Costa gets Chelsea off the mark
15 August 2016, 23:23
Diego Costa thrust himself back into the
headlines with an 89th-minute winner as Chelsea
edged West Ham United 2-1 in Antonio Conte's
first Premier League game as manager on
Monday.
Eden Hazard, symbol of Chelsea's slump from
champions to a 10th-place finish last season,
opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge with a
penalty early in the second half, before James
Collins equalised in the 77th minute.

Conte's 'philosophy' already working
16 August 2016, 00:54
There was no pre-match fanfare to present
Antonio Conte to the Stamford Bridge crowd
before his debut as Chelsea manager, but
Monday's 2-1 Premier League win over West
Ham United sent a clear message that the team
are already marching to his orders.
Conte's side dominated their London rivals with the kind of drive that made his name as a player
and as a coach in Italy, energy that was so
lacking at Chelsea last season when the 2015
champions failed miserably to defend their title.

Toure will stay and fight for City place
15 August 2016, 17:51
Yaya Toure's agent says the Manchester City
midfielder plans to stay and fight for his place
despite being left out of their first game of the
season.
The Ivorian, who played under new manager Pep
Guardiola when the pair were at Barcelona, was
omitted for Saturday's narrow 2-1 win over
Sunderland in City's Premier League opener.

Bournemouth sign Wilson from Stoke
15 August 2016, 19:42
Bounemouth have signed Ireland utility player
Marc Wilson from fellow Premier League team
Stoke City on a two-year deal, the south-coast
club said on Monday.
The 28-year-old, who can play in defence or
midfield, spent two loan spells at Bournemouth in
2007 when they were in the third tier and has
signed for an undisclosed fee.

and now to Olympic
Rudisha retains 800m title
16 August 2016, 04:00
Kenya's David Rudisha obliterated his rivals in
the 800 metres final on Monday to become the
first man since 1964 to retain his Olympic title
over the distance.
Rudisha, the world champion and world record
holder, stormed to victory with a devastating
final-lap sprint that cemented his place among
the greats such as New Zealand's Peter Snell,
the last man to successfully defend an 800m
Olympic gold.

16 August 2016, 05:02
Brazilian Thiago Da Silva won the Olympic pole
vault gold medal in dramatic fashion on Monday
to give the host country its first athletics gold
medal of the Games.
World record-holder Renaud Lavillenie of France
took the silver medal.
After three early failures, Da Silva passed on an
attempt at 5.98 metres and pushed Lavillenie two 6.03, which the Frenchman failed twice before
the Brazilian set an Olympic record by clearing
that height.

Spain beat Argentina to end Brazil medal

16 August 2016, 03:07
Brazilians swallowed their sporting pride and
cheered for Argentina on Monday but were left
with a bad taste when their bitter rivals lost
