The Bodyguard – Episode 1 By Tisa Phiri I looked around just to make sure no one was watching me, the tall trees and green grass did me favour. It matched so well with my green patched combat. Slowly patting the way through the tall grass ensuring that I created little noise. Moving quickly on my stomach with my hands supporting me, I made my way through the tall grass and I sighed as I reached the thick bushes. Spotting a big tree a few meters away, I rushed and climbed up swiftly. As soon as I settled up in the branches I saw other soldiers, my persuers running my direction. one of them shouting “Let’s go he went this direction!” “Yes sir!” the others answered. I looked straight on top his head as he stood direct under me, smiled to myself, “I got you b******!” i screamed in my head. If only he was chasing me alone without 30 other soldiers I could have shot him, blowing his brains out. But I had to take it easy if i was to escape from the hell I lived through the past 5 years of my life. My name is Akim, I was born in Zambia, 28 years ago. I am the 4th born in a family of 5, born from a Soldier and a humble house wife. My father was a gallant soldier but due to his misbehavior he never got promoted passed the rank of a sergeant. When I was 20 years old my father sent me to go and train as a soldier in Ndola Mushili Barakas. __ In the second year of our training as a commando, our camp was attacked by the rogue soldiers from Congo who took 20 of us in captive and held us in the deep forests of Congo. News went by in Zambia that we were all killed in the line of duty. General Loko, who was in charge of the rebels had for the first three months subjected us to torture until all our energy to fight back eluded. All of us lost hope of ever returning to our country besides, when we were driven in the back of the trucks the day we were captivated our heads were covered in dark clothes hence we could not even identify clearly the direction of our country. Within the first year of slavery in the hands of the rebels who made us do all kinds of dirty things for them . Including kill people in the villages as a way of fighting back at their government. out of the 20 captivated from Zambia, 5 died of malaria. luckily I survived and lived on. With each passing day I lost my sense of humanity and lived by orders like an animal. One day however, I woke up with a new vibe and dream of escaping. I told my friend who refused profoundly.. “I’m scared” he told me, “What if they catch us, you know they will kill us without hesitation” “Well” I told him.. “Unlike you I better die trying because staying here is the same as being dead” So I went on planning my escape for 2 years. I managed to mark a few tress we had passed through from the city. I however planned to escape to the border from there I would probably find my way to Zambia. So here I am being pursued by general Loko and other soldiers. I had hidden a gun in the bushes and packed some water bottled in my bag. I also stole some tinned foods and hidden them. I had escaped in the night as everyone was asleep killing the guy who was on guard. But the dark night made it so difficulty for me to move fast. I was lost and went in circles the whole night before it was dawn, one of the rebels saw me by the river and he shouted.. “There he is..!” When I heard the shout I was taken by surprise but I manged to ran and hide as they chased after me. I looked at the general as he paced around under the tree I was hiding in. my own breath felt like I was making so much noise to be heard down there. I looked at him as he walked away following the others who went different directions searching for me. I knew being caught would be the end of me. Praying to survive this hell and make it to my country even if i had no idea where I was going. I waited for 2 hours more before I climbed down and started running as fast as my feet could take me, the heavy boots on my feet being the only sound I heard as they hit the ground. After going for almost 20 kilometres i came to a small stream flowing in the east direction. My inner instincts told me to follow it as there is always some people living near where water was. It was almost getting dark when i first came into contact with a human being. I hid behind the bark of the tree as I heard male voices coming my direction. Passing were two farmers carrying their hoes, “coming from the fields I guess.” I sat down to rest after taking the bottle of water from the bag and drinking it rapidly, putting my head on the bark of the tree and fall asleep. I needed to rest before proceeding. THE BODYGUARD-Prologue The light is shone on the president and his frnd inside a large guest house, they both went to d swimming pool wit d president bodyguides following closely behind,wen they reached d swimming pool area, the two frndz pull of their cloth, remaining only on boxer and singlet, they both jumped into d pool,while d bodyguards sorrounded d pool luking left and right,still keeping their eye on d two frndz,catching fun. Suddenly, the sound of gun shot changed d atmosphere, some of d bodyguards jumped into d pool, nd pulled d president out, covering im wit a blanket..

EPISODE 2 The battle continues between d president guard nd d intruders, trying to kidnap the president, there were death from both sides. I jst came out frm no where, hit d person beside d president wit my fist, the second charge at me wit all is might, bt am 2 fast, i step sideway, letting im crash into d wall,is head collide wit d wall nd fall down wit a thug. I got a hold of d president nd pointed a gun on is forehead,ushering im to move 4ward, e quickly obey,shivering, i continue pushing im, while shooting at any obstacle i come across, i got im into my waiting car nd drives out....who am i?, assassin or what?.....i nid ur comment..

EPISODE 3 Thinking am an assassin is nt true,what am i den?, i tink am sumtin else, my mission is to rescue d president. In a large hall consisting of all d special duties in d nigeria army force, the special duties r d defendant, their mission is to lay their life for d safety of the civilians, the secretary general is lecturing us i.e we d defendant, abt a denfendant mission using d resent incident as a topic, he used is finger 2 slide d screen to d next picture, where i pointed a gun on the president forehead, he asked d rest what happen there, bt they were not able 2 say a tin, he den trow d question bak to me, kelvin explain to dem, standing up, i said, to get d enemies u act like d enemy, they will tink u r wit dem..

I went inside d general's office, i saw a man in is 50s or above, i got in nd salute d general. GENERALl: kelvin,i have a mission for u, dis chief popoola, nd e nids ur help on his girlfrnd, who is been pursued by d most powerful nd notorious assassin, bt dnt worry, he is goin to pay, in as much as is girl is been protected. ME: bt sir, there is still a mission on ground for me, cnt u send one of d defendant GENERAL: hmmmmm, is true, bt u goin to take dis up, m going to send d others for d formal mission, cos only u can do dis, u no u r d best among others, dats y m refering dis mission to u.. CHIEF: (who has been watchin since) plz, d man is goin 2 kill ha, he has been claiming her life since, bt she barely make it. ME: bt who is dis assassin? (bt d general cut me) GENERAL: dnt worry chief u cn go, m going to work on it. CHIEF: ok, bt b fast abt it.. After d chief left, i nd d general engage in a conversation, he bought out is laptop out, showing me some pic. He swap to d picture of d great assassin ME: what! U mean its felix (i exclaim at d site of d pics), d nigeria most notorious assassin, who kill pple like fowl, even d government r afraid of im. GENERAL: yes kelvin, bt i believe GOD believe in u, remeber, u r trained as a defendant, he is trained as an assassin, and am sure u r up to d task. ME: hmmmm, av been waiting for dis, and dis my chance to put an end to is wrong doings, no prob, bring it on (d general swap to anoda pics of a lady in ha 20s, so beautiful wit a round shape). GENERAL: dis janet,d chiefs galfrnd, she is a graduate frm havard university, d story was dat a guy proposed to ha, she turned im down, bt d guy refuse nd tried to kiss ha, which earned im slap frm janet,nt knwing e is one of felix guy, d oda guy came out nd tried to assault ha, she ran, bt d guys run after ha nt knwing dat a car was cuming at high speed,before realising he died at ones as he was been hitted, we later got to knw dat d guy is felix younger broda, since den, he has been claiming for ha life. ME: (i listen carefully as he naratted d story) dat serve im right,wen shuld i start 4 d preparation (luking determine,no mata what it takes, i will risk my life for hers,cos she is so beautiful to die). GENERAL: (smilling) one tin is dat d chief is travelling out, so u start living wit dem. ME: no problem sir..

As soon as i got inside, i met 3 young guys like me, nd a fat man whom i later knwn as biggie, cos of his big status, i tink he is d oldest of d group, they r d guards in d ous.. Biggie came nearer 2 me asking me question lyk 'who are you', i only bring out my id card nd show im, he looked at it and said BIGGIE: so, u r d one cuming, dats gud bt listen carefully, am d chiefguard here, u do everytin i say, or else i deal wit u. EPISODE 5 After surveying d compound the next mawing, luking 4 a suitable place to fix the cctv camera, i fix one at d main gate, the car park, outside d main gate, and almost every part of d ous.. I got to ha rum to fix d last one, i got in without knocking, i met ha only on ha long nite gown, she stare at me asking me JANET: aw could u enter a female room without knocking, what if am naked (she said angrily). I didn't anwer, bt continue fixing d camera on wall of ha room, she started shouting dat aw could i fix a camera in ha rum, i didn't answer, i move closer to d window to check d burglary, before i could turn bak, she had already smash d frying pan wit ha on d cctv, which shattered into pieces, i only luk at ha and drop a small alarming device on d bed. ME: if u r in nid of my help, make sure u press d button (i open d door nd got out wondering d typ of human she is, nt my concern, am to keep my eye on ha). Immediately i got out, i met biggie nd his group inside d palour, taking nd fighting over a bottle of alcohol, i told dem to take it away, dey only laugh at me, bt i move closer, pick it and trow it out, bfor i knw, i saw a saw a fist cuming straight to ma face, i got hold of d hand, den i quickly trow im at d others 3, (it was biggie dat wants to hit me). D four of dem attacked me, i give 1 a punch on is belly, d second tried to kick me, bt i bakflip, he came nearer again, i jumped forward nd gave im a scissors kick, he crashed on d third one, den biggies came forward pointing is small pistol at me, i only laughed nd showed im d bullet, he was surprised at aw i got d bullet. Just den janet came out wit ha younger brother, a boy of 10 to 11 years of age, d boy started shouting, wow!, u r awesome, aw do u do those skills, janet looked at me wit hatred in ha eyes. JANET: what d hell is wrong wit u guys, especially u dis stubborn brat (pointing at me, she hissed and got out) While ha brother keeps on trowing question at me like, can u teach me dis, teach me dat. I forgot 2 tell u, she had a brother, his name is philip, a very stubborn nd a disturbing type, there r a lot of tinz on im, in dis story..

EPISODE 6 After sometimes, i was able 2 cope wit d activities of the house, me, biggie nd is group later became frndz, no more fight, we talked nd joked 2geda, those guys were really funny, i was comfortable wit d latest developement, bt dat doesn's change janet behaviour towards me, i followed ha everywhere, bt still barned ha frm going 2 some places, she complains alot, she even try to sneak out without my consent, bt i do caught ha wit d help of my small screen device which is connected to d cctv. Dnt forget abt d alarm device i gave ha also, which i ask ha to press jst in case of incasity. Bt sumtin later happened. Around 10pm in d nite, i inspected everytin in d ous, making sure dat everytin is intact, i got to janet room nd replaced all ha make up, tissue nd so on wit d new ones i bought in d market 2day because i dnt allow ha 2 go out all by herself,cos felix men r still roaming abt d street, nd felix will b determined 2 aveng is brother's death, cos he is a pro at is work, a silent killer, i no he could show up frm any angle, bt m always prepared for im, i handle everytin wit caution, av vowed 2 my sef dat, no mata wot it takes, even wit d treatment been given 2 me by janet, i would still make sure dat ntin happens to ha, i scan ha room, i checked d window, nd re-arrange ha bed, she was jst staring at me wit anger in ha eye, as i was abt to go out, she grabbed d bedsheet and angrily trow it on d fall, she den slept on d bare floor, dis nt ha first tym of doing dat, i ignored ha, nd went to lie down in the parlour, i was been woken up d next morning by d alarm i gave d remote to janet, i knew she is in danger. I quickly sprang up lyk krish, ran up d staircase, bt what i saw is.........

I sat down in d big parlour, watching one of van damme film, janet came out luking heavily endowed on a legis nd a pink top, jst a light make, my heart leaped on siting ha, aw cn God endowed a gal as hard nd stubborn like dis, bt i tink she is going out, bt i cnt allow ha, its late already, i checked my wrist watch nd c dat its already 11pm. JANET: m going out, nd am nt sure if i will b able to come bak till 2morrow. ME: what! Cnt u c it is late, it too dangerous 4 u. JANET: whats nw ur concern, besides, m going wit biggie.
