Episode 1 contd. "Ouch" Mabeline cried out. "Easy Emerald it hurts. "Am sorry mother, just a bit more." Mabeline consoled her. "Mother, we are home." Jokai entered with Jofin and Edama. He took one look at his mother and bursted into a fit of rage. "Where is he? Where is the mad man who wants to kill my mother?" Mabeline rose up to calm her son. "Jokai, he is your father please just leave this to me." He protested. "No way mother, he is a bastard." She bursted into tears. "I don't like seeing you hurt mother." Edama chipped in, she continued pacing the kitchen grounds angrily while crying and ranting about their father to the village head. Jofin the third child and the second son of the family who has been watching silently since they all entered finally spoke up. "If you won't listen mother, we won't complain but the day he sends you to the hospital is the day his family members will bury him." And with that he stormed off.

Episode 2 The people of Arata village are known to be unified and defensive, which meant they took care of their own. But the situation in Adong Janda house is more than what they could handle. They all loved Mabeline and her children as they were all good kids but Adong was widely known as a thug, none of them wanted to risk their life to intervene again in the abuse of his wife and children. So, when he decided to send them out of his house few months later, none was ready to receive Mabeline and her children. "Out, I say get out." Adong dragged Mabeline. "Please my husband forgive me, we have nowhere to go." Mabeline pleaded earnestly. Adong slapped her face. "I don't care whore." He dragged their bags and luggage out in the rain. "My beautiful wife will be here tomorrow and I don't want her to meet you here." Devastated Mabeline and her children carried the thrown out bags and left for no where in particular. *************************

Episode 2 contd. Mabeline moved her children to the worst part of the village, there was no money for them to get a better place and her children had to stop schooling because of non payment of school fees. Things were bad and getting worse by the day, they only ate once a day, they ate the left overs of other people in the village or the food that were meant for the animals, their suffering was like no other. It had been a year since Adong sent them out in the rain, Mabeline had gone to appeal to him so many times but he wouldn't listen. Edama her last child was on the sick bed but there was no money to treat her. One morning disaster struck. "Emerald am back." Mabeline entered looking tired. "Welcome mother" Emerald shifted so she could sit. "How is Edama?" Mabeline asked as she touched Edama's body. "Mother, her temperature is rising by the minute." Mabeline started to cry. "My baby, no one wants to treat her without payment first, ah! Olorun o(God) where is your face?" She carried the little girl in her hands. To be continued.

"Edama open your eyes and acknowledge your mother." Emerald and Mabeline began to shake her. "Edama, Edama." By now they were both shouting and crying. Jokai and Jofin ran inside. "What is wrong with her?" "Somebody help! Help!" Jofin ran outside to call the neighbours. "Help! Help!" People ran to their house. A man popularly called 'Dokita'(Doctor) in the villagechecked Edama. He straightened after a few minutes and began. "Hem! God taketh and giveth. Mama Emmy, am sorry but little Edama is gone." Mabeline shouted in despair. "Haaaaaaaa! My enemies have succeeded, they have won" She fainted and was later revived by the people who came to mourn with her. She mourned her daughter bitterly while people came to console her. ************************* The death of Edama struck Mabeline and her children fiercely but after two years of mourning her, they let go. They accepted their fate. Little did they know that their ordeal had just started. "Jokai, Jokai, come out here." Mabeline called from the backyard. "Yes, mama you called." Mabeline nodded affirmatively. "Yes, Jofin is not yet back from school?" He shook his head in response. "No mother but he will soon be here." She smiled. "Good. I want you to take this...." She gave him some money. ".............Go to the market, buy cassava, heavy one o so that we may eat."

"But mama..." Jokai protested. ".....We have been eating that for the past one month." Mabeline sighed heavily and faced her son. "Jokai, a time is coming when we will eat better." Jokai sat beside her and spoke in remorse. "Forgive me mother, I will do as you have said." A few hours later and Jokai was still not back. "Where is this boy now eh?" Jofin and Emerald rushed in. "Mother, mother where are you?" Mabeline came out of her room. "What is it?" Emerald pointed toward the front door. "Jokai, Jokai is rolling on the ground outside, holding his abdomen and vomitting blood." Mabeline gasped and rushed outside. "Ehn? Omo mi(my son). Yee." She rushed outside to see him. "Jokai, Jokai."

"On seeing him, he was already dead. They all cried bitterly. Mabeline shouted and lamented. "Olorun, oju e daa (God where is thy face?) People came and mourned with her, others came to mock her while others offered their condolences. "E maa ba ara je juu.(Don't be so saddened) Despite hearing about all that happened Adong never cared to visit his wife or help his family, he remained adamant still. After the death of her second child Mabeline never recovered, she became a living ghost.

Episode 3 Six months after Jokai's death, Mabeline was very sick, she was a shadow of her former radiant self. One day she called the remaining two children she had. "Jofin, Emerald" They both rushed in at their mother's call. "Hmmmm, my precious, I love you both so much.........." She coughed heavily. "...........But I sense my end is very near. Emerald!" Emerald shifted to sit beside her. "Yes mama." She coughed again. "Take your brother and leave this village, go to the city and further your education." "But mama" Jofin said admist tears. "....We can't just leave you here" He was holding her hands firmly as if he could not afford to let them go.

"This is my last wish please obey it. Open my trinket box and take the money there, use it for your education when you get there. But remember Emerald, keep your honour and dignity, never let any man in between your legs unless he is your husband, remain pure. Jofin! Please do not follow any bad gangs, be a good boy......." She gasps for air. "M-m-make me-me-p-pr-proud." After this, Mabeline gave up the ghost. Emerald and Jofin left for Vast City after their mother's burial, but this was just the beginning for Emerald as she took on the role of a mother for her brother Jofin.

Episode 3 contd. Vast City is a sophisticated city. If you are not smart then your life might be destroyed in Vast City. On getting there, Emerald immediately enrolled Jofin in a government boarding school, where luckily he was awarded a scholarship in his second junior year. The money cannot sustain Emerald's education therefore she opted for a job as a maid in the household of Mr and Mrs Vannak while she attended lessons and tutorials. The Vannaks were from another tribe called "Korsian" in a country called Skornia, so they were quite pleased to let Emerald to be their maid so she could translate sometimes what they don't understand of 'Yorsian' which was the national language of Emerald's country apart from English. "The food is served sir and madam." Emerald came out from the kitchen and informed them. "Komawo Emerald."(Thank you Emerald.) Mrs Vannak replied. "I am sure today's meal will be as sweet and deliciious as the previous meals" Mr Vannak added with overly bright eyes filled with lust for Emerald which unfortunately Mrs Vannak didn't notice. This was the beginning of Emerald's troubles.

Evening guyz! Episode 4 Dale and Juwoh were the children of Mr and Mrs Vannak, they schooled in Skornia and only came to visit their parents during the holidays or school breaks. Dale and Juwoh were as bad as their father, they were his replica, they also could not take their eyes off the maid. Once they knew about each other's interests, they connived together to get what they wanted. "Honey, do you remember Mrs Kila?" Mrs Vannak asked her husband one evening. "The last neighbour we had in Skornia? What about her?" Mr Vannak asked without taking his eyes off the newspaper in his hands. "Well, her husband died and she has invited us to come for his burial." Mr Vannak put down the newspaper and replied. "You will have to go and represent the family, you know I can't go." He rose up tpo go and added. "Offer my heartfelt condolences." Mrs Vannak smiled. "Oh! I will." She was looking forward to spending ample time in Skornia. ************************* Mrs Vannak trip was a manna from Heaven for her husband and sons. They were able to execute their plans. "No, please leave me alone." Emerald pleaded earnestly while throwing things just to keep Mr Vannak and his sons at bay. She woke up just to see hands all over her body, she tried to run but she could only go as far as a corner of the room, the door was locked. "Don't worry darling, we just want a taste." She shook her head. "No please. Somebody help, please help me." She screamed on top of her lungs. Dale slapped her face hard. "Shut up bitch." She was held strongly by Dale and Juwoh. "Who goes first?" Juwoh asked slightly bemused. "Let father do the honours Juwoh." Dale replied his brother while trying not to let Emerald slip away. "Don't fret Emerald, it won't hurt so much. After this, Mr Vannak laughed and entered her in one long thrust. And so it continued till they were all spent hours later. They left satisfied while Emerald cried bitterly in shame and disgrace. ************************

It was finally here, the school holiday. Jofin was very happy that he would be able to see his sister again, with unreserved happiness, he went to the Vannak's villa to see his sister, his eyes were twinkling by the time he got to the villa's gate. "Knock, knock" He knocked excitedly. "Who dey there?" The gateman peeped out. When he saw Jofin, he started smiling. "Ha! Oyinbo master, how far? It is a while that we have seeing you, he don te." He said beaming with smiles while trying to impress Jofin with his undiluted and ungrammatical English. Jofin who by then was shaking with laughter replied. "Yes, Oga Johnbull, we have been busy in school so we had no time for breaks that is why. Anyway you look dazzling and more masculine now, you are very healthy than when I saw you last." The gateman looked really lost. "Dazoline, mascole? This your oyinbo, kai which one be that now?" Jofin laughed again. "Haba, Oga Johnbull I mean you look more handsome now, hmmm, fine fine. Anyway is my sister around?" The gateman laughed. "Ha! Your beautiful sister, she is. Go through the back door and you will see her." Jofin bowed. "Thank you Oga Johnbull." He then made to leave. The gateman drew him back. "Haha! What about me na? Infact no worry too much, just dash me dat your fine fine sister, you go enjoy me well, well. Jofin roaring with laughter said. "Okay I will get back to you, but my sister, that will be in your next life." Episode 5 "Sista mi"(My sister). Jofin dropped his bag to embrace Emerald as soon as he saw her. "Jofin, how are you? See how tall you've grown, you are a big boy now o." Emerald said amidst tears. "Am fine Emmy, I missed you so much." She replied. "I missed you too Jofin." They both laughed and embraced again but Jofin who knew his sister well enough knew she was unhappy. "Emmy, even before the tragedy that struck our family, you had always took care of us all, you are my second mother and I know when you are sad, please tell me what bothers you." Emerald sighed heavily. "Jofin please take this calmly since it is only you I can tell." She sighed again. "I was reped by Mr Vannak and his sons, my whole body was thoroughly abused, I was disgracefully deflowered Jofin." She was crying heavily as she spoke. "They beat me, kicked me, hit me and then raped me for hours, they ruined my life Jofin." Jofin was enraged. "What!" He roared in fury. "And you expect me to be quiet? They did tjis to my mother, my sister. Emmy I promise you, I will have these dogs castrated, I will make their deaths slow and painful." Emerald held and begged him. "Jofin please don't, at the end of this all, I will be the one disgraced. Jo ma se bayi fun mi.(Please don't do this to me.)" With tears streaming down his face, he held her, comforted her and promised to let the matter go. "From now on Emmy, I will protect you, no man will ever hurt you again, I promise." *************************

"Mora!(What)" Mrs Vannak shouted. "That filthy village whore." After a while, Mr Vannak and his sons afraid of Emerald telling on them, cooked up a story and told his wife in order for her to send Emerald out. On hearing this story, Mrs Vannak did as expected and sent Emerald packing. "You have to believe me ma, I never did that, it's late at night, please ma, I don't have anywhere to go please." Mrs Vannak slapped her hard. "Neo Bichaso? (Are you crazy?) Get out you whore." Emerald left and stayed in a shelter where she slept, the following morning in despair she wrote a letter to her brother, explaining all and promising to see him soon. After sending the letter, on her way back she collapsed and luckily she was sent to the hospitals by passers-by. "Young lady you are very lucky." These were the words of Doctor Manuel to Emerald. "What happened? How did I get here?" Doctor Manuel sighed and replied. "You fainted, people brought you here. You were bleeding internally when you were brought and from all evidences, it seems you've been hiding it." Emerald looked down. "It was because I have no money for hospital bills." She couldn't look at Doctor Manuel's face, she didn't want to tell the truth either so she continued to twist her fingers nervously. "See young lady, I know that you were raped, your injuries, bleeding and the tests revealed this. Please am a mother, I know how it feels, tell me what happened." Emerald's tears dam broke and she sobbed uncontrollably while narrating her story. "It is alright, you are not the first abused person I have counselled, where do you stay?" Emerald shook her head. "I don't have a home ma and no parents either, my younger brother is all I have. Doctor Manuel held her hands and said to her. "Emerald it is fine, I guessed as much, you can come stay with me for a while, I will inform your brother's school authorities to let him know where to find you." Emerald dropped to her knees and thanked Doctor Manuel profusely. "Ha! Thank you very much ma, may you never be stranded, God will bless you." Hmmmmm @Ele and @Besty, I am an upcoming linguist and all over the world I av my best languages which I am aspiring to learn after schl, Korean is one of the languages I like best in Asia buh if you check d ones you've read you will see there is Yoruba there... But I am a Nigerian, born, bred and fed here.

But these story has a Nigerian setting o, I initially wanted to use Igboland buh av not been there so I settled for Yoruba, but most of the names are made up.....I lyk naming my characters with names formed by me thatz y the setting may look foreign.

Episode 6 Doctor Manuel's home was a house in the Government Reserved Area(G.R.A) and from the interior of the house, it was obvious she was a sophisticated woman. Emerald and Doctor Manuel were met outside by her daughter Sophia. She was nice and friendly to Emerald. "Sophia, this is Emerald, Emmy, meet my daughter." Doctor Manuel introduced them both to each other. "Nice meeting you Emerald, welcome to our house, you are beautiful by the way." Sophia said enthusiastically. "Thank you. You are very pretty too." Emerald said smiling while looking down at her toes. A few weeks later Doctor Manuel called Emerald to speak to her. "Emerald, what are your plans for the future now?" Emerald sighed. "Well, I wanted to be a lawyer but my education has since stopped and there is no money for me to go to school. I wanted to write UTME and SSCE but there was no money, that was when hell began in my family." Doctor Manuel nodded. "So, what do you think about going back to school and rewriting your exams?" Emerald twisted her fingers nervously. "I would love to if I have the means ma." Doctor Manuel nodded and went into a deep thinking. "Hmmm! I will sponsor youe education and your examinations but there is this scholarship exam that you can take, it is mainly for those who wants to study Law, it will take you through university and Law school, do you think you can pass the exams?" Emerald went on her knees. "Yes ma, I can. Thank you ma, for what you have been doing for me, I will not disappoint you ma." Doctor Manuel nodded. "I will enroll you in school next week and your brother sent a letter." She gave Emerald the letter, the contents of the letter was to seek the welfare of Emerald and she in return sent him another letter explaining how her life had changed the past few weeks. After then Emerald resolved in her mind to achieve her dreams in life and make her late mother proud. *************************

They will pay my tution fees and Law school bills, everything." Doctor Manuel smiled. "Oh! Thank God. See Emerald, everything is working out, am so happy for you." Emerald smiled. "Yes aunty but if not for you, I wouldn't be here today, you were the one that gave me hope and helped to regained my purpose in life thank you for being there for me and my brother aunty." Doctor Manuel shook her head. "No, don't Emmy, both of you are my children now, I want to see you succeed in life, both of you, that is my prayer." Emerald smiled. "We will succeed, I promise and we will make you proud, we won't disappoint you." Doctor Manuel smiled. "Good girl, come let's go eat, we will celebrate when your brother visits and Sophia comes back from school." *************************

Episode 7 "Congratulations Emmy." Sophia embraced her. "Thank you Soph, I am so happy." Jofin walked in at that moment, it was one of his visit days to see his sister. "Sista mi, ki lon sele?(Sister, what is happening.)" Emerald smiled and hugged him. "Jofin, you are here. I got the scholarship." She said to him while he looked stunned by the news. "You are not messing with me right?" He asked her. She laughed. "No, of course it's true." He lifted her off her feet while he whirled her around. "Yes, God am so happy. Congratulations, I am proud of you." Emerald smiled. "Thanks. Oh! Sophia meet my brother Jofin. Jofin, meet aunty's daughter, Sophia." Jofin extended his hand while she shook it. "Nice to meet you Jofin." Jofin smiled lazily. "Same here Sophia." She quickly withdrew her hand from his. "I will leave you both to talk." And with that Sophia ran out of the room. "Jofin! Jofin!" Emerald shook her brother lightly. He shook his head. "Yes, what did you say?" Emerald started laughing. "You were practically drooling bro, you like what you saw?" He sighed heavily. "Emmy, is she taken? Please say no. Ha! She is ethereal." He said dreamily. "I have never seen you like this but she is like a little sister to me, don't hurt her feelings o." He nodded. "I won't. Emerald was now in her second year in the university, she had good grades and her CGPAwas one of the best in the Faculty of Law. Jofin joined her in the university, Doctor Manuel had decided to sponsor him through university and medical school because he was also brilliant. Sophia was in her third year in Senior Secondary School, she was also preparing to write her final examinations. Everyone knew Emerald as an easy-going person, she was also very intelligent and one of the best three in her faculty, this was what attracted Alexis to her. He was fair in complextion, tall, he also had a white set of teeth he used every time and an irresistible charm. In the department of International Law, he was known as 'every woman's dream.' One day he decided to speak to Emerald. "Hello beautiful." He approached her smiling. Emerald looked at him and looked around. "Are you talking to me?" Emerald asked stunned. "There is no other beauty here, so yes am talking to you." Emerald shrugged. "Okay afternoon, what can I do for you?" He smiled. He sent her flowers, chocolates, gifts and he wrote poems of love, he showered her with his attention until Emerald gave in and accepted. "I know but making love now will strenghten our bond and love, we will be inseparable." Emerald sighes heavily while she thought deeply. "Alright, but before that, I have something to tell you, it's important. What about Sunday, I will visit you at home." Alexis embraced her while smiling brightly. "Okay then Angel, but we have a class now so let's go." Sunday couldn't come fast enough, Emerald went to visit Alexis in his apartment off-campus. "Am happy to see you darlinG, do come in." Alexis was smiling and throwing around his usual charm. "Alexis, before anything else please let's talk." He smiled. "Okay my angel, am all ears."

Emerald then proceeded to narrate hi story. "I worked for a family years ago, the father and his two sons pounced on me one night and raped me. Ever since then, I never gave my heart to any man except you now, I want you to know this so that there won't be secrets between us." She moved to sit beside him while he shifted from her. "What! The following day, the whole faculty had learned of Emerald's story, many people mocked her, abused her, called her cheap and dirty. Episode 9 Emerald almost lifeless body was discovered by Sophia who screamed and immediately alerted her mother. Doctor Manuel gave her first aid and rushed her to the hospital, she then called Jofin who was angry and worried at the same time. It was a big relief when Emerald woke up few days later. "Emmy, look at me. Thank God you are awake." She bursted into tears. "Aunty why? You should have let me go, the humilation is too much to bear, the rape was never my fault. I dress decently and never for once encouraged them but they raped and abused my body anyway." "Shhhhh, it's fine, what you should know is that as long as we your family loves you, nothing else matters. Remember you are the only one Jofin has left, don't ruin him by leaving him." Doctor Manuel stood up and smiled. "He is very worried, I will let him in now." Jofin came in and hissed at his sister. "Jofin, I-I.........." He snapped at her. "Don't even start making excuses for what you have done. I am so disappointed in you. I didn't know I meant nothing to you, if not you would consider I have no one but you before contemplating suicide." Emerald sighed. "I am sorry bro, am really sorry, I was devastated, I just wanted to die when I learned that Alexis told everyone, forgive me please." He sighed deeply and moved to her bed. "You are my mother, my sister, my precious, I know it's hard but life goes on, you have people that love you, that's all that matters. One day your prince will come and he won't care about what happened to you but only who you are." Emerald embraced her brother fiercely. "Thank you Jofin, you are all I have and I love you so much, but I just want the humilation to stop." He smiled. "I know big sis, just rest, get well and when you get back to school, no one will bother you again, I promise." He laid her head gently on his lap. Half-asleep Emerald asked. "Jofin, what will you do?" He smiled. "Oh! Don't worry. Myself and Alexis have an unfinished business." *************************

It was a bright Thursday morning, the department of International Law was full of students as usual, students were rushing to their various lecture halls and lecture theatres. By mid day, most law students were hanging out at the faculty's gossip centre. Alexis was no exception, he was with five(5) ladies telling them stories and throwing around his charm. "Wow! See the ladies man, you sure are enjoying yourself after putting my sister in the hospital. Alexis stood up and started laughing. "Well, well, well, if it is not Emerald's brother, the raped bitch." Shaking with fury. Jofin punched him hard in the face, by now most people had gathered to see the drama. Jofin smiled. "Come on sissy, you don't wanna lose face in front of these beauties do you? Jofin punched, kicked and beat up Alexis to the point of bleeding. "Nobody humilates my sister and go scot-free." Alexis went on his knees and pleaded. "I am sorry, I will never insult your sister again, I won't even cross her path, I promise." Jofin punched him again. "Now you can beg when your big boy has been ruined huh? Listen up everyone, my eyes and my people are on you, anyone who insult, abuse or even so much as sneer at Emerald Janda, I will make sure that that will be the last act of your life. You are all idiots, am sure when most of you become lawyers you will be corrupt and insincere why? And it is still this same Emerald you all mock that is the best in your faculty. Shame on you all." He kicked Alexis few more times and left. After this, Emerald never had issues till she graduated. Alexis, stayed clear of her and made sure he didn't upset Emerald because of Jofin. After five years at Imperial University, Emerald graduated with a first class honours in law, she then proceeded to Law School. "Hurray, a toast to the first graduate in this house, Emerald." Emerald, Jofin, Sophia and Doctor Manuel were all celebrating the successful graduation of Emerald. Jofin was then in the clinical part of his medicine and surgery degree, he still had two and a half years to finish university. "Am proud of you Emmy, thank you for not disappointing me." Episode 10 One bright morning Doctor Manuel and Emerald sat down discussing. "Aunty, I have this idea, I want to start helping abused people, give them hope and counsel them emotionally but I have no funds and am still in Law school what do you think? Doctor Manuel smiled. "That's great, I also have the same idea, the thing is we can start by using my clinic's hall for the venue and we will create some awareness, this should make most of them that are scared of rejection come out. You can also be a living witness as you can encourage them with what you have achieved so far." Emerald smiled. "Am happy thank you aunty, I will write some things out for you to go through." Doctor Manuel nodded. "No problem, we will call it 'Sanctuary Foundation' a place where they can become better without fear of rejection."

"I like it that's good." Feeling excited Emerald stood up to go. "Emmy, please sit down, I would like a word." Emerald stopped and sat back down. "Is everything all right aunty?" Doctor Manuel sighed. "All is well, I just want to talk about your life. Well after Alexis you never brought anybody home, are you not seeing anyone?" Emerald sighed heavily. "Aunty to be candid, the wound created in my heart is not yet healed, I don't want someone who will open it again, I'm bidding my time, I know the right man will come at the right time." Okay Emmy, I support you, you are blessed dearie, you can go." It wasn't long, Emerald idea bloomed and people started donating just to help the abused. ************************ "Oh! Mansoph clinic was Doctor Manuel's clinic. "Come on, our internship is here and until we are through, there is nothing you can..............." "What now?" Jerry traced Jilha's gaze to a very beautiful girl. "Wow, she is so hot." Jilha glared at him. "This one is mine Jerry, take your eyes off her." Jilha marched to where Emerald was standing. He cleared his throat. "Haem! Good morning my lady, I saw you afar off and I realized it won't be fresh not to say hi." Emerald looked at him and decided to ignore him. She decided to leave while he ran after her. "Did I do something wrong? Please talk to me." Emerald sighed. "Why don't you leave me alone, I hope you know you are late as an intern." Jilha smiled. "Well, you are right am an intern but is that why I can't talk to you?" Doctor Manuel arrived at that moment. "Emmy, you are here." Emerald smiled. "Yes aunty. I decided to visit you that's why am here." She embraced Doctor Manuel. "I missed you aunty." Doctor Manuel smiled. "You too dearie."

Doctor Manuel saw Jilha standing and looking at them. "Are you not Jilha Mason, one of the intern? You are supposed to report for duty now, what are you still waiting for?" on hearing this, he ran off. Doctor Manuel smiled. "He was practically drooling, well it's not his fault, you are ethereal." Emerald hissed. "That is his problem joor." Both Emerald and Doctor Manuel went to her office where they talked for hours. They were both happy to see each other since Emerald was in Law school, they saw less of each other unless she came for Sanctuary Foundation meetings. After that she went back to school. *************************

Episode 11 "Knock knock" Jilha knocked on Doctor Manuel's office with his heart slamming against his chest. It was a month now since he had been trying to speak to Emerald but he failed miserably each time. His friend, Jerry then advised him to speak to Doctor Manuel since it was obvious Doctor Manuel and Emerald were related. So he summoned courage and went to her office. "Come in the door is open." Jilha went in and closed the door. "Good afternoon doctor." Doctor Manuel smiled. "Yes, Jilha what can I do for you? Sit down." He sighed. "Well, I came to discuss the lady that comes here with you, the one you call Emmy." Doctor Manuel nodded. "Oh! And what about her?" Jilha sighed again. "The thing is doctor, I really like her, I am not trying to break her heart or use her, I want her very much, my heart melts whenever I see her, please help me talk to her, I am not a bad person ma'am." Doctor Manuel sighed heavily. "Emmy has some trust issues but the decision is hers. I will tell her to give you a listening ear."

He smiled and sighed. "Oh! Thank you very much ma, you won't regret it." He stood up to leave. Doctor Manuel called him back. "Doctor Jilha, if you hurt her in anyway, not only me but her brother will make your life a living hell. You can leave now." Jilha nodded and left quickly feeling excited. The next time Emerald came, Doctor Manuel persuaded her to listen to Jilha. "Come on Emmy, he is a good guy believe me, I can vouch for him, he is a very good man please Emmy." Emerald sighed. "Alright aunty, I trust you, I will speak to him." Doctor Manuel smiled. "Thank you dearie." Emerald later went to speak to Jilha. "Hello, thank you for listening to me hmmm..... I don't know your name." Emerald rolled her eyes. "It's Emerald." Jilha smiled. "Wow nice name for a beauty." Jilha said. "Emerald was getting irritated by now. "Please get to the point, I have important things to do." He smiled again. "Alright. Emerald, I really like you, ever since the first time I saw you, I knew you were for me, please give me a chance." Emerald scoffed. "Wow! The last guy that said that to me jilted me, what makes you an exception?" Jilha begged and held her hands. "Emerald I promise you, I won't do that to you, please, I am begging you, no other woman has me enthralled like you do, I won't let you down." Emerald sighed. "You really are a persistent one. Alright, I will sleep over it, we will see won't we." Jilha beamed. "Thank you so much, thanks for considering me. I will await your answer. Have a nice day." After their discussion, Emerald decided to give Jilha a chance. She told Jofin about it. "What do you think Jo? I don't want another heart break, am scared." Jofin frowned as he thought deeply. "Well aunty vouched for him already, he seems like a good person to me, I will say go for it. I will just give him a warning that's all." Emerald grunted. "No. Jo don't, I still remember what you did to Alexis." Jofin hissed. "Don't mention that bastard's name. Don't worry, I won't do anything to him." Emerald smiled. "Okay, thank you Jofin."

Episode 11 contd Sophia came in intime to see Jofin while she squealed with delight. "Jo, when did you arrive?" She ran into his outstretched arms. "I missed you so much Jofin." Jofin smiled. "And I you darling. I just had to come see you, hope no guy is harrasing my baby?" Sophia frowned. "Ha! Ha! Believe me I don't give any guy my time, I have someone I love already." Jofin smiled. "Am sorry I just feel like that sometimes, you are avery beautiful one Soph." She giggled happily. "And you are my prince charming, I love you very much." He kissed her forehead. "I love you so much it makes my heart aches." Emerald sighed heavily. "Must you two do this? Come on let's go meet aunty at the clinic. They left for Doctor Manuel's clinic, they met Jilha and Jerry at the entrance. Jilha smiled. "Oh! Emerald, good afternoon." Emerald nodded. "Afternoon Jilha." "So" Jilha began, picking his words carefully he said. "Have you thought about it?" Emerald smiled. "Yeah I did, I agree." "Yes" Jilha shouted excitedly. "You won't regret it Emerald, I promise. Thank you. Oh! This is Jerry my best friend." Jerry extended his hand while he shook it. "Nice to meet you Emerald, you have just made my friend's day." Emerald smiled shyly. "Same here. Excuse me, I have to see Doctor Manuel." Jilha smiled and nodded. Jofin smiled. "Ok Emmy, Sophia follow Emmy, I will soon join you." Sophia smiled. "Don't be long dearie." Sophia pecked his cheeks and entered the clinic. Jofin moved toward Jilha. "You, my eyes are on you, if anything happen to my sister, if you hurt her, break her heart or even make her cry for a day, I will make sure you do not live to see the next full moon." Jilha nodded. "Y-y-yes, I understand, I will never hurt her, I promise." Jilha said in fear while looking at Jofin in horror. Jofin started laughing. "I am Jofin, Emerald brother, no need to be scared, as long as you make her happy, we will be fine." Jilha forced out a smile. "I will, have a nice day." Jofin entered the clinic while he left Jerry and Jilha standing. "Whoa that boy is something else." Jerry said after a long silence. Jilha shrugged. "Yes, but he just wants to protect his sister, I don't think he is bad." Jerry nodded. "Anyway just be careful Jil, I want you back home in Skornia with me in one piece." They both laughed while they left the clinic. *****************************

Episode 12 It wasn't long before the relationship between Jilha and Emerald bloomed. Everyone in the clinic called them the perfect couple. Jilha went to visit her in school on his off days while Emerald did likewise whenever she had time to get away from School work. It was almost the end of Jilha's internship and Emerald still had few months before the end of her law school. "Hey princess, I missed you so much." Emerald frowned. "Haha, but it had only been two weeks, abeg free me joor." Jilha smiled. "Princess, it's not my fault, you know I loved you so much, I feel like we should be seeing each other everyday." Emerald sighed heavily. "Jilha dear" She twisted her hands nervously. He wmiled and answered. "Yes darling what is it?" She smiled nervously. "Isn't this the time to stop this relationship?" Emerald asked worriedly. Jilha refrained from her embrace. "What! Why Emerald, it's just a little over ten months now, have I done something wrong?" She shook her head."No, it's just that you are going back to your country soon, how will we manage long distance affair, moreover, there are more beautiful girls over there that are better than I am, and am scared you won't remember what we share and..........." Jilha glared at her. "Stop it, just stop it Emerald." Jilha said angrily. "What am I to you? Someone to pass time with? Well I am not like you who don't trust people. Yeah right, let's end this right now, I can't deal with someone who has no trust in me. It's over." Emerald held his hands. "Jilha, why are you like this? What have I said wrong? I was only voicing out my fears." He removed his hands from hers. "Don't ever call me again, whe you learn to trust then you will have a lasting relationship. It's over Emerald." He left angrily while Emerald stood rooted on the spot stunned. Emerald left for home the following week, Jilha wouldn't call her neither did he pick her calls. She was very worried and scared.

Episode 12 contd On gettinh home, Doctor Manuel decided to speak to her about about her problems with Jilha. She narrated all that happened to her amidst tears. "Aunty, is it true that I don't trust people? Am just scared he will jilt me after he leaves." Doctor Manuel sighed. "Emmy, the problem is the fact that you are holding back. Tell him everything about what happened to you, let's see if he decides you are good enough for him and if he thinks otherwise then fine, you have to move on. At least he will know where your fears come from. Emerald nodded. "Thank you aunty, I will do just that." The following day she went to see Jilha at the clinic. "Please I won't take much of your time." They moved outside to a secluded area. Jilha looked at everything but her. "Be fast, I have more important things to do." She sighed. "Thank you for seeing me. I have to tell you something." She sighed again. "l was a teenager whepn my father started giving my mother hell, the abuse was just too much, he beat her like she was his punching bag. Myself and my siblings were not left out, we were four. One day he threw us out in the heavy rain, we suffered so much. Two of my siblings died in the space of teo years, my mother followed six months after." She smiled bitterly. "After this, I took Jofin and we came to live in this city, I had to work as a maid for some foreign people from Skornia." By now she was weeping profusely. "One night I woke up to see Mr Vannak and his sons in my room, they raped me and deflowered me disgracefully, they lied to Mrs Vannak aho sent me out of her house. I lost concioiusness and Doctor Manuel treated me, that was how I came to be like a daughter to her. My second year in the university, I met Alexis who claimed he loved me, after a while he started asking to make love with him, I was so naive, I thought it will strengthen our love for each other as he had said. But luckily for me I told him about the rape incidence and what will he do? He called me dirty and told the whole faculty, I was so humilated that I attempted suicide because of that and I never let anyone in until you. So tell me if you were in my shoes, will you be eager to get hurt again?" She stood up to leave. "Thanks for everything, I wish you a safe trip back to Skornia." Jilha ran after her. "Emmy, Emmy please wait. Am so sorry, I had no idea, I shouldn't have said those words to you." Emerald smiled. "It's fine, what's done is done, goodbye Jilha." Jilha was angry at himself he had never felt so foolish in his life. "Am so stupid, what have I done? I have sent her away from me." The days that followed were unbearable for Jilha, he looked so haggard and unkempt, he wished he could turn back the hands of time and undo the mistake that took Emerald from him. ***************************** Happy weekend guyz and compliments of the season.

Episode 13 The days that followed were unbearable for Jilha, he looked haggard and unkempt. Jerry his friend was very worried and advised him. "Why are you doing this to yourself Jil? Brooding won't solve this issue, you should run after her, persuade her." Jilha sighed heavily. "Will she listen? What I said to her was horrible." Jerry moved to sit beside him. "I bet she is as miserable as you are now, go after her idiot." The day after, Jilha went to Doctor Manuel's house, he met Sophia who ushered him in. "She is inside the compound" She told him. He nodded and entered into the compound where he met Emerald. "Hey princess, good afternoon." Emerald turned to gazing at the sky. "You should leave Jilha, there is nothing more to be said." He sighed. "Wrong Emerald, there is still a lot to be said. First of all, I am sorry please forgive me, I should not have gotten angry to that extent the other day. I love you Emerald, you are everything to me, I don't care what you have passed through, what I care about is what you have achieved. The guy that lefy you is a big idiot, but it is a blessing for me coz I found you. Your past does not bother me princess, it is who you are now that does. Please give me a chance to prove my love to you. I care about you." With tears streaming from her eyes she asked. "You love me still, very much?" Jilha held her hands and said. "Princess, I love you even more now knowing that you still came out strong after all the tragedies in your life, you are a great woman and that is the kind of woman I want in my life and love too."

Emerald hugged him tight. "I love you too Jilha, I love you very much. Thank you." Jofin entered in the midst of the reunion. "God has just saved your life Doc or else you would have tasted my fist very soon." Emerald hissed. "Jofin stop that we are cool now. I will go freshen up." She left them both outside while she entered the house. As soon as Emerald left, Jofin moved near Jilha and punched him hard. "That is for making my sister cry." He then embraced him."Thank you for coming back to her, for not leaving her." Jilha winced in pain and smiled. "I should say thank you to you too, for taking care of her all these years, am in your debt." Jofin nodded. "Just love and cherish her that is all I ask for. After all the tragedies we had gone through especially her, she deserves 100% love." Jilha smiled. "And I will give it to her I promise."

Jofin nodded and went inside the house. A few hours after their reunion, They both sat down. Jilha held and cuddled her with affection, everytime he looked at her, he did so with love filled eyes. "Jilha, what will we do now? You are leaving in two weeks time." Jilha nodded. "Yes, I have sat down to think, I will still leave for Skornia but I will come back for you after you are through with Lae school." Emerald smiled. "It's good but I will miss Jofin, I don't want to leave him." Jilha pecked her. "Well, he can come to Skornia for his medical school, if he wishes to he can stay there permanently. You can both come to visit Doctor Manuel from time to time. Emerald smiled. "It's a good plan let's do it that way." After a few hours, Jilha left for the doctors quarters at Doctor Manuel's clinic. ***************************** Two weeks later, Jilha and Jerry left for Skornia with the promise that he will be back. Emerald cried and wished he wouldn't leave. After a few months, she finished Law school and she was called to bar. It was one of the happiest days in their lives. Doctor Manuel was so happy. But there was something troubling Emerald. She had not heard from Jilha for about a couple of months. She was really worried. "It's not my fault Jofi, I am really worried, the number he gave me is not going through." Jofin exhaled. "I hate to say this Emmy but I trust Jilha, he would come back for you. What I saw in his eyes were geninue love for you, no one can fake that."

Emerald nodded. "You are right. I am just stressed up for nothing." It had beensix months and Emerald had not heard from Jilha. Instead of worrying she chammeled her energy to working. Almost all of the men in Emerald's office wanted to date her but she refused anyone that came. This time, she promised herself to trust and wait for Jilha no matter what happens. *****************************

Episode 14 It was a year since Jilha left. Emerald never gave up hope that he was coming back, so one day. "Barrister Emerald, you have a visitor, her secretary called to her. "Alright let the person enter." She continued her work without raising her head up. "Please have your seat. Do you have a case for us?" He smiled. "Yeah, I'm kinda guilty for coming back late, so am hiring you to please help me reduce my fine." Emerald eyes shot up. "Oh my God, Jilha." She stood up and ran into his arms. "Jilha, I missed you so much." He whirled her around. "And I you princess. Am so sorry, things just went crazy over there that is why am late. Forgive me Emmy." She nodded and smiled. "Of course. Have you come to take me with you?" Jilha kissed her forehead. "Of course baby, I am never letting you go again. But there is something we have to do first. Carry your bag." They both went back to Doctor Manuel's house. She received them warmly. It wasn't long, Jofin and Sophia enterd. After exchange of plesantries, Jofin cleared and throat and spoke up. "I am actually glad that everyone is here, I have something I want to do." He knelt down and brought out a ring case. Everyone gasped. "Please be my witnesses. Emerald, I love you so much, I can't live without you, so I am asking

"So I am asking, will you do me the honor of being my wife?" With tears streaming down her face, she replied. "Yes, yes, I will Jilha. I love you so much." He slided the ring on her finger and embraced her. "I love you too princess." They celebrated and moved to discuss the wedding plans. Then Doctor Manuel said. "Emmy, Jofin, I think you two should go back to Arata(their village) and see your father.You should let go of the past completely by forgiving him." Jofin shouted. "No way. That mad man? I will never forgive him." He hissed angrily. "Jofin will you stop that?" Sophia rebuked him. Emerald sat by his side and held his hands." Aunty is right Jo, it's time to let go afterall, God has blessed us, please bro." He sighed heavily. "Alright, let's get this over with." Two days later, everyone including Jilha travelled to Arata village. When they got there, and they introduced themselves, people were amazed at what Emerald and her brother had accomplished. They took them to a small hut beside the village square. That is where their father was now staying. The once wealthy and well built man was gone replaced by a thin, frail man. He bursted into tears and started asking for forgiveness. "Papa, we have forgiven you, even though mother, Jokai and Edama's death still pained us, we forgive you." Jofin also added. "All your fortunes is gone now, see what the witch you left us for turned you into." They blessed him, embraced him and they left. They branched at the grave sites of Mabeline, Jokai and Edama before they left for Vast city. The day was a day to remember for them all. *****************************

Final Episode A few days later, a letter was sent to Emerald that her father was dead. She and Jofin mourned him even though he was their worst parent. Since they had no parents, Doctor Manuel proceeded to make plans for Jilha and Emerald's wedding. It had been agreed that they will both travel to Skornia to see Jilha's parents. Which they did, they arrived early in Skornia airport and proceeded to Jilha's home. "Jil, I noticed from the airport that some strange people have been following us, are we safe? I am scared." Jilha smiled. "Don't worry princess, you will soon do." They arrived at a house that almost looked like a castle, it was magnificient. "Jilha, what is this place? Is this your house?" Emerald asked with her mouth gaping open. He shrugged. "Sort of, welcome to Skornia blue house(The residence of the president of Skornia)." Emerald stuttered."D-d-do-don't tell me your father is the president?" Jilha smiled."Yes, he is." He replied casually. Emerald gasped and asked angrily. "No wonder we were being followed, why didn't you tell me this Jil? You could have told me you are the president son." Jilha sighed. "Emmy, I wanted to surprise you, that's why I never told you. Moreover, other ladies will want this what's wrong with this?" Emerald hissed. "Well, sorry to disappoint you but I am not other ladies, I am me, Emerald. Am leaving, take me back." Jilha quickly ran after her. "I am sorry, please forgive me, believe me Emmy, I didn't want you worried that's why please don't go back I beg you. Emerald nodded and exhaled. "Alright, so now am nervous, will your parents like me? I am not the usual........." Jilha smiled and put a finger to her lips. "Shush, my princess, they will love you, come on let's go in, mother is dying to meet you. They both entered the house whare she was warmly received by the first lady, Jilha's mother. EMERALD's organization was merged with the one sponsored by the first lady, she was able to use her law degree to fight for justice for the abused and those being abused. She also got the support of Jilha's love forever. SOPHIA was transferred to another university where she finished her course of study, got her degree and later married Jofin. JILHA worked with Jerry as a doctor(gynaecologist) in a prstigious hospital where he got famous and later became a consultant. He loved Emerald dearly and never let an hour pass by without letting her know. JOFIN finished medical school, he did his internship in Jilha's hospital and later went to work in a prestigious state hospital as a surgeon. He was so happy to see hi sister happy and glowing everyday. DOCTOR MANUEL practically retired, but she was a very happy woman because the children she took in years ago came to be a source of great blessings in her life. It was the first time in Emerald's life that she experienced total peace, love, joy and happiness. Her travails were over, she battled with them and came out strong.
