saint patrick hospital...IBB way..port
harcourt....mr and mrs thompson of the
thompson construction enterprise sat in the
waiting area with their only daughter nancy
and bella their son's fiancee...nurses kept
going in and out of the theatre without
answering any of their questions...soon the red
light turned green and mr igben came out...his
face expressionless
"doctor...doctor...is my son going to be
okay..?" mr thompson asked almost swallowing
the doctor...
"please calm down madam..mr thompson ...sir
please...come with me to my office."
"okay....please ladies...excuse me.."
he followed the doctor into his office
"please have a seat" the doctor said gesturing
with his hand
"thank you...please doctor..how is my son..??"
"sir...your son is fine..he is out of danger....

"he has lost the use of his eyes..."

finished" mrs thompson yelled and cried
rolling on the floor...
mr thompson could not do anything...he just
stood there..arms akimbo...

hit to the head tha caused an orbital fracture

mr thompson stood up and left...he had heard
it all...his son was blind...his only son...he
wanted to cry but couldnt...he stood there and
watched as his wife cried and rolled on the
floor with nancy and bella struggling to carry
her up..
"please sir...this is a hospital...if you cannot
calm your wife its better you leave.." the nurse
said
mt thompson looked at her and shook his
head..
"i pray you don't encounter something bigger
than you."
with the help of nancy and bella he was able to
stop her from crying and get her into the
car...immediately they got to the house she
burst into another round of crying...her
husband was too weak to do anything...he
blamed himself partially for what happened...if
he hadnt insisted he went to abuja and
supervised the construction going on there...he
wouldnt have met the accident that caused his
sight

"son..you're going to abuja to check on the
work going on there."

"ooohhh...but why did you let me know on
time...i already made plans with bella.."

they received a call to days later that ivan was
involved in an accident... he had already
gotten to portharcourt when it happened...eye
witnesses said he was driving at a high
speed...he must have been in a hurry to see
bella...he was taking a curve unawares of a
truck loaded with barrels...they collided...onlo
okers said they doubt he'd survive...well he did
but without his sight...
his phone rang...he didnt pick it..it rang
continously but he still did not answer...he
wasnt not in the mood to talk to
anyone...seveeal texts came in...it must be well
wishers he thought...this kind of news does not
take time to spread...he picked up ths phone
to switch it off...he noticed there was a text
from the doctor...he decided to read it
"please call me sir...we need to talk.."
"what does he want.." he thought....he called
him
"hello sir thompson"
"doctor.."
"sir i need to talk to you...you didnt let me
finish what i was saying...there...
"doctor...what else do you what to say...you've
said it all..the only thing i want to hear is that
my son can see"
"that is the reason i'm calling ...there is a
possibility he will see again but..."
"(jumping from his bed)...thank God"
"(sighs...you didnt let me finish again..please
come to the office if you'll continue cutting me
off like this.."

immediately he hung up he went down and saw
his wife still crying

ptosis...enophthalmos and nerve sensation on
the forehead and cheek...most orbital fracture
heal on their own though but if after..tests...
examination and evaluation incuding
treatments and his eyes doesnt improve we'll
go for surgical repair...all i'm saying here is
that there is hope for your son.."

up...i'll run some more test on him and i'll get

help of the nurses around they were able to
hold him down and the doctor injected him..he
fell asleep almost immediately..

house looking like someone had died...although
the doctor had given them good news that ivan
might see again...what happened when ivan
woke up was a sad one...they had never seen
him in that condition before...

"woman...let us enter the house first.."
"oh...sorry my husband...enter...what will you

"this is indeed a sad moment but we can't let

of staying down lets think of a way to help him
through this period till he is fine again.."
"(sighs)...i agree with you my husband...lets
not be weighed down by this...afterall he is not
dead...so what is the way forward..?"
"for now we have to wait for the doctor to
discharge him...after that we'll assign someone
to take care of him till he is ok.."

she handles in the company cannot be handled

somebody ran into the road and swooped her
off the road…everywhere became still…they
searched the road expecting to see blood and a
dead body but the could not find any…they
soon noticed something…at the other side of
the road..someone squatted there….she stood
up and lo!!..she hand nancy beneath her…
“ooohhhh….jesus ooh…my daughter is
saved….” mrs thompson ran towards
them….everyone cheered and clapped
“my dear..thank you…thank you very
much..you saved my daughter..how do i repay
you..?” mr thompson asked
“food…give me food” the young girl said
mr thompson almost laughed…
“food..??…hmmm…ok i’ll give you that but its
not enough to repay you…wait…your parents
should be in a better position to answer
me…where are they..?”

sandra was shocked...she searched her brain
quickly for what to say so as not to give

they talked for a while before nancy ended the
call...she didnt know what was going on but
she is sure of one thing...sandra was in town
and lied about going out of town...the reason
she doesnt know but she will find out

she came back only to find ivan eating with his
hands..again..she sighed...she walked close to
him and flicked his neck like she always does...
" how many times have i told you to stop
eating noodles with your hand?"
"ooohhh...sarah..that thing is painful ooh..i
told you...some habits never dies.." he said
scratching the spot of his neck she flicked.
they got ready and left for the hospital..
"hmmm...mr ivan..i can see you're doing
well.."
"yes doc..all thanks to sarah here...she's the
best.."
"she definitely is...you're lucky to have a
fiancee like her...some would have abandoned
you but she didnt.."
ivan was confused..why did the doctor say
sarah was his fiancee...he wanted to ask but
decided against it...he would ask her when
they get to the house..
"so doctor...what's the latest news.." sandra
asked
"well...we noticed minor improvement but its
not impressive..he should be able to see a
little bit by now....its not a problem
though...the surgery should do the trick..to
that end..i've arranged everything...the surgery
will happen in a month"
