Its was in the evening when i returned back from prison, i could still see his face in my imagination, the pag of pain he tried to hide from us, a pain of betrayal and hate. If someone had told me my family will be this split up, i would have cursed them. My family was indeed a definition of happy family, dad was alive then, and mom? Well her business empire was booming, she was always traveling from one state to another for business.
Trouble began the day a political candidate from the progressive union party (PUP) held a campaign close to our vicinity, dad was a die hard supporter of Action Union Party (AUP) . Samuel (my elder brother) immediately took interest in the PUP's candidate, dad was not happy with his choice but didn't pay him much attention. As time flew by, Samuel soon delve deep into the PUP's campaign tean while dad's AUP were loosing ground.
Dad will always want to force us to support AUP but Samuel proved sturbon, that we all hsve right to choose who we want to support and vote for. During the Locat Government election, dad injured Samuel mortally when he found out that Samuel voted PUP. Same thing happened during the State Election, dad embarrassed Samuel in public to the cheers of his fellow AUP's supporters. Most of these AUP members can't debate maturely without using harsh or insultive words and at times violence, they specialize in propagandas.
Mom was very sad at the turn of event, when she decided to talk to dad about it, dad beated the hell out of her. During the presidential election, dad called Samuel and showed him a gun, warning him that death awaits him if he dare vote against AUP, we were all shocked to say a word. Mom and i casted for AUP out of fear but Samuel casted for PUP and was accosted by dad and his fellow brainless political tools (they were monitoring who we thumb printed for) and was given the beating of his life.
He managed to escspe and ran home, he returned back few minutes later with dad's gun and shot at the balot box, we were all startled. He pointed the gun towards a young man and shot him direct on the head, killing him instantly, he did same to four other guys and finally found dad hiding behind a box.
Dad begged but poor Samuel's mind was made up for revenge, not even mum's pleading could stop him. He rained in bullets into dad's head and chest, few minutes later, the police arrived and hand cuffed him away. The case was take to court and he was found guilty of murder, mom tried all she could to save him but it was of no use.
A political debate was held which the PUP's candidate defeated the AUP's candidate, dad was upset and began arguing that the debate wasn't transparent. Samuel voiced his opinion that the debate was but the PUP's candidate was more prepared for the job that's why he won, dad threw Samuel a hateful look and that was when the real bone of contention began.
Samuel was sentenced to ten years imprisonment, the only brother i have was in prison and my dad also late. I cursed the person that started politics, i sat down as i cried my eyes out, dad died for what he believed was right, but when he was buried the man he died fighting fir never attended. Samuel killed for what he believed was right also, but the man he killed for never visited him in prison. Indeed politics is a destroyer, i now believe my late uncle who always reply when asked why he doesn't do politics,"I don't do politics because when politics speaks, family divids", Indeed the voice of politics did divide my family.
