressed by a trusted friend.

Episode 1

It was first day of raining June when I received an e-mail containing an appointment letter to work as a bank staff, it was a great surprise to me. I re-read it several times not believing what my eyes are seeing, the interview was a difficult one but at the end, I emerge victorious.

At the age of 23, I am done with my B.sce and served my country and finally had a job. What an achievement.

Preparations began as someone who has been posted to work in a bank located in a rural area, a friend of mine that we met in Facebook a year ago who is working in the branch took it upon himself to see to my accommodation, since we will soon be colleagues. I informed him of the new development and he took interest in where I'll stay.

What more should I ask for? never knew am playing a character in a drama that won't end well.

"Are you moving over today?" It has been a week and David never for once cool-off his pressure on me to move into the apartment he rented on my behalf.

"I'll move in tomorrow" already bored with the conversation, but he never seems to slow his insistence. Finally, I moved into the self-contain apartment, with lots of primary essentials needed for my comfort.

Life as a cashier in the Bank was never an easy one, waking up very early and returning late in the night. My daily routine activities do not permit me to know my neighbors by their names.

But I never fail to notice naive young men lurking around my street, in hunt of a girl that lives in my yard which I am yet to even see. When I was still growing up, I was once unable to talk to girls I liked 'cause I was scared. I'll leave home everyday pretending to be taking that route to somewhere which I know where I just passed is my destination, I'll hide around the corner and watch the girl until I get tired and then leave.

"Have you seen Sandra?" David quizzed on one of our weekend hang-outs which have been our routine every weekend. David and I became best of friends quickly since we have common likes 'women' and 'bottles', I only engage in one night-stand and pay off with mutual understanding, unlike David who seeks for everything wearing panties.

"No, who be this Sandra sef?" I asked irritated.

David let out a dry laugh, one of his annoying gesture.

"The girl that will turn your head" I couldn't help but laugh at his words, I have Kate already. And no one can replace her in my life, not even the most beautiful girl in the world can mess with my head to betray Kate. Kate and I, already planned our wedding which will be after her NYSC service, we met at the University and fell in love with each other and since then we became new generation Romeo and Juliet.

That was my thoughts and beliefs, never knew men are prone to flaws.

But I was curious to see whom everyone is talking about, even David.

I played into the hands of fate when I forgot an important file at home which is required at work on a work day.

"Good morning" someone greeted, notwithstanding I wasn't really interested in the person who greeted 'cause I was in a hurry to fetch the file. And the voice was greeting from a distance which I responded sharply, heading to my apartment half-walking and half-running.

Gracious Creator, my legs failed to move. Never for once believed such beauty existed, I couldn't help but stare foolishly at the young girl on her school uniform before me. Graced with moving lips and beauty that surpassed everything that nature have ever shown me thus far.

"Uhmm.. wha..t are you saying" I snapped out of my admiration, she smile shyly that mesmerized my head that my mouth was loose to uttering stupid and unnecessary things.

"You are beautiful" I said it without intending to, what an act of foolishness. She appreciated with additional smile, that I felt we are just alone in the world. And every other thing doesn't exist. How can someone be this beautiful?

"What's your name?"

Another act of foolishness showcased unwittingly by me, she played with her beautiful fingers shyly. My heart screamed and leaped in joy of love.

"It starts with S, guess" she said for the first time.

"Smal. . . Small .. Smally"
I stuttered, not believing myself.

She frowned sweetly, why is she blessed with so much Good.

"Smally 'cause you are a small girl and in Secondary School" I said scratching my head like a Secondary School boy, who is trying to woo a girl for the first time.

"Sandra - !!!"

The voice calling out from the flat close to mine stopped her from completing her sentence.

"Mom, am coming"

She hurried into the flat and her ass shake involuntarily.

I stumbled on stones and nearly came in contact with the pole at the entrance of the compound, all because of looking back at the beauty that stole my heart.

Professionally, I have not accepted to undertake such task. As the weeks proceeds, I conceal myself from Smally. Love why are you no respecter of age, in my hiding I ran into Smally. Has my life became hide and seek in a matters of days? "Handsome banker neighbor!" A voice from behind me sang out joyfully, I turned and behold Smally in her Valentine out-fit. Her curves stretch the gown expertly fitting her shape, so well that the design was meant for just her and her alone. Why cheat nature? The little one on red that melts my heart to madness, I unconsciously dropped what I went to buy on the ground. I wouldn't have graced such phenomenal if I didn't lack foodstuffs in my apartment. "No, am inviting you to a programme in my church tomorrow evening" I'd have said capital 'No', since I started my undergraduate days, I stopped going to Church until this time. The idea of going to Church scares me without a reason. "Yes" I accepted, I closed my eyes and meditate, Why had so much charms on me little queen of beauty? "Hahaha" "Sandy handbag" The invitation and acceptance amused David to the bone, I related the encounter to him when we are out drinking that night. And Victor, he was just a perfect character to orchestrate your misery that you played in" David laughed insanely. "So all these while, David! You are a devil!!" Sandra screamed at him with all her strength. "Am a devil, the one that will send you to the slums and then to the grave to join my grandmother, oh--shit, is raining" David curse under his breathe as the heavy downpour persist, he went inside leaving Sandra under the rain. "Oh God" Sandra cried out, she took a handful of sand. "As this rain wash away this sand so as your riches, fame, happiness, joy, success will be washed away. A car drove into an abandoned hut in a remote village, Kate and Obinna. Her secret lover, step down from the car, went around the house calling after the medicine's man's name but no response. Kate wave to a passer-by. "Where is this old Baba?" The young boy was surprised to find them in the wicked man's compound. "He is dead, and he died a shameful death. Are you not his relatives?" Episode 7B I couldn't believe my eyes, I was dumbfounded at the sight of the beauty before me. I learnt of the company a day ago, I visited it. To find her heading to the company's parking lot, surrounded by bodyguards. "Smally, Smally!" I called out with very loud voice, she turned round. I realize I have met my lost Smally once again, the beauty that stole my heart. I ran towards her, To embrace her. "Securities, don't let that man come close to me" she said and went into her car, the huge bodyguards struggle to get hold of me from approaching the car. "Let me go" I threatened them, but they where unperturbed by my demonstrations. She drove off before I was set free, I left the company unhappy man. Is it how worse I am, that she doesn't want to even see me. I felt so sad, and empty. I was determined to end my life, what is life without Smally? I went to my lawyer and willed all my properties to her and my unseen child if they are still alive, which I pray he/she should be alive. I bought apples, and the visited a pharmacy for the Apples to be poisoned. "Sir, why do you want to poison the Apples?"the pharmacist asked suspiciously. "Oh, is for my dog who has gone wild" Nigerians don't really take special interest on animals. He took the Apple and went inside. "Can this end Human being's life?" When he returned the Apples, his eyes narrow in suspicion. "Yes, ofcourse" "Thank you, I have to guide it with caution" I said smiling, and left the pharmacy. I drove home to end it all. I arrived home to find the house empty, I wrote a suicide note and drop it in the bedroom. I went to the sitting room to end it all with the poisoned apples. A sudden remembrance of church were Smally has taken me to years ago. I left the poisoned apples on the sitting room table, and drove out of the compound. Headed to the church premises. I saw two kids playing in the compound of the church, I almost hit them with my car, if i wasn't careful. They both look alike, a girl and a boy. They are probably twin, I approach them and bend down to their height. "Good afternoon, sir" they both chorused. "Where are your parents?" I asked concerned, they were silent. "Let's go out and buy something for both of you" "We can't follow you, because we don't know you sir." They protested. "Am harmless, I just love kids. We will just go out there, and I'll buy you kids what to play with" they look at each other, eventually. they followed me outside the gate of the church, I bought edible things for both of them. We went into the church.. "What are your names?" I asked both of them, they made me forgot about my mission in the church. "Am Precious, and he is Prince. Uncle" the feminine twin said. "Where are your parents, uncle?" Prince asked looking around, I smile wearily. They both stood up from were they were sitted, and grab my both hands to kids park in the church. "Prince, Precious. Last Episode I was surprised to turn back and find Smally, as the one that was calling-out to the kids. Her face look so dull, and emotional, portraying evidence that she has been crying. I swallowed hard. "Do you follow me down here?" She demanded with urgency and sharp voice. "No, I was about to say my final goodbye to Earth before I remembered this place. One of my fund memories of you, Smally . . . What is life without you" I poured out my emotions, her face soften. "You are so selfish, you want to leave me and your children all alone?" I froze in surprise, she was carried away by emotions and she ran into my arms embracing me warmly. "Mommy, why are you hugging big uncle?" I chuckled uneasily, Precious asked dragging the helm of the short gown of her mother. We disengaged, she bent low. "Is your dad, baby" she kiss her forehead, I smile wearily. To brace myself of the children. They ran into my arms happily, I was driven crazy by happiness that I started crying. "What took you so long daddy?" Prince in my arms asked, I felt alive and a responsible someone. Am a father, I screamed in my mind. "Prince and Precious, go and play over there. Let me talk to your daddy" the kids screamed happily and ran into the kid's park, Smally look at me fiercely. I was about to apologize when she covered my lips with kiss. Confession "Wow, why did she forgive you easily without much ado?" I shrugged at Pastor Benjamin's question. "I never bothered to ask her, I was too carried away by the moment. And she shows the sign that she has missed me so much" I smiled happily. "How was she able to achieve her dreams?" Pastor Benjamin asked, fascinated by the sudden change of Smally's fortune. "Her older brother who was declared missing a year ago then, return all of a sudden. He was very wealthy, that he took care of her baby and trained her in higher institution" I smiled happily, Pastor Benjamin nodded in appreciation. "What happened afterwards, did you go with them?" He asked all of a sudden, my mood changed. I felt like crying. "No, I went back to my house to get some of my important files and I met my...." Last Episode B My house was so quiet when I arrived, I called out to my gateman but there was no response. I walk into the sitting room and find everywhere quiet. I started having a strange feelings when I switch on the lights in the sitting room, the Apples where still un-touched and un-moved. Before, I could step forward, I felt a sharp pain in my arm. "Aaahh" I groaned in pains, I was sprawl on the floor battling with my shot arm when I saw Kate and a stranger walking towards me. They kissed before me, my eyes widened in shock. I remained silent to avoid more deadly retaliation. "Baby, can you end this fool?" Me fool, I was so moved with anger that i sprang up from the floor. What Kate said was so mean. "Aaaah" I lost consciousness as the bullet pierced into my forehead. Author's Side of The Story . . . Victor was already sprawl on the floor, on his pool of blood. Kate and Obinna kissed romantically to their victory. Obinna brought out a bottle of wine, and opened it. He went into the bar, and took two glass from it. He poured the drinks, then gave Kate a glass. "Baby, am pressed" he hurried into the bathroom to pee, Kate sip from the glass twice when Obinna left. ______ Obinna entered the bathroom brought out his phone, and dialed a number. The phone ring and the receiver picked. "Hello sweetie, it is done!" He screamed happily, punching the air. He ended the call and waited for ten minutes before he exit the bathroom. _____ Kate suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach, the glass dropped from her hand and crashed into pieces. "Aaah" Kate screamed, calling out to Obinna as blood drip from her mouth. She try moving but couldn't, she slum on the floor and died. ______ Obinna appeared from the bathroom smiling happily. "Headline, wife shot husband and poisoned herself" he laugh wickedly, took the file on the table with the Apple on the table and dropped the gun beside the corpse of Kate, he left afterwards. He took a bite from the apple, another bite. Again and again as he walk towards his car, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach that halt his movement. The file dropped from his hand and the apple too. He was on the floor crawling towards his car, vomiting blood, He died while struggling to enter his car. Epilogue "Is it the end of your story?" Pastor Benjamin asked surprised, I nodded.
