The acting Director-General, National Directorate of Employment, Mr. Olakunle Obanyan, has said that the agency alone cannot tackle Nigeria’s unemployment challenges.
According to Obanyan, the reason for this was because unemployment growth in Nigeria has become astronomical, and also for the fact that the country was currently undergoing economic crises.
The acting NDE boss who was represented by the Kwara State Coordinator of the organisation, Mr. Ademola Adeyemo, spoke on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of a three-month environmental beautification training scheme for 150 participants on Friday in Ilorin, the capital.
Obanyan said NDE would continue to evolve new schemes in its various departments to combat unemployment despite the current economic challenges in the country.
He stated that the choice and emphasis on specialised training on soft landscaping and hard landscaping was a carefully designed initiative to align the participants with the current demands of the economy and that the training will enhance self employment.
He said, “The training will also impact specialised and marketable skills on the targeted unemployed youths, better equipping them and enhancing their choice of being employed or becoming entrepreneurs.”
