Suddenly everyone grew up on Disney's The Lion King. Everyone seems to have all the scenes and characters at their fingertips.
Right now, if I have to listen to one more 'agbaya' come out to polish up their childhood memories with the Lion king story, I just might lose my mind.
Since every known and unknown celebrity in Nigeria, including you giddying about on the bandwagon of sensationalism and won't stop being ridiculous.
Because this isn't the far-famed Cinderella that has gone from being just a film to being widely used as an adjective, this is The Lion King.
You really must be a cartoomania to know the Lion story through and through, as it takes a more serious, lengthier and complex plot.
So just listen to lots of Nigerians yapping about Simba like they've known the whole bit since 1856. Yeye dey smell.
.
While I'm not questioning anybody's cartoon-TV background, but hello... Hello now... if you're on the other side of 25 and raised in Nigeria, raise up your hand. Keep it high up so that I can see your faces and shifty eyes.
Now confess to the fact that you have very sketchy details of the film in your adulthood. It's okay to also add that you're lost on the whole Lion King conversation but there's a trend you must join.
Good.
You see, that was quite easy to admit.
.
No, your childhood was not built on Simba and Nala life lessons nor did the cartoon's storyline inspire your being. Stop forming Nigerian celebrities in your interviews, it irks. Phew! You people should just loudly share your cinematic experience on Instagram, styled to the teeth as usual than front to us.
You know very little about all that the film originally encompasses till now.
Not when there was rarely ever power supply at home to finish up the complete series those days. And even if you were blessed with constant electricity where you grew up, our cartoons were typically shown in snippets and cut-and-join episodes on NTA and the rest - just before they call it a day on your cartoon hours - like these stations were doing us a favour showing it at all.
And where was the time to sit through a cartoon that long, a few minutes shy of 2 hours - when you had a pile of chores and school homework to die in?
Actually, the only people who get the animated film's message because they watched it unhindered, are the DVD era generation. Oldies hold your peace.
.
At this point it's okay to tag me the killjoy of the year. It'll be very flattering.
Errm... as a matter of fact our childhood was created on Karashika, Witches, Evil Passion, Sakobi, 1/3 Pound road Aba... Things of that nature.
