Paypal has finally come to Nigeria and its very important users of this payment
service to put security of their account first before any other
thing. Knowing that our Paypal account are directly linked to our bank accounts and credit card, caution ought not to be thrown to the wind.
As a newbie country in this payment system, i have taken
time to list out some preventive measures and awareness on
how you can secure your paypal account from fraudsters and
hackers lurking around waiting to steal your hard earned money.
.
1. Log in safely: To log in to your PayPal account or access the
PayPal website, open a new web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer
or Firefox or Chrome) and type in the following: https://www.paypal.com/ OR https://www.paypal.com/ng any other
website different from this is a phishing site and you should be
careful.
2. Look out for attachments: PayPal emails will never ask you to download an attachment or a
software program. An
attachment found in a PayPal scam email will often contain a
virus that can harm your computer or compromise your
PayPal account. Watch what you download on your computer.
3. Change your password regularly. Do this to prevent
people you know from having access to your account. In some
instance, some friends might come to you to help purchase some stuffs online, thereby
sitting close to you while you are logging in your paypal account.
Some of them are fast in cramming your password. So do this to help prevent this.
4. Paypal will never send you an email with a link to open so you can enter your Login details, credit card details and bank
informations. Be weary of such emails being sent to your inbox.
Also, take note of the email address they can coming from.
You might even find some funny emails like "
[email protected]"
etc.
5. No Seller or Buyer will ask you to send them your Paypal Login information before they can
make payment or receive payment from you. For Paypal
payment to be made, all you need is their paypal email address or open the paypal pay now link on
ther website if its a trusted merchant.
